  1. All right...finally got 2% smarter then that darn glass fuel bowl on the fuel pump. I first pulled the fuel pump off, and apart. What an absolulety brilliant design in simplicity. The check valves within the pump can not be affect by fuel types since they are pieces of fiber board? type material, with light springs on top. The only thing in the system that could fail is the diaphram. I also rotated the top assenbly of the pump so it would give me more room to put my in-line fuel filter before the pump. I also then had to bend up another new fuel line from the pump, to carb. So first off to try and beat the leak I tried cutting my own gaskets, from some regular gasket material I had. Cut a couple and tried them together...still leaked. Then I did some searching over on the P15-D24 site and found some gasket numbers....troied my local shop and they could only get me one filter kit, which the fitler didn't work in my gklass bowl...BUT it did come with two different size rubber gaskets. I first tried the larger of the two, since it seemed to fit best within the fuel pump housing, and against the glass bowl. Installed it and it leaked worse then ever. So then I was looking at the smaller of the two...but it just didn't seem like it would sit right by itself. SO I decided to sandwich it between the two gaskets I cut myself. Installed the glass bowl, primed the system and fired it up....NO MORE LEAKS!!!
  2. You need to start digging through old HotRod magazines, and other publications from the early days of drag racing. Here you will find all kinds of inginuity and motor combos....from 2, 3 and 4 motors linked. I read Hotrod and Hotrod Deluxe...and they cover a lot of these old dragsters. I really don't think you'd have any problem with the rear motor blowing up. Guys used to hook old nailheads in series, with blowers and such. Heck one article I read a guy had two motors, one running a blower, the other running nitro....little unbalanced I'd think. I would want a coupler that perhaps had a failsafe built in...Keyways, or pins that could shear? As for starters...don't think a single starter would be able to turn over both motors. You'd need to have two starters I think, so this would mean you'd have to run a manual transmission pressure plate on the front motor to have a ring gear for the teeth to engage.
  3. That's good advice on photo coping the reciept. The original reciept will usually fade long before the 3 years is up.
  4. Those "G" clips also are for 46-48 Desoto cowl trim. I'd be interested in a spare one or two.
  5. Well having to raise them 3/16 or 5/16 is very little really. Either option...the VW ones, or the ones from the chevy would be doable.
  6. I love the before and after pics...Think your car is going to look sweet!! I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to swapping motors and trannies...like to keep the drive train brand loyal...but that's just me. But as others have said I'd prefer to see a Ford FE motor in a mopar, then just another belly button SBC. I too had a 2dr M-body years ago...started a 440 swap into that car...too young, lots of time, little bit of skill, and no money....car ended up at the wrecker. But have lusted over those 2dr cars for years. Good luck with your project...keep us updated...and I'll be following along with your build.
  7. You gotta love coming across interchanges like this.
  8. Well today I swapped around my cars...Wagon going into storage...Fernando coming home to be worked on this winter. Was all excited that this year I could actually start, and then drive the car up on the trailer. Put a battery in it, hooked up the gas can, primmed the carb...AND...nothing. Car would run on the gas dumped down the carb, but it seemed like the fuel pump is not priming. Carb is also leaking badly across the mainshaft. So I removed the line from the gas can, blew down the fuel line and primed the fuel pump, and filter. Tried it again and still nothing. Drained my battery repeatedly trying to start the car. The car ran fine this spring when I moved it into storage. Same fuel pump, fuel was treated with stabilizer. This fuel pump is of unknown age and condition...but like I said it was working fine earlier this year when I first fired the car. Guess I'll pull it and see what's going on. I dug through the archives and have seen a few posts on fuel pumps coming loose from the diaphragm, or pin on the arm coming loose.
  9. What year of Jeep for that tank?
  10. Looks good...for a first casting. Looks to be a fair size though....how big is it?
  11. Yes there are some obvious differences between the different body styles, but other then those most of the parts are interchangeable.
  12. Keep your eyes on E-bay. The interior parts show up from time to time. But also depends on the condition your looking for...usanle, nice driver, or show quality? 46-48 Desoto use the same parts. So that helps broaden your search. I would put a "wanted" ad in the classified section.
  13. Thanks agian for the comments and experiences guys...appreciate it. Here's what my tank looked like when I pulled it out of Fernando... Had about 8lbs of sand, rust and debris in the bottom too. Never seen a tank that bad before.
  14. I plan on using an aftermarket unit. But modifications are no problem.
  15. Thank you for the confirmation. That is what I thought, but wanted to be sure.
  16. I've been searching through the archives, and could not find a definite answer. Will the 46-48 Plymouth/Dodge metal tanks from Tanks Inc work in my 48 Desoto? I came across one post where a forum member put one in his D24...these D24 are the same basic size as the Chrysler's and Desotos...right? So that should mean I could use this tank in my 48 Desoto? Just wanted to get the opinions of the experts before I drop $250 on a new tank.
  17. Now that is a great idea! Money and cost be damned...it's the memories that matter.
  18. I have moved vehicles with Uship.com. Post up your move, and then the shippers, and carriers, contact you and bid for your buisness. I've been very happy with the carriers I went with.
  19. This is a huge pet peeve of mine as well. I used upper and lower rad hoses from a 71 440 to make the aluminum rad in Fernando work with it's new flat 6.
  20. My 48 Desoto has "patina" as well. I plan much the same as you.
  21. Good analogy...like it!!
  22. I think most of us are that way. Don't want to toss it, someone could probably use it, and not in it to get rich. I have box's and box's of misc stuff too. I really need to get off my duff and catalog and post up this stuff.
  23. Your welcome. I too had a hard time with the board set-up when I first arrived. Took some time to figure things out. I too like the oldest first, and scroll down to the newest.
  24. You need to go to the "User CP" on the left upper banner area. Then scroll down to "Edit Options" and click on this. Then scroll down to the third area it should say "Thread Display options" Then half way down this area you will see "Thread display mode"...click on the small drop down menu and select the "Linear-Oldest first". Now your done!....
  25. Thank you Roger. Very cool car. And love the right hand drive!! If you ever have a chance to snap more pics of that car I would appreciate seeing them.
