  1. Oil soup, only for medicinal purposes, like "wrenching frustration" .
  2. So then the air filter needs to be tight and the hose / tube connection from the block tight as well?
  3. Interesting: the bottom of the engine requires air, PULLED IN at the fill tube and forced out or PULLED OUT by the draft tube. So then if routed out to the carb, that air flow DRAWS OUT the fumes and uses them as fuel, as little as they might be. Is that a fair statement?
  4. Well, I'll tip a bitters in your absence!
  5. Is the name DE SOTO or. DESOTO? Hate to see you go to all that work and get it wrong. I don't know which is correct but I think it is DESOTO! I also think the letter spacing on F ARGO is incorrect.
  6. Barstow does not need to be the destination. I'm just suggesting a repeatable annual location for a southern calif get together. Possibly a '50s MOPAR event already exists. If so I would like to know of it. But a p15d24 event would be special
  7. They cut the large logs into 12' units then split them to smaller sizes, pulled them to a water trough that floated them down to the Sanger Ca valley sawmill. Amazing check google.
  8. If my memory serves me correct, the dragon in "Puff the Magic Dragon" was a Mary Jane cigarette. Flower Child tune.
  9. Who may be interested in a Barstow Route 66 Museum outing possibly this fall?
  10. I've got to do Route 66, probably when I drive the truck to Indy and give it to our daughter. A jaunt to Barstow, Ca to the 66 museum would be a fun group outing.
  11. Bob, stay with us, we like Cudas. I hope others agree.
  12. I must go. Reminds me of branding, etc., high school days.
  13. Conversation number 1. Perchance I found the truck sitting in a rural yard by the road. The lady told me her sister had purchased it from an Indian lady who had driven it to California from Arizona. Her sister died four years ago, the truck had been parked there for 17 years and she wished someone would remove it. When I asked how much she would sell it for she apologetically replied, $200.00. The grill was missing and the head was in the bed. I gave her $200.00 and went home and returned with a trailer. I had zero mechanical knowledge so it sat for another three years and then out of curiosity I started to fix things. I figured I could remove an item clean and fix it and replace it.. Then I found Greybeard (since deceased) he talked me through the engine rebuild and I found this forum and my hobby began.
  14. Phoenix's fire story is well known and Phoenix has Risen From the Ashes, now a new thread. Possibly the biggest enjoyment I get driving this truck. Is the responses I get from admirers. The exterior, the engine, and a DODGE are the top three conversations. The attached pic is a quick pictorial record of the past. The bulk of this thread will be interesting places and conversations. Tuning in is purely optional! In three weeks the journey will officially begin with a record of the drive to and from the BBQ.
  15. I love all the hobbies. Re the 42 penny, I think only a very few copper ones were made, very few. The silver ones were to save copper fro War efforts!
  16. I just ordered my P15d24 sticker, and drove my mountain climb test , so I'm a lift saftey check away from ready, see you on Friday.
  17. To this day, I remember driving a friend's '51 Plymouth and was AMAZED at the ease of steering and with fewer revolutions of the steering wheel, we had a '52 Ford Victoria. For that reason alone, I like the stock MOPAR front suspension. The engine, well EVERY ONE who sees the six, say, to the effect, "WOW, you kept the old engine!" Like others, i have changed to front disc brakes, 12 volt wiring and alternator, 3:73 rear axle, but have an original patina exterior. My vehicle is a B3B.
  18. The view on my way home today. Once the heat returns, the smog from the bay flows into this valley which is surrounded on three sides by mountains, thus the air is trapped and the view of the mountains is gone.
  19. My first trophy melted in my shop fire, this is my 2nd one. That is Chloe our granddaughter.
  20. Well it's mine now. What to do? Yard art, BBQ, add engine and ballon tires for an old mans dune buggy, give it to Tim and Steph! !!!!
  21. Question: Are the doors and windows water tight? Might be worth buying just to store that mountain water watered marijuana!! LOL
  22. This year I'm test driving Phoenix weeks before the Q. Today a nice mostly uphill drive up into the foothills, the main pull was about 8 miles, a good climb. Truck did not stumble.
  23. Jeff, do these help?
  24. Well, the guy GAVE it to me, so the price is right. At least it would make for interesting yard art. So. . . Possibly a Shriners parade car! So. . . What if I extend and reinforce the frame, put Porsche engine in it, large flapper tires on the rear, good bucket seats, a roll bar, and head for Pismo Dunes? Not much texting there!!!!
  25. Isn't that still acceptable fare in MO. LOL
