  1. And lots of company as we all circle the drain....
  2. Very cool pics...Thanks for taking the time to take them, and post them up. Any chance you have any more pics of that 46-48 Desoto? It was in the black suit and tie section....
  3. Powder coating will heat and discolor. You would need a good high temp jet coating. But personally I'd scuff them up and hit them with some flat plack BBQ paint. I've done this a few times and the results were better then expected. Or go with the Eastwoods high temp manifold paint. As for air cleaners...I like the look of dual oil bath air cleaners. But I'd swap them over to the paper elemnts for better filtration.
  4. To me it reads as though he pulled the original motor and tranny, and swapped in a 318/auto?
  5. Conrgats on a very cool Desoto. I have a 48 Desoto 2dr Sedan I'm bringing back from the dead. Nice that the chassis and drive train are all done...Huge chunk of time, and expense saving for you. I will enjoy following along.
  6. Very cool...what transmissionis it going on, or is it a stand alone unit? I'm interested in this as well.
  7. Thanks for the great advice there guys...I'm doing a set f rims for my wagon and was thinking about doing something similar to check for trueness..
  8. I've seen/heard of car listed like this as well...could be what's happening? This is a really good idea.
  9. Glad things worked out with the new well...hope it stays as nice as it seems. I grew up on a 150 foot well, pump sat at 125. We had a lot of heavy minerals in the water. But we had the water tested many times and it was great water. Our neighbours on either side of us used to run dry on hot, long summers...we would run a hose over to supply them with water off our well. We never once ran dry...cold and clear..always!!
  10. When I had the front end off Fernando to re/re the motor and tranny it had the ones on the left holding the rear part of the inner fenders to the body.
  11. That looks very slick...well done!! And the fact that it's easily removable is even better. Did you take lots of pics as you built them...would like to see how things went together.
  12. I don't plan on changing the exterior any time soon. Want to get it licensed for the road first before anything like that is even considered....if it's considered at all...
  13. Did you make it removable? Looks cool.
  14. Very cool car...er wagon. I like your ideas so far. Will enjoy following along as you progress.
  15. That wagon has been in Hotrod mag a while back...super cool car none the less. I would rather have a car that looks "good" then a super nice show car. I've been there with the big dollar paint on cars...and I was always concerned about chips, scratches etc. Personaly it's not worth it to me...rather have a car I can get in and go, who cares if it hasn't been washed, waxed or dusted off in the last 2 months...it's getting out and enjoying the cars that make it all worth while for me.
  16. Well I recieved a used Vintage air system from a fellow on one of the other forums I'm on. He had it in a polara and it just wasn't doing a good job. It's a few years old, has some issues...broken plastic, missing mounting areas etc...but I plan on converting it to manual cable controls and standard motor wiring. Pretty happy about it since he basicly gave it to me. So I'll be ditching the factory dual heaters in the Desoto and going with just this one little unit. Should work well.
  17. Very nice to get the old cars out for a night on the town...Congrats!!
  18. Well those statements about sum up my feelings towards this car.
  19. Thank you too for that last pic. I could not figure out where to attach that spring after I swapped in the manual 3 speed in my 48 Desoto. I have that piece but couldn't figure out where it went exactly.
  20. Don't think there is much of a weight difference between a 318 V8 and the original flat head 6. Those flat heads are friggin boat anchors!!
  21. I've been using RTV high temp silicon for years on exhaust manifolds, head pipes , and any other engine gaskets that I need. The biggest thing I've found is you need to let it set up. I used it to reseal the old water pump off the original 251 from my Desoto. Then installed it on my 218 and again more silicon between the block and pump. Also used it between the bare metal surfaces on the intake and exhaust manifolds, and block, as well. Not a single leak anywhere.
  22. Take it your car is still a 6V system? If so then the solenoid you pictured should work fine.
  23. Hey Welcome! You have your self a good woman there if she's willing to drive an old Plymouth as her daily driver!! I've been trying to convince my wife to do this for years...just not enough creature comforts for her liking though...
  24. Thanks guys for the kind words. But as of today the car is in storage. I got it all back together yesterday, and gave Fernando it's first "good" bath in probably 20+ years. I'd pressure washed it quickly a couple times but never with proper car wash, pail and mit.
  25. Just fired my motor for the first time. I did the electronic slant six/flathead dizzy hybrid conversion. Seems to work very well.
