busycoupe Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 I finally decided that body work and paint was something that I did not want to do. I took my 48 coupe to Maaco. They filled a lot of problems with bondo, sanded, primed, sanded again and applied color coat and top coat. The car looks great! I took it to a local cruise night on Saturday and it got a lot of attention. I know that it is the same old car, with the same old problems, underneath it all, but I feel like I'm driving a new car! steveplym Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 Congrats on your new paint job. It just feels better driving a car with new paint. Post some pics of your car, we'd love to see the final product. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 Sounds good. Love to see it. I can imagine it did get attention. Quote
busycoupe Posted August 25, 2008 Author Report Posted August 25, 2008 I have several pictures and I do want to post them. However, I can't figure out how to do it and still keep the file size within the limit imposed by the forum attachment manager. - Any ideas? Quote
busycoupe Posted August 25, 2008 Author Report Posted August 25, 2008 I tried posting the pictures on the Kodak gallery. http://www.kodakgallery.com/Slideshow.jsp?UV=31275428590_524516069306&conn_speed=1&collid=35171209306.395787069306.1219690989268&mode=fromsite Quote
eric wissing Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 May I ask what that cost? It came out nice!! Eric Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 (edited) nice...arrest me red.. took the liberty to post a pic from your site... Edited May 20, 2017 by Plymouthy Adams Quote
busycoupe Posted August 25, 2008 Author Report Posted August 25, 2008 It cost $3200 here in Massachusetts. The car has been a Massachusetts car since new, and 60 northern winters have created alot of body rot. The previous owner had the car patched with body filler and painted about 20 years ago. This time, I again had it patched and painted. To have the car stripped to metal and repair the damage by welding in metal would have simply cost more than the car is worth. Hopefully by keeping it garaged it will look OK for a few years to come. Quote
busycoupe Posted August 25, 2008 Author Report Posted August 25, 2008 Tim, how did you create the thumbnail and attach the larger image? When I tried to upload the same image to my first posting, the attachment manager said that the largest jpeg can only be 122kb. Help! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 just clicked on the properties of your image in the kodak album..copied properties, went to forum, advanced, manage images, upload file from url..click and paste your properties..then hit submit reply..your image is already online hosted.. busycoupe Posted August 25, 2008 Author Report Posted August 25, 2008 Thanks! It sounds easy now, but a few minutes ago I was scratching my head. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 go and paste a picture of the rear of that big butt beauty...I have one of these in 1941 vintage..love the big butts...only real difference besides the front fender rolling into the doors is that you have a spare in the trunk..mine is in a hidded area behind the drivers seat...and of course the butterfly grill.. busycoupe Posted August 25, 2008 Author Report Posted August 25, 2008 OK Tim, Here is the big butt! Quote
Merle Coggins Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 A certain Queen song comes to mind. Quote
busycoupe Posted August 25, 2008 Author Report Posted August 25, 2008 Tim, I got the thumbnail, but when I try to copy the image location of the large image and post it on the forum, the forum attachment manager says that the address is an invalid file. What am I doing wrong? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 (edited) twas a bit large in your album..resize a bit...you must open the picture to get the properties for the full size photo else you get just the thumbnail. Edited May 20, 2017 by Plymouthy Adams Quote
busycoupe Posted August 25, 2008 Author Report Posted August 25, 2008 Thanks, I'll figure it out sooner or later. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 If I can do it, you can too........ I use the PhotoBucket online album......it will resize your pics when you download them from your camera. They offer a choice of several sizes. Took me a while and some experimenting but finally have it down - til something comes along to change things. Bob p.s. Your car looks fantastic. Quote
John Mulders Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 Car looks absolutely great ! is it new ? John Quote
busycoupe Posted August 27, 2008 Author Report Posted August 27, 2008 Thanks John, it feels new! I bought it in April 2007, spent last summer fixing brakes, kingpins, fluid changes, fuel pump, etc. to get it to run. I know that I probably did things out of order by having it painted before all of the mechanical work is done; but now that the car runs well enough to get to a cruise night I wanted it to look good. Now I will just have to be careful when I work on the engine bay. Quote
Frank Elder Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 Did maaco paint your car a solid red "fleet color" or is there some modern metallic in it? Both pictures of your big red butt look good! My wife and I are both curious about your profile picture, did you buy, make or computor generate the cartoon eyes from the movie " cars "? greg g Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 They did a nice job for the price paid. Quote
busycoupe Posted August 29, 2008 Author Report Posted August 29, 2008 The color is a non-metallic 1989 GM pick-up truck color. I chose it because it was a close match to color the car was painted about 20 years ago. (It is not an original mopar color, the car was originally military maroon) Maaco did not paint the door frames, inside the trunk, etc. but the new paint is a close enough match to the old paint on the interior parts. As for the eyes .. my daughter is pretty competent with Adobe Photoshop. She knew that I got a kick out of the movie "Cars", and did the photo magic on my '48. Quote
Frank Elder Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 Thank you very much for the info,it looks a lot like the dupont fleet red for big rigs I mentioned in my paint thread. Don't exactly know what is happening, but it seems like I am a thread killer. The wife and I also thank you for the eyes, am going to try to silk screen some in the near future! FRANKIE Quote
Don Jordan Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 I don't mean to be rude but I feel "big butt" is not really politically correct. - and it's not very nice. I think it might sound better to say the car is small trunk challenged. also while there are those that may disagree I'm sure science is on my side on this one - a new paint job makes the car go faster, sound better, and improves your "carma".
