  1. Here is a link to a laer model Dodge truck site with some alternative IFS conversions. http://www.dodgeclassictrucks.com/AlternativeIFS.html
  2. Welcome to the forum. Good luck with your project. I posted a link the yeaterday regarding fabing motor mounts. You might want to take a look. With the 318 swap you will have an interfearence problem with the exhaust manifold and the steering box. The most common fiz seems to be to offset the engine an inch and a half or so to the pass side. The link uses plates and tubing to make motor mounts which would make this realively easy. There are also some up and over manifolds from Early 70's A bodies with 318's that can work also. If your gonna swap the tranny, having the chebby rear is good cause the original trans has the e brake on it, it will go away if you swap to a T flite. Of course the T flite will have a Park prawl, but ya probably still want the e brakes. Again welcome.
  3. Check that place in S Dakota or Montana. I think it Freeman's auto parts. mailto:fremansauto@bigplanet.com
  4. make sure you use the dimmer of the 12v single element bulbs. Don't think you want to stick a stop/signal lamp in ther too bright and too hot. think the part number is 6411 not the 1157 for the signal stop application. T 84 might work (liscence plate)
  5. The manual says to connect the meter from the BAT (or A) terminal to ground. Run the engine till the VR is at operating temp. Connect a variable resistance between the Battery terminals, and with the engine running at RPM aproximating 30 mph road speed (1500/1700 rpm) after the charging has droped from its peak it should provide 7.2 to 7.5 volts
  6. Norm, I would refer the folks back to the Private Property and pursuit of happiness provisions of a well know document. And further to the restrictions. codicils and covenents in their own property deeds. My deed states I may not have more than a two car garage, may not use my domicile for commercial purposes, and a few other items of restriction that probably a lot of folks are in violation of those as well as published local ordinaces without knowing it. It might be well to ask them why an unlicensed vehicle is worse then the 4 or 5 registered ones that seem to be in everybody's drive way these days. Having more than two vehicles regularly parked as a residence might be a violation. I look around at my neighbor hood and others and See Dad's Car, Dad's hunting truck, and three cars for the kids that are still at home or just moved back. All for having a nice neighborhood and keeping up property values but these zealots need to get a life, more than just doing thier Kilroy impression as insinuating their noses into other's business.
  7. Arvin was a big after market supplier of vehicle accesories. And they are still in business as the Arvin-Meritor group. Probably best known for exhaust stuff these days but still into other stuff. http://www.arvinmeritor.com/home/default.asp
  8. Do a search for F 1/f100 Ford suspension. Some where on the web there is a how to about grafting on a Volare/Aspen front cradle. Tis set up has transverse trosion bars, R and P pwr steering, discs brakes and is a weld on. Also if you can find one look for (wait for it) an AMC pacer. Apparently these were bolt on complete assemblies including all steering, braking, and suspension components integrated on a pretty stout crossmember. Search 50 Chevy Pickup for a how too with this system. Probably not many Pacers left in wreckers yards, and since these were bolt on deals, most are likely gone but it si worth a shot. So basically you get a Mustang 11 type set up built for a heavier car in a bolt on or weld on application. Just mark the hub center lint on the frame, drop you current stuff, and bolt on the modern one. Sounds too easy. The whole tech thing was just posted on the HAMB board whichis searchable search "pacer" And I posted the link on the former version of this board. Here is the Pacer link; http://www.chevytrucks.org/tech/ifs.htm also Jaguar xj 6 has been suggested by several as easy but not cheap.
  9. JUst for kicks, go to Ebay Vintage Parts and search heater. Probably several will pop up. Remember heaters and defrosters were optional and a lot of trucks sold in the south or southwest likely were not sold with them. If I remember correctly ATLAS was a Sears and Roebucks house brand. Mongomery Ward sold them as Riverside, there were Arvins, Southwinds, Western Auto, Tropic Aire, and others. Here is a Tropic Aire unit that is hang on unit probably designed for the passenger foot well. Think this was a Ford house brand. Some had defroster outlets, some didn't. I have a Model 36 like on the bottom of Reg's post,in my car. It had defroster diverter and ducts. However since these models recirculate the air in the vehicle, the defrosting part is mostly a mythe. Here is a Epay search link; http://motors.search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&catref=C6&fcl=3&frpp=50&from=R10&fccl=1&mppfqy=heater&mppfqy=heater&satitle=heater+&sacat=10073%26catref%3DC6&fmmk=&fmmd=&fylo=&fyhi=&mppfqy=heater+ford&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=ZIP%2FPostal&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=2%26fsoo%3D2&coaction=compare&copagenum=1&coentrypage=search&fgtp=

It doesn't traslate to picking up foreign languages, but give me a couple hours on Cape Cod, and yud think ah lived they foevah. Or up in Maine and yew wood nevah knowed Ah was from away. 21. Depends on the state where it was originally titled. A lot ot states wnet by the calander year i which a new vehicle was first delivered from the dealers lot. So you truck could have been a 53 model released say in October or November of 1952 and sent to a dealer as a 53 model. However if it was sold and titled in November or December of 1952 as a NEW vehicle it may have been titled as a 52. Also some states used engine numbers as ID numbers for titling and registration purposes. Could be your engine is a late 52 production put in an early 53 truck. This could be prevelent at Model change over dates that used to happen in Sept or October. I remember snooping around the back lots and peekin in the shop windows at about the same time school started in the fall trying to find out what the NEW cars would look like before anybody else knew. So what is the engine number on your truck. It is stamped into a flat spot cast into the block above the generator, just below the head. Is this the number that shows on your title???
  22. Sharp looking interitor. The rubber ion the runing board/sill liiks to be in good shape also. Looks like it has been a lightly used and fairly wel cared for. Good find. enjoy your car and this site. Now about that studebaker truck you mentioned..... Whee ae you in Indiana, and could you perhaps get some information regarding it. I have been searching for a 49-56 Studebaker 1/2 ton Pick up for quite a while, and would appreciate it if next trip you might have a look and snap a couple of pictures. I have sent you a Personal message.
  23. I need to have a piece of substantial metal engraved or etched with a fairly lengthly inscription. I would like it to be done on brass or stainless steel for installation on a cemetary grave marker. Can anybody help out or point me int he right direction. Might be aluminum also. I remember a thread a while back on the other board about some custom made door step plates. Could also be made cast out or duraple plastic. Or stamped like a liscense plate or dog tag.
  24. Could be your clutch is not completely disengaging. Try lengthinig the rod to the throw out fork. Mine would shorten itself throug vibration and after a while would cause a similar symptom. So adjusting the clutch rod to make it longer cured the problem. A little mechanics wire now leeps the adjustment from changing till I want to adjust it.
  25. Frank, what I remember from being in central PA. (worked at PSU for 2 yrars) was the folks from the central mountains had a problem with mixing tenses. Heard a lotta, batter needs mixed, wheel needs greased, bacon needs frried, cows need milked, door needs hung, oil needs changed, baby needs changed. Still see that in some of the adds on ebay, car needs restored, motor needs ovehauled, brakes need bled. bumpers need chromed. Buh uhn needs sewed. And right about now supper needs eaten.
