  1. Congrats on the job. I'm sure it takes a lot of worries away. I don't envy the moving part, but a change of scenery can't hurt. Do you get to take the old car with you? Sometimes moving them is more than some folks want to deal with or can afford.
  2. One of the nice things about this forum. We can talk about Studebakers, Vasectomies and Star Trek and no-one gets PO'ed. Those who don't want to get into it, and that's fine, get the OT warning and just skip it. I doubt many do, though.
  3. Rodney, ya gotta drive 'em like ya stole 'em!!!! Don, I'm not worried unless you get sent to Great Falls...too close for comfort!!!
  4. Rodney, by the title, I thought you let Don drive the Stude!!!!! You have too many beautiful cars, Rodney. Maybe you should let the elderly of Canada (me) enjoy one for a few yrs!!
  5. Awesome job, Rodney!!!!!
  6. Not something that you would likely see as a fire truck!!!!
  7. It's a 3 ton cab and chassis with no master cylinder. Push start in the city isn't really a viable option...I sure would try it in the country with brakes.
  8. Well, after replacing plugs, wires, cap, rotor, all the frayed and bare wires, new 0 battery cables, new battery, battery box, draining the oil and gas and replacing with new, pouring a bit of oil down the plug holes about 10 times over about 6 weeks, yesterday was D-Day. It turns over, but very slowly...didnt even give a hint of firing. Hit it with 12 volts, no difference, very slow turning over. The choke works OK, I've been hitting the cable at both ends and the carb linkages as well, primed it carefully, no change. Not sure what I was expecting but a sputter would have been nice...no such luck. That was my line in the sand on her for this year. I'll have another look in the spring. I've hauled the starter off and will take it apart over the winter. My nephew has expressed alot of interest in the truck...he is a long distance trucker and a pretty good wrencher. I've been seriously thinking of giving it too him, he has a Dodge Cummins he thinks would be "cool" in it. Lot's of work there, but he's still under 30. Still left with 60 year old steering and brakes and a 50 mph rear end. I'm not gonna have it done for years so it's a viable option. One project is turning out to be too many:( It would be disappointing to pass it along but I'll get over it. Then I just have the Chrysler. Decisions Decisions
  9. WELCOME!!!!! You need a toy car to shake things up here
  10. 2 for me and 8 to give away...10 Greg, I don't think you would be sitting on em too long
  11. Good Luck!!!!!
  12. You have to unbolt the u-joint from the trans, it's not a slipjoint like newer cars. If the driveshaft is still attached, that's why it won't come out.
  13. My doors on my 49 2 door are sagged at the back b pillar so they bang on the latch. The hinges on a 4 door are the same and unlikely to be sagged, so I will switch hinges before the adjustment starts. Maybe I'll get lucky and not have to do any adjustment. Could it be your door hinges have sagged as well? Those doors are heavy on the 2 doors. Possibly 4 door hinges may solve your problem, too.
  14. Fred, this might help...I think the methods apply to your car, too. http://www.imperialclub.com/Repair/Lit/Master/025/cover.htm
  15. Before During: After: Been stalled here for too long, still may remove the body from the frame to finish it right...might not, too.
  16. I took my new kingpins and old spindle to a local machine shop where they installed the bushings and reamed them to fit the new kingpin. $35 bucks.
  17. Welcome to the best forum on the 'net. We have our genial host Gerald to thank for this place.
  18. Looks good, Tim. Don'tcha love it when a plan comes together?
  19. Brightside yacht paint is made for harsh environs as well and is very smooth and shiney. Not sure if it's available in semi-gloss or not. Picklex 20 is great for neutralizing rust...and it can be painted over.
  20. My condolences on your loss. Glad there was a smile in the discovery of that pic. Those fat fenders were great for posing for pictures.
  21. When I went to the local Ma and Pa parts store for dist. cap and rotor for my Fargo truck 251, he asked for the number from the dist and from that he got me the cap and rotor the next day. He could also get points and condenser next day but mine are good. No need to go hunting if you have access to a good partsman. These engines are great and I just love the sound of them...cant beat it with a SBC
  22. As a former buyer and seller, the nickel and diming piddly little fees for this that and the other stupid thing just turned me right off of eBay. I got along fine for many years before eBay and I get along fine now without it again.
  23. James, glad things are going your way on that trans finally. You're going to the world expert on these things...maybe write a book and get famous!!!!
  24. Ugly and noisy in a car, but might be neat as door/kick panels in a truck.
