  1. I've considered using aluminum diamond plate in a one ton pick up, I'm trying to decide how thick it should be to keep it from sagging between the cross members with weight on it . Anyone have experience or suggestions on what thickness would be stiff enough? The black finish sounds good as I'm not looking for a mirror finish.
  2. There are several versions of this. I know of a Mcdonalds version and my local post office has a postal version on display but not for sale, i think I've seen others but don't remember what they were.
  3. Good post Fernando, I followed some links off these pages and found some great rockabilly and pin-ups.
  4. I wouldn't mind seeing the Pilothouse forum extended to include trucks through the Power Giant era. The sweptliners already have two good forums going. Just an idea, not trying to stir things up or offend anyone.
  5. Fernando, do you know the story behind this? For what countries military and for what reason was this done? Frank
  6. What do you know about those wheels? Are they drop center? Looks like way different offset than originals. What are the off of? Are they maybe the Stockton Power Wagon wheels?
  7. 57 to first series 65.
  8. You might try Mike's Carburetor Parts, he has a web site. You can also check out his You-Tube stuff.
  9. What do you guys think of silicon gasket maker? I've never been a fan of it because of the removal the next time you take things apart and I like to cut my own gaskets using the proper materials. I'm changing my opinion on this in some cases. I had a ford truck that I sold with 260,000 miles that never leaked a drop, it was sealed with mostly silicon as are probably all modern engines. Is there a place for silicon in the flathead world?
  10. Hank's is probably the best one out there, has links to many collections.
  11. Good post. That is a real reminder of how much more complicated things are today than in the past. Replace that timing chain out in the driveway? No thanks.
  12. Linkage installed properly and not binding?
  13. I've had to do that same menuver with a one ton, got to be harder with that ton and a half truck. Pain in the rear to do but so satisfiying to get your prize home. C series are great looking trucks and that one looks pretty straight and solid. Have fun with your new toy.
  14. Anyone know the name of the color green paint on that 56? When I was a kid my dad had a 56 panel this color and I've been trying to find what color it is. I've seen trucks painted Ponchartrain Green but they look slightly brighter than this, maybe their paint mix was off a little. I don't think it's Bell System Green or is it?
  15. Is the 275 without doors and glass?
  16. If you are looking to identify AMC V8 engine size look on the left side of the block. I have 304 and 360 in jeeps and both have the c.i. cast in the block, don't know if all AMC V8's were identified this way but probably many were.
  17. Do you guys think engines in fluid drive cars are slower revving because of the extra weight of the fluid coupling and fluid? Frank
  18. Looks like there could be a couple extra pieces of steel on your frame, just ahead of the rear axle on the upper horizontal surface of the frame, one on each side. Could it be a shortened frame? On the carburetor I think the BXV-3 was used with the standard transmission and BXVD-3 on fluid drives. D designates dashpot used with fluid drive. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on the carbs, it will help me know what I'm looking at when scrounging swap meets or other places.
  19. No matter what the collection of parts, thats a good looking truck.
  20. In the last picture the the paint on the cab looks slightly different than the fenders, hood and bed so most likely a cab replacement. I think we mentioned before that carb is off a fluid drive truck. Most but not all one ton pickups have the nine foot bed. Could it be a half ton on one ton axles? Does the frame look heavy enough to be a one ton. Like said in another reply the best way to start to figure it out is the numbers on the frame.
  21. They also have a B4 cabover, some Studebakers, IH and tractors.
  22. Ten plus a spare or two, you gotta save your pennies for a while to buy a set of tires for that truck. Nice truck Fernando.
  23. Carb looks like a Stromberg BXVD-3 so it could be fluid drive.
  24. Thanks all for your replies. Frank
