  1. I was telling my neighbor about my 15 year old Diehard battery and now two days later it's dead. It was in three different vehicles, still holding charge just fine, the positive terminal separated from the case. Case was dated 12-95. Every time I looked under the hood I couldn't believe this thing was still working. Don't know what I'll get this time. Diehards are getting some bad reviews now, must have cheapened them or moved manufacturing off shore. This vehicle doesn't justify the cost of Optima. What do you guys think of Walmart batteries? Frank
  2. Fernando, is lard a rust remover? Never heard of anyone using it for that purpose. How well does it work?
  3. Optima charging instructions on their website.
  4. I also run Optima in Jeeps. They did have some quality issues when production moved to Mexico several years ago but seem to be past them now. They stood behind their product with free replacements. The Optima can sit unused longer than conventional batteries without discharging and doesn't leak so less corrosion on terminals.
  5. If you use this trick steel casters would be a better choice for wheels as those soft air filled tires will not be easy rollers.
  6. Rock Auto. $1.25 each in a 10 pack.
  7. Must be a surplus of Seafoam in the country, parts stores in my area seem to really be pushing it lately with displays and sale pricing. I don't think Seafoam does much of anything. I pulled a carboned up head off a parts engine and poured Seafoam in one of the combustion chambers and let it sit for a week, the results were Seafoam did nothing at all, no change. Maybe it needs the heat of combustion for it to work.
  8. I just got an Airtex 587 at Autozone for 48.99. I think the two Airtex numbers are the same pump, just clocked different. My opinion is the Carter is a better pump if you can find one.
  9. Ford also had a 4 on the tree in early to mid sixties vans. I used to drive a work truck that had this set-up, this trans really shifted smoothly once you got used to the pattern.
  10. Is that a vacume advance on the distributor? Could this be a Chrysler engine instead of a truck engine?
  11. I did no know Oregon DMV would search history of a vehicle, what information would this include? Names and addresses of previous owners? How far back would they go? Thanks for this info. Frank
  12. Does anyone here own one of the battery charger / desulfators for lead acid batteries? Has anyone tried to desulfate a battery? Did it work or what was your experience? I've got a couple batteries that might be good candidates to try this on if it's worth spending the money for a desulfator. Thanks for your replies. Frank
  13. Last fall a guy in north Portland had an engine for sale with the number DSP 30908, he said it came out of a 47 Ply I believe (that might not mean anything). Maybe the DSP could be a rebuild from a shop in the area? I've been curious about the DSP code too, hope someone can identify it.
  14. Interesting video, wonder how many survive. People who owned them post war may not have known their trucks were assembled in an apple orchard. How many of those men became mechanics after the war.
  15. That coyote's really a crazy clown, when will he learn he never can mow him down. No roadrunner theme song. One of my favorites along with Yosimite Sam and Foghorn Leghorn. Glad they are back.
  16. Nice video of a preservation. Distributor location could just for ease of maintenance. Always easier to get to in the front.
  17. You might try taking it to an exhaust system shop and have them expand the tube or buy a tubing expander at harbor freight.
  18. The Hagens guys had a spot at the Portland swapmeet, really nice guys and they do have some parts and rebuilding services for old Mopars like cylinder sleeving.
  19. I have a listing of distributors used from 40 to 46, in those distributors centrifigal advance starts at 370 rpm with one degree of advance and by 400 rpm its three degrees. Vacume advance starts around 5 1/2 inches of vacume. Your 49 distributor may be different but probably not much.
  20. Steele does not make all their products themselves. I ordered a seal for the rear window of my 64 D300, they told me it was coming from another source and it was on backorder forever so I gave up and ordered one from Restoration Specialties, nice piece.
  21. Man that is lightning fast. Wearing that holster where he does I'd be afraid of a malfunction and having my love life come to an embarrassing end.
  22. I've moved three B1D pick ups using a 3/4 ton van and U-Haul car trailers, worked great but the van was pretty stiffly sprung. I would think a softly sprung 1/2 ton loaded with a family and gear would be pushing it. Thats a long tow. Maybe with an equalizing hitch.
  23. I'm shopping timing chains for pre-54 230. I'm finding Clevite and Sealed Power brand chains. Anyone have experience with these chains and which is the better quality chain? Thanks for your replies. Frank
  24. Great seeing these old photos. I especially like dadsdream, Makes you wonder what it was like for a kid to drive these when they were new, plus the 126 pick ups are my favorite. Imagine trying to teach a kid to double clutch today. Awesome some of these trucks are still in the same families.
  25. DollyDodge, what was the price of the rebuild kit from Then and Now? I would like to try this, have done many different carbs but never a fuel pump. Frank
