  2. Here in middle Georgia...the blank stare is not at all uncommon...I even went to the local tire dealer that does the truck and farm implement tire service..AIN'T NEVER HERD' NUTTIN LIKE DAT...
  3. I cannot find the link I thought I had for a retailer of these but suggest you look for these under vintage Chevy as the ovals were very prevelent on their rims...they sure worked the magic on a set of rims I was helping with.
  4. This is a common problem compunded by the tire shop who mounts your tires if you pay to have work done. Their interest is in the waiting customer and to get to them you must be moved out of the work area..fast mount balance and out the door you go...it is not that they do a bad job, they just don't do a through job. They have no idea that the moisture that invades a tube tire over the years really affects the sealing bead area of your rim. Nor do they have the time to treat your rim for this contion due to the WAITING CUSTOMER. To correct this will be to dismount the tire..wire brush and acid etc, prime and paint the area...sandblasting is better but not all have access to that. If you find a lot of small pits after prime and paint, you can wipe a very thin bead of RTV on the sealing lip just prior to inflation..this will smooth out the illregualrities. go easy on the sealant..just enough to fill the tiny voids and not run to the inside of the tire...

I can say this..I had one out of the car...loosened the clamp and was just going to slide it off..lets just say it didn't..I did not want to damage anything as the sector was to be shipped out of town..so let the entire unit go in one price...It has to come apart as i have seen the exposed shaft..just how involved..not sure..maybe mine was a bit STUCK...
  9. In the ad it states...12 volts....so would assume you got a true rod and custom device there...

The inner shaft of the steering column is integral with the worm gear..answer..all or none..there have been reports of this getting cut and rewelded..not a recommend fix..even with a good weld, the horn wire hole often suffers some closure...removal of the steering wheel, access panel in floor make removal of the sector a rather bit of a pain for sure.
  11. We lost zinc chromate sprays in cans back in the late 80's as it is a carsogin. We did get a couple of prducts out there thate are know as Zinc Pure and Zinc Rich or something like that..it is not like the old stuff for sure.   12. Well it took till late evening but the 13th runs true here. First I lost a tree to a lightening strike some time back..finially was able to get the backhoe here from the farm down the road and snatch that sucker out of the ground..and loaded onto my car trailer. As I need to use my car trailer next week I had to unload the trunk/root. Got to the landfill and guess what...now even the residents are to pay for anything over 500 pounds, get serious here folks that is just barely covering the bottom of a pick up truck..anyway...went further to say I could make as many trips as I want a day just not to exceed 500 pounds at which time I countered with why our local government is forcing the taxpayer to spend more time and money on the road when we already have an energy crisis? Anyway..no charge today and I will be talking to the commissioner..Government in Action..as Don Coatney sent to me last week.."THEY WALK AMOUNG US"......I know they are trying to crack down on Mom an Pop lawn care business disposing of waste and trash cleaning up from evictions etc...I get there maybe once every two months and 500 is not worth a trip to the dump..looks like illegal dumping will increase, widlfires from burns and illegal burns, smoke pollution etc etc.

I installed my first latch from a 1991 Dodge Dynasty, use both the electric solenoid and the loop to lock onto..loop will need modified..HOWEVER I decided that should I have a electric battery failure, battery is in the trunk I will need an override...and I also don't have door handles anymore so getting into the trunck from inside the car would not be a good place to fit an emergency cable. So I opted for the combination of the the 91 Dynasty as it's lock cylinder matches my ignition cylinder, used the remote cable key actuator and motor driven latch from a LH platform car, 1993 model, and covered the key cylinder with the spring loaded cylinder..I kinda like it..the loop will need be made...You can modify a small exhaust clamp for this..very clean looking with the polished cover in place. This also allowed me to get rid of the license plate bracket. Send e-mail by PM will send pics.

  16. I think Greg made reference to the timing at the distributor if you were curving this distributor on a machine and not on the engine itself. Yes total advance is set by the average man as indicated on the crank and what you see is what you get. (indicated by the light) Mechanical advance is necessary for that WOT take off..and vacuum advance will come in when the engine has obtained the speed you are running...this is what gives you the economy in driving. Lot of vacuum advance mechanisms are adjustable with an allen wrench to set total max advance to prevent pinging...this is indicated by what is called "light throttle ping" and is most noticible if you were crusing along and start up a slight incline and under the added load your engine pings..
  17. We can get you a good deal on Forida beach property right here in South Georgia..it is just a matter of time before the Florida panhandle slips into the gulf...less money out your pocket..however you must have patience...

One thing for sure, you do post some nice pictures of diamonds in the rough as you travel about...amazing sometimes what is in your neighborhood...this area I am in is pretty much been scoured over and been sold down river..but the occassional car/truck does pop out of the woodwork..pickings are slim and the state of repair you find them a bit on the "other side" of solid.
  19. Norm..Norm..Norm... where is your sense of adventure? One of my memories of childhood was traveling down the creekbed in the old 49 Plymouth to visit friends and relatives..the creek was almost solid bedrock..though they have since cut a new road in around the mountain a short distance from the creek, the thrill is gone..and there was a footpath that followed the curve of the creek and mountain years before that everyone used to walk..it was about 1964 beofre phone made it to the area...and yes growing up there was the BEST OF TIMES..simple, clean and flat out an adventure every day as a child fishing, hunting, swimming and sledding in winter.

Sorry Norm..be with the Don C. here...I have not removed tires for I can't remember how long just to fix for an ocassional nail..the two wives pretty much keep me busy with these...Most of the times it is on the driveway repair but will admit the last was done on the side of the road, quick insert, 12 compressor and away you go. Last arepair was a long way from home, up a hollow where the creekbed was the road...not much of a place for tire removal.
  21. I have aways liked 3M seam sealer...you can get this in a caulk tube also. Another product out there is by the folks of POR15 and is a tube that you place in the crack..comes with all the hype and glory of their other products...so you do have a chioce...to use the 3M product I would only feel confortable using it after cleaning, acid etching..priming then seal and seal the sealer with a good laquer based primer.

In rolling a piece of metal back and forth, you will find that the rocking of the roller will be very annoying..of course..like you say it is hobby based and even I would probably have to dust it more than use it...I have a number of harbor freight items and based on the fact that it will not see everyday use has prompted me to buy from them based on dollar spent for return useage. Just thought that 1/8 slop at the roller a bit much.

  24. I understand where you coming from on that..having sent a few items that way....wish my big butt coupe had reveal molding about the rear glass but I am not sure if this model had rear reveal.
