  1. If your father-in-law removed the capillary tube from the rear of the temp gauge then the gauge will no longer work. There is ether inside the tube and if the tube has been de-soldered from the gauge the ether is gone. You'll either have to send the gauge out for repair or find a used replacement somewhere. Although there is someone on the site who has repaired their temp gauge. Search the archives and you should find the info. Good luck! Brad
  2. The elbow appears to be the original one as supplied with the heater kits. My 51 B3B had the same thing in it. I managed to salvage mine and reused it on the new motor. Brad
  3. There is a guy that lives across the lake from us that makes various lenses. He learned to make the molds and his little business took off from there. He sells them at various swap meets that he goes to. Brad
  4. Jipjobxx, What brand and model is your little camping trailer? When I was a kid (40+ years ago) we had a Go-Lite trailer that looked very similar to yours. Thanks! Brad
  5. Merle, Do what I did, I called around to different Napa stores around the country until I found one that had it in stock. I'll bet there is a Napa store out there somewhere that has them. Good luck! Brad
  6. The old adage "you get what you pay for" really rings true when it comes to buying rubber products. If you want to have to replace the rubber in a few years buy the cheaper stuff. Just my $0.02 Brad
  7. Eric, thanks for the info. As far as the tool goes I actually bought it off of eBay because the seller advertised it as fitting the 48-53 trucks. Much to my chagrin it didn't fit. So I contact him and offered to send a bezel from one of my spare switches in exchange for making one that would work as advertised. He accepted and is in the process of making a correct tool now. With shipping I paid something like $19 total. Considering it only works on one of the bezels that might be a bit high but then again a scratch on the newly painted dash would cost more than that to fix! I'm going to see if he can make a tool for the other cable/switch bezels. Brad
  8. Would anyone know if the ignition switch used on the 48 to 53 trucks is the same as say the 40-46 trucks? I've got someone making a tool for removing and installing the bezel on the ignition switch and he would like to know what other years/models/switches/etc that it would work on. Thanks, Brad
  9. Zeke, thanks for posting the pictures. Looks like I can give up looking for a 610-T radio as it would never work in the opening that I have. Now I kinda wish I had told the body man to repair the dash with no radio opening. Oh well I do have a 51 or so radio from a dodge car that I think fits the opening just fine. Brad
  10. Paul, Your cover plate looks just like the one I have (without the opening of course!) which makes me believe my cover plate will work. Its been 9+ years since mine was painted (yeah I still haven't finished the truck) and my memory isn't quite what it used to be! Brad
  11. Reg, Here is a picture (one of the few) that I have showing my original radio installation. It had a big power amp that was bolted to the firewall behind the radio and of course the speaker behind the speaker grill. Earlier I had talked to Paul about my radio delete plate and not thinking that it covered the opening but the more I think about it I think it does. Unfortunately that delete plate is in a box loaded on a trailer waiting to make the trip from Arkansas to Kentucky. It will be months before I can get my hands on it. I'll have to see if I can track down the guy I traded it to and see if he still has it. Good info in this thread! Brad
  12. Reg, Keep in mind if you someday hope to install a real 610-T radio in your dash then the 51-53 car radios won't work. Here is what the 610-T looks like: (which I'm sure you're well aware of!) And this is what Paul's dash looks like (which just happens to be what my dash looks like as well). I have a hunch the dealers used car radios more often than they used the 610-T radio. Mine had a radio in it that looks like the one you gave Paul. I gave it away and now wish I had kept it. Brad
  13. Automation programmer developing the plant controls for a new Chemical Weapons Disposal Facility in Richmond Kentucky. Been doing this same work for 20 years with a total of 30 in Industrial control. Brad
  14. I've got a radio delete plate just like that without the ash tray slot. I was planning on using it for its intended purpose but I noticed the other day that it probably won't completely cover the radio opening. Anyone else notice this problem before? Brad
  15. Don, I'm not sure I would agree with this statement. There is a good possibility the fuel flow is not sufficient to keep the engine running at full speed. My wife's race car has done this same thing when she reaches the upper RPM range (8,000). In her case it was related to carburetor float levels being incorrect (blame me I'm her chief mechanic ). In Grey Beard's case it could be fuel filter, partially plugged fuel line, weak fuel pump, etc. As someone mentioned earlier the condenser could be suspect. I'm not overly thrilled with the quality of the aftermarket condensers. Something cheap and easy to replace to see if it helps.Brad
  16. Interesting approach, looking forward to seeing the end results! So how did the factory put the paint on the hub caps?
  17. I don't think the 48 hood will work properly on a 52 model truck. The nose shape is slightly different, the latches I think are different as are the prop rods that hold the hood open. I could be wrong and hopefully someone with more knowledge on the subject will chime in. Brad
  18. Thanks for all the replies and info. I certainly don't plan on using a governor. I hate the thought of throwing them away but I have SO much junk stashed away as it is that I don't really know what else to do with them. I couldn't find any on eBay so I'm assuming there either isn't a market for them or no one ever buys them. Brad
  19. Mike, I'm leaning towards them being just cheap aftermarket lights as well. The lenses were cheap plastic that has melted and looks horrible. I thin the lights are destined for the the trash bin since they really don't look all that great. Brad
  20. Brendan, I searched for VW backup lights on google and they aren't quite the same. The lights I have have brows on them. There are no markings at all on these lights. Brad
  21. Wow! After reading all these replies I probably shouldn't tell anyone that the screw on my lock came out with no effort at all . I'm fairly certain it was the original lock and sure didn't look like it had ever been removed. Guess I got lucky. But then again the whole truck was pretty much rust free so that might have had something to do with it. The truck spent its whole life in the Hailey, Ketchum and Sun Valley area of Idaho. Its my understanding they don't salt the roads in the winter and from what the truck looked like when I bought it I believe it. Brad
  22. These lights came in a box with a project car we bought a while back. I've never seen anything like them. Don't know if they are aftermarket, modern, old, foreign or domestic. Any clues as to make and model would be appreciated. http://www.141.com/dodge/12072008.jpg http://www.141.com/dodge/12072008(001).jpg http://www.141.com/dodge/12072008(002).jpg Brad
  23. No not the political type . During the past couple of years I've purchased a couple of different carburetors and they came with governors. The question I have are these things usable for anything now? Is there any market for them? One of them is a Hoof Governor No: Dodge 3/4T, range 50 mph model S301. Any thoughts or suggestions what to do with them?! Brad
  24. Interesting, the number 1396 727 does not show up in the 48-53 pilot house parts book. The number sequence falls in to the range used by the pilot house trucks but for some reason its not in the book. Just one more mystery involving these trucks! Brad
  25. Dave, I might have a set of 6 volt lights to trade for your 12 volt lights. Brad
