  1. That judging guide is just for Plymouths. I am just talking about Chryslers.
  2. On the Facebook, Windsor group page, it shows a guy who painted his post war Chrysler engine red. He said that was the factory color. I've always thought it was silver with the Spitfire script in red. Am I wrong? Then, some who called himself an expert said all of the 41-42 Chrysler engines were red, block and head. I think it does show that color in the color brochure, but was that true on the actual engines?
  3. I have that gauge, but I don't know what number it is. I'll check tomorrow.
  4. I woodgrained my 48 DeSoto dash around 30 years ago. Back then, the woodgrain book said to paint the light base color in lacquer, and use printer inks for the graining. Those printer inks are difficult and expensive to get, and now people use better products including artist oil paints for the graining. The DeSoto dash is not all burl grain, only the middle of the dash and the bottom part of the window molding. The rest is a simple straight grain. I used a bristle brush to produce the straight grain and a wadded up piece of newspaper for the burl.
  5. Rock auto has Gabriel shocks for $17.46 each. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/plymouth,1951,cranbrook,3.6l+218cid+l6,1349917,suspension,shock+absorber,7556
  6. I messaged you a couple of times and gave you my contact info, but haven't heard back. Did you get my messages? Thanks, Marc.
  7. How do you like the OD? Can you cruise the freeway at 65 mph with comfort? How comfortable is the driver's seat. I know there is lots of head room. What about leg and belly room under the steering wheel. Is the seat adjustable?
  8. Bob,  I would like to buy this kit and put it on Youtube.  Marc Capralis  marcapra@msn.com

  9. Bob, I'm interested in buying this set. I already have a 1941 Plymouth record like the one above, but can't play the 16" record on my Califone phonograph. Did you say this record was 16 rpm, or did you mean 16"? I have two projectors and would put it on Youtube so all could benefit from it. Marc marcapra@msn.com
  10. I'm retired 8 years! Cursive writing is dead. You won't see it again in this computerized, texting age. They don't even sign their names in cursive anymore.
  11. I think you guys are wrong. I tried to get Costco to convert my filmstrips to DVD and they said they convert 8 and 16 mm film and photographs to DVD, but not filmstrips. Nobody does filmstrips except the Imperial club and they only do it if it's Imperial related. You might have to figure how to do it yourself! All of those filmstrips came with a record and booklets, charts, etc. I have filmstrips without records, and two records without filmstrips. The records are a sales records from 1935 on the new Dodge 12" 33rpm, and the 1941 Plymouth on a huge 16" one sided record 33 rpm. About the records, the reason the sound is so bad on the MTSC filmstrips on the Imperial club and MyMopar websites is because they didn't understand that the RCA 33 rpm records are not the same as modern stereo records, so they recorded them with modern turntables. I have an old Califone school phonograph with a flip stylus, 33/78. When I play the 33 rpm record with the 33 stylus, it sounds terrible. When I flip the stylus to 78, it sounds clear as a bell! Some of the MTSC filmstrip kits even came with a little envelope of steel needles like you would use on an old Victrola. The reason they gave you a package of them is because after playing one side of a record the steel needle is worn out, and you have to put in a new needle.
  12. I remember telling my students, 7th and 8th graders, that they would have to do a one page essay weekly in cursive hand writing. There was a massive rebellion and I had to relent on that. They truly can't write anymore except in slow as snails printing. Keith, does the red badge on the cowl say DeSoto made in Toronto, Canada?
  13. Were the Canadian Chrysler's the same as the USA ones? Or did they have a Plymouth chassis, like the Canadian Dodges?
  14. I didn't know what SOL stood for so I had to Google it. It's a sneaky way to cuss online "sh** outta luck". I do know what SWAK means as I saw it used in a very old Martin and Lewis movie.
  15. Keith, you probably already know this, but I was surprised to find that the Chrysler line in 1938 had no New Yorker, Saratoga, or Windsor lines. It was just Royal, Imperial, and Custom Imperial. They got the New Yorker and Saratoga in '39 and the Windsor, Highlander, and Traveler showed up in '40. I got this information from the NADA guide online. I guess you're glad you kept your powder dry and waited for this one, instead of having a ten year project on your hands with the Airflow!
  16. Great buy Keith a Chrysler with OD! What does WOT mean? And what is a fuel regulator? Is that Canadian for fuel pump, or maybe fuel filter?
  17. One detail I like about my 48 DeSoto is that the radio grille mimics the radiator grille with the chromed louvers. The 48 Chrysler does the same thing with the radio grille mimicing the radiator grille, only in plastic. The Windsor had the larger 251 cid engine and had a full-flow oil filter. Only Chrysler had the full-flow filter in 1948.
  18. I remember seeing a 6 volt battery dealer who sold MoPar battery decals to put over your modern battery. I also saw battery dealers who sold MoPar battery repros.
  19. Back in the 80s, I coresponded with a man in WI who was selling out a closed Chrysler dealership. I bought Miller tools, filmstrip kits, etc. I also bought a large metal sign advertising MoPar batteries. It was about 4 feet tall and about 20" wide. It was NOS and still in wrapping papers. I paid about $25 for it. About ten years ago, I put it on Ebay for $99 and it was bid up to over $1300! I've never seen another MoPar sign like that. The colors were brown and yellow and the battery shown was 6 volt. I don't know the year of the sign, but I would guess 1940s. I just checked Ebay and they are now selling a smaller repro version of the original sign I sold. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Great-MOPAR-Batteries-Sign-Great-Graphics-Color-and-Shine-Heavy/194047777241?hash=item2d2e2619d9:g:YpkAAOSwSzpbPWGS
  20. Yes, I thought about just making one big thread, but I hesitated. I will bet there are many who would not look at my thread anymore after it was five or six pages long and it would always say "Finally took body off of the frame" and people would say "Oh I've already read that post." And let's say I had a question on the fuel tank, no one would know I was asking about the fuel tank unless they opened up the thread and went to the last page. I know Nick is an exception to this, but I'm not as popular as Nick.
  21. James , you must have not seen my response. I took pics and described where the serial number was in a previous post, right after you asked for it. see I do have an HOA, but as long as they don't see it, I think I'm OK. The chassis goes right back in the garage after the cleaning. I didn't get any water in my face, except when I was filming my friend in the video. Now I'm going to wipe the frame down with a solvent and get ready to paint it with POR chassis black. The frame still has a lot of hardened undercoating on it, which I'm not going to attempt to remove. If it's been on there for three-quarters of a century, it will stay on for another 73 years at least.
  22. Dragged the 48 DeSoto chassis out on the driveway and pressure washed it using my new Husqvarna water pressure cleaner. Seemed to do a good job. Marc.
  23. I can't remember if the head was shaved. I wasn't under the impression that because I bored the cylinders .030 over, that I was now going to enter it in the Indianapolis 500! I was just cleaning up damage from broken rings and general wear. I did put in .030 over pistons and rings. Can't wait to get it running.
  24. I was wondering what the new cid of my 48 DeSoto engine is? Stock cid is 236.7 cid. I bored out the cylinders .030". So using the formula for the volume of a cylinder, Pi R squared times the height, times 6, I got my new cid of 240.8. I wonder if that adds any HP? The Chrysler 6 in contrast has a stock cid of 251. According to a formula I found, each cubic inch of displacement increases HP by 1.1 to 1.2 HP. So, since I increased the displacement by about 4.5 cubic inches, I figure I increased the horsepower from 109 to 113.5. Marc.
  25. Marcel, I can't find this anywhere locally, even NAPA. I guess I have to order it online? Marc.
