  1. I know enough to get in trouble. So can you tell us about the different types of sysems out there and give us a primer on their worings? For insance I know that HEI does not stand for High Engery Ignition but rather for Hall Effect Induction which i guess uses magnets but what the magnets do is a mystery. I believe that Crane comapny made a distributor with a optical trigger using a light and mirrors (unlike Lucas who used smoke and mirrors) And then ther is Pertronix which I beleive is another type of HEI. And other than having to stop messing around with changin, adjusting and cleaning points, what other advantages if any do they bring to our vehicles? Might be others out there under the name of Mallory and a few others, so can you quick like in shadetree language splain the difference. Thanks
  2. Click on my name in blue inthe upper left corner of this reply box. A pull down menu will appear with the send PM private message. Just follow the prompts. Like sending an internal email. G
  3. I have a 218 here in central NY. Running when pulled, had noise (piston slap or broken pistons or maybe just in serious need of a valve adjustment) Crank turned, new mains, main seals, new rod bearings, oil pump rebuilt, about 5000 miles ago. 35 lbs oil pressure idling at op temp. 10 minutes of I 90. If interested PM me.
  4. That answer is too salacious, and patently fabricated. Be forwarned a representative from Benzel, Treadhole, & Newchrome, Attorneys at Law will be in touch. Until then your are directed to Cease and Desist from further slanderous replies via this conduit. By the way the White reflector tags these (if they are indeed a pair) from 1946 production.
  5. Another this on a corvair. http://www.rickwrench.com/50dollarpaint.html
  6. Wonder why Pete's fine pics don;t come out on my puter when all others seem to be working fine??? An I contacted Phillips via email about 6 times to inquire regarding headers. So far I am 0 fer 6.
  7. Also make sure there isn't a kink in the cable under the dashboard. You can also loosen the cable, wire it up so gravity will work and try the PB blaster again letting it run down the inner wire into the spiral gaurd. I have to do this from time to time on my yard tractor. It always frosts me when after about a month of being just fine, I jump on to start it and the Choke cable resists all effor to move it by the pull knob.
  8. Externally except for electrics for tranny applications the carbs are likley interchangable. Wonder if your lean condition with the 1940 carb is internal jetting. Block sizes aside, the mounting on the manifold would be the same and the carbs could interchange from one manifold to another but internally they might be jetted differently if the 40 engine is a 218 and the later is a 230 or larger. You might want to give George Ashe a call as he seems to know all about MOPAR carburation though I know he has a fondness for Carters over those srombergs. 814 354 2621.
  9. Well a treadhole is what you have left when you pull a nail or screw out of the knobby portion of a tyre. An untreated tread hole will allow the tyre to become atmospherically neautral. Could also be what you have after removing fasteners from a stair case. Benzel is the little known older brother of Denzel Washington of TV and Screen fame. Benzel happened to be out when Denzel answered a casting call and the caller easily misunderstood the name and mistakenly scheduled Denzel. The rest as they say is history. And I believe in Whatley on Themes, England there is a Pub known as Benzel and Treadhole. The Baltimore yellow pages lists Benzel and Treadhole Bail Bonds, and Skiptracing.
  10. Couple items to check. Make sure the wires are properly seated into the cap. Also check the wire from the lug for the coil wire to the points. this can become frayed and ground out as the advance plate moves. As stated before there are a couple different distributers and caps. and they need to match along with the rotor or the rotor won't align with the lugs in the cap. Simply there are early short bodied distributor with a tall cap and a tall bodied dist with a short cap, So if looking across the bosy of the dist you can see the points, it should have a tall cap. and visa versa if you can not see the points over the body. As you can see in the pic the rotors are at the same level, but the caps need to match the dist for the rotor to align.
  11. Does this /6 conversion requires a switch to 12 V ??
  12. The carb vacuum reading is not what your are looking for. You need to tap into the intake manifold to get a proper indicative reading.
  13. A gallon for a fender????? shouldn't take more than a pint I would think and with some of this stuff running in the +200 dollar range why would they need all that paint????
  14. I have used weiners for bait to good effect on several fishing trips. Work good on Catfish.........
  15. Check your in box. G
  16. Ya might wanna stay MOPAR and go for 3/4 of a 318 and use the 3.9 V6. and use the 4spd auto with OD and TC lockup. with a 3.55 or 3.23 rear that should give you good scoot and good economy to boot.
  17. RE torquing is pretty much SOP whenever the head is off, you might want to check it again after a couple more heat cycles. Also give a check to your manifold bolts and carb to manifold also. Not too tight cause they are supposed to move around some with the heating and cooling. The torque on the manifolds is supposed to be 15 to 18 or so. If you can't get a torque wrench on em just go snug and then 1/2 to 3/4 more turn. Your temp and Oil pressure look good. Remember too loose is better than too tight on the valves. Besides a little valve noise will tell you its running. These things are so quite sometimes its hard to tell........
  18. Here is a Stant Number for a P15 engine, I believe they are similar; Oil Breather Cap 10061 Or 10064 (listed for International Harvester Truck ongine) If not take yer old one to NAPA
  19. The internals are likely the same. If I am correct the dizzys were interchangable between the engines with the exception that the long blocks used a longer drive shaft from the oil pump. So the innards should afix to the breaker plate all the same. The other option is to get on from Langdon's which uses a GM dizzy with MOPAR drive and mount attached. Go to the members list and look up Blueskie's site. He has a bunch of pics regarding using the Langdons in his 230 (218 block) engine. Also you might PM Dwight Petcol as he has been using a Pertornix for a couple of years in his Dodge.
  20. Yep! Located on Wall Street. A dead end off of Richmond Ave., also accesable off Park Ave. One the west side near Sacred Heart Basilica. http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?address=%5b1%2d199%5d%20Wall%20St&city=Syracuse&state=NY&zipcode=13204&country=US&location=s4on8W%2bpgZoaZNr5rNdrzsz5U59N%2f3WiHFvUhiE1me9DvDJ55m%2fioS7JsuOaedomsA%2fbfTfMdsI3g78Gbacf%2bILgwe1lnOuzPXU2PpxJ%2f8Wjpo%2fEiLeDm%2fVcZdN5dGhzwCNFb38MlFufK5UHEN%2f3bg%3d%3d&ambiguity=1
  21. Here is one posted a few days back on this board; http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=369&highlight=brake+tool
  22. Ian, I put a 48 or 72 hour time limit on the poll. It was posted on the 8th, so while it is still in the cue of messages, the poll itself is likely closed for new responses.
  23. I got one looks very similar. Mine was self inflicted. I bent the crap out if pulling the car out of the barn it was in with a logging chain. Some whacking with a BFH got it a bit straighter. I don't think the bar mount will have much of an effect on handling. Pulling the frame straight might, but if you did not have any unusual tire wear it probably wasn't a factor in handling either.
  24. normal vacuum at idle with a single carb should be 18 to 20 inches steady. Where ae you conecting your vacuum gauge?? Should be on the intake manifold, vacuum port for the windshield wipers is the easiest and probably most accurate source.
