    Rear springs

Might want to use neversieze in between the leafs while you have them apart.
  2. Mark the mating surfaces with a paint stick before taking it apart so it will go together correctly. I used a brake cleaner aerosol can and sprayed down the rotor and emery cloth on the copper part. Make sure the bearings are toght so the rotor doesnt drag.
  3. There needs to be a gap between the new hub and the Scarebird bracket. Caution. These brackets are left and right handed and must be put on correctly as per instructions with the correct side facing in. After the hub is all the way in the nut must be not be overly tight and backed off to the nearest cotter pin location. This 1/4 inch gap is much adeau about nothing.
  4. Remember the old TV commercial from Midas where the old timer brings his Model A into Midas for another muffler under the lifetime guarantee ? My 1993 Roadmaster still has the original exhaust system and has went thru many salted roads here in Minnesota.
  5. The shaft can be removed from the box but is is very messey and difficult. Id remove the pitman arm and remove the whole thing out the bottom. I wouldnt try removing the pitman arm without the correct puller. They come off hard. Id replace the seal too.
  6. Is it still under warranty ?
  7. I meant valve guides that seal the space where the valves go thru the block.
  8. The 12-24 thread is referred to as a 3/16 sometimes... Definitly not a 5/16.... ... The Plymouth armrests are not adjustible on a 47 plymouth.
  9. Screws are american standard #12-24 (hard to find ) I can take a picture and send it to you if I can get your e-mail address. I cant seem to post pictures on this site... The padding is black foam rubber.
  10. Dont know if its true but Ive been told a new valve and ring could be a no-no unless the rod bearings are replaced too....Might be an urban myth though. You can take a compression check with just turning the motor over and then remove the spark plug and then squirt some heavy oil into the cylinder and take another reading. If the reading is much higher then it signals bad rings. Og corse if the motor doesnt smoke Id just do the valves and valve seals.
  11. The movie " The Russians are coming " has a 1946-1948 Plymouth convertible in it.
  12. I had an Olds Toronado with radials and had a bias tire for a spare. I had a flat and put on the bias spare and wowie.. Pulled back onto the road and went right across into the other ditch. Lesson I guess is radials and bias tires dont mix. LOL
  13. Good thing you never had to use that old spare. You would have had a BIG surprise...
  14. Using the sender I got with a new tank I got out my other gauge, ran some emerycloth thru the gauge points, sprayed some brake cleaner on it, hooked it up and its working perfectly. (so far) 12 volts straight thru. Looks to be accurate. Got to make sure you have a good ground.
  15. I see on e-bay a sender unit for a 1955-1956 Plymouth and 1955s were 6 volt and 1956s were 12 volt so does voltage matter ?
  16. I switched a 47 plymouth over to 12 volts way back when I didnt know better and never changed the sender unit nor the gauge and it all worked fine. Not much on electronice so does the sender need a reducer from 12 volts or not as Kool48 was asking ?
  17. Windy Hill have any 1946-1948 Plymouths ? Last time I was there was 17 years ago.. How about French Lake ?
  18. We have a Wheaton Terrier named Cleo we got at six weeks old who is 14 now and getting pretty feeble We made up our minds to keep her until she dies. Got her on pain pills now. Thought a couple months ago she was almost gone but she has made a remarkable recovery and gets around much better with a good appitite. Will be a sad day. Must be an awfull job to work at the vets and have to do the injection while the dog is wagging his tail for you. Dammit, now I cant see the keyboard because my eyes are watering.
  19. I put new brake cylinders on front and back along with new shoes, master cyl, and hoses on my 46 Plymouth. Must have bled system a dozen times according to correct procedure and adjusted the shoes several times to get correct clearance and still very soft petal. Gave up and put disc brakes on front. and used the stock master cylinder... Bled front calipers one time and the petal is rock solid. The petal was actually hard before I even bled them. In my opinion stock drum brake systems on these Chrysler cars suck.
  20. Site keeps saying Im using too many bits even on one picture...
  21. Got the brake stuff from Scarebird and the installation was very easy. Total cost for everything which was $355 from Scarebird and the rest from NAPA came to a total of $611 including taxes. New lugs nuts included. Bleeding the calipers was a snap. Im using the stock master cyl. and they work great. Ill try to load a picture. Dale
  22. So Andydodge...What do you have for a rearend in the 1940 Dodge ? Does the rearend with disc brakes enable the use of stock rims ? Id like to change the rearend to one with discs but want to retain the stock rims...
  23. Ordered a front disc brake set for my 1946 Plymouth yesterday from Scarebird and picked up rotors, calipers, and pads at NAPA today. Be intresting to see how much better they work than drums. If you didnt already know this setup will enable the use of the stock rims.
  24. South Dakota has a seat belt law requiring them on horses larger than Shetland Ponies... LOL
  25. Keep the six volt starter. Turns over the motor much faster. I would actually keep the whole car six volt and put on a six volt one wire altinator.
