  1. The good thing about our cars is that they are simple. Anyone can work on them.
  2. your floors look in good shape really. This is what mine looked like. And it wasn't as bad as the 55 Pontiac that I'm doing now.
  3. Yes but that was before I knew better and replumbed it.
  4. This is what I did. Had the cleaner custom made. Cos $140 I believe.
  5. Looks pretty good.
  6. A little more progress.
  7. It adds up. Some make their own panels but you need either/or both the equipment and knowhow. I'm doing it with out either but I have lots of patience to make the panels figuring it out as I go. http://p15-d24.com/topic/35504-started-the-teardown-and-now-the-build-up/?tab=comments#comment-361566 This is one I'm doing literally right now. http://p15-d24.com/topic/47146-started-on-the-55-pontiac/
  8. Who's charging $700 for floor panels and is it just the 4 floor panels?
  9. I've been phoning some scrap yards in the lower 48 looking for a pair of rear drums for the pontiac. Most are running between $100 and $120. I told them Kanter sells them new for $89. What's up with that? https://www.kanter.com/productdetail.aspx?Mak=Pontiac&Ov=1&Yr=1955&Dv=1&Dpt=1100&Sb=0&Vdr=&Itm=&MDv=1&MDpt=0&MSb=0&Cat=6&Prc=35 To bad they only ship UPS or FeDex. ripoff to Alaska. each drum will fit in a $18 flat rate box as I tried with one of my old ones.
  10. I think I'll buy some the look like it will save me work and problems. I found 540 piece set with connectors and butt terminals for $55. rod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198099516935&hvpos=1o3&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6027329986580958721&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9033954&hvtargid=pla-348849352009&psc=1
  11. My 47 coupe handles great. I'm surprised at how well it rides. The only thing I changed was the brakes.
  12. Welcome NPT. It's great that you love the old ones. Does your school have an auto shop? They will fix cars for cost just to have something to work on. If your school doesn't maybe a tech school or collage nearby. Cheaper and way easier to switch to disc brakes. The transmission will do fine on the highway. You will need to find out what gear ratio your differential has. But most any of them will do 55 pretty easy.
  13. some more small patchs made and installed.
  14. they make a product called paint mask. It's liquid. Brush it on where you don't want paint and peel it off later.
  15. I have the disc brakes installed. I have no idea who writes these instruction but they read like Chinese. Must be one set of instructions for all their kits as many parts weren't used, the bearings they furnished fit right in instead of having to remove the bearings in the new rotor per instructions and the instructions are way more complicated than the actual install. I did have to grind one of the protective ears for the hose to caliper connection off as it hit the steering stop. The bolts that they furnish also would have removed the steering stop since they did not provide the correct extended bolt. But, saying all of that it fits really well, no mods other than grinding off that small ear and looks super. Hope it stops as well as it looks. Will take photos once I have both sides done.
  16. Getting there. Don't push it with the bad heat that you're having.
  17. What ever the method was I wish someone still did it. My lettering looks horrible to me. None of the sign painters, (either one), around here wish to take such a small project on.
  18. I'd give it a try without heat first. If you can't budge it fairly easy then go for the torch.
  19. Another patch in.
  20. Almond vote from me. Looks way better than it did.
  21. okay understand it now.
  22. there's no ball bearing in my relieve valve.
  23. Since I've been driving the coupe I've had weak oil pressure readings. Really weak. I even changed the oil to straight 30wt as that's all that I could find here. I bought a new oil pressure relieve valve spring from Andy B and just installed it. It's now too high. Will have to change oil again. When warm I'm getting 30lbs idle at 450-500 rpms and when driving anything over 35 mph it's at 70lbs. The photo shows the spring that I put in on the right, the one that I took out in the middle and the short one is an extra that Andy sent since he said that it could take either. the original that I took out is shorter and looks to have been streched. Still didn't do the job properly.
  24. That leather is very nice.
