  1. The school bus I rode in to elementary school had gravity sanders on it. There was a bin on each side located under the seats mounted over the wheel arches. I assume that there was some sort of coble operating system near the drivers position. Can't remember if the diver ever used them or not as our route wasn't very hilly. I do remember seeing them on other trucks and busses in the 50's. The road we lived on was plowed regularly and only sanded/salted on hills, turns and at intersections. The town used sand with a very sparse salt content. So most of the road was hard pack snow most of the winter.
  2. We still have a local fellow who does plating. I had 2 tail lamp bezels, and my stop light bezel done three years ago for about 225 bucks. The lamp pieces were moderatly pitted. I did not order his show quality plating. He also did a bumper and 2 bumper gaurds done for 300. My small parts were there about a month, and went with some stuff that was sent over by my friend who owns a restoration shop and sends a lot of business his way. Perhaps if you send me a few pics of your pieces he might take a look and give you a guesstimate. If it looks good you could send your parts, ( Shop is located in Sryacuse, NY) up and I would drop them off. He seems to work a little cheaper if a case of Miller long necks show up with the parts, that is a logistical thing that can be worked out if necessary.
  3. I have enjoyed the colligiality of this forum for about 4 years now. some of the highlights for me have been the OFF TOPIC posts. I realize that many forums have a strict policy regarding OT posts, and moderators policing the posts and moving them hastily. This was not the case on the old format. I know it chews band width and may be a problem for the strict motor heads, but I miss the enertainment portion of the program, and have to remind myself to go looking for it. Wonder if we can have automotive, technical, mechanical stuff on the main board, and carpentry, appliances, health and beauty tips, in the OT section
  4. Up for auction on EPAY, Like it says check out the headlamps. the link; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1952-Willys-Aerolark-2D_W0QQitemZ170045702247QQihZ007QQcategoryZ6470QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  5. Well this is pretty neat. Doubt it has a hydromatic tranny though. Looks like a pretty fast auxiliary go kart come along with it. LInk to auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1946-Chrysler-Town-Car_W0QQitemZ190047600212QQihZ009QQcategoryZ6181QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  6. Bob I think what you posted is the downstream unburned hydrocarbon sensor. I believe this is the O2 sensor or maybe the part of the mass air flow or manifold absolute pressure deal. but I'm quite sure the item in you picture is most effective when used behind the car......
  7. I think the story was that the car was sitting under a tree in sombody's backyard when a huge limb squashed the middle. Guess it better'n throwing it away.
  8. Removing the dog house if fairly easy, I believe there are 13 or 15 bolts per side involved, 4 0r 5 Rear of fenders to cowl, 4 or 5 inner fender to frame, and 4 I think on each side near the bottom of the radiator. Make sure you tag all you wires as you remove them. Remove the hood leaving the hinge hardware and the cross hood support on the car (some cars do not have a cross hood brace) Also if your stainless rocker trim is there, there is a bolt going through the bottom of the fender at the cowl joint. It is a two/three man lift or you can use a sling on you engine hoist if you have one. Perhaps some has phote documentation of the process. What tests have you done to asess the condition of the engine?? Is it siezed? If it will turn over did you do a compression test? Most of these engines will start and run in pretty poor condition.
  9. Got up close and personal with the car 3 years ago at the Rhienbeck Spring Show. Caused quite a stir. I don't think the Fusion claim is quite correct, Looked more like John Deere and Briggs and Stratton to me. But the buggy did have what looked like a 57 chevy instrument pod and a cup holder. My sister in law lives out side of Kingston, NY. His store studio is located near Hunter Mountain Ski Area. Happened by it on the way to visit once, the fellow is very clever and obvioulsy talented with a torch, welder, grinder and paint gun.

  11. Not necessarily weird. Plymouth models for export and those made overseas (out of US) were plymouth bodies with Desoto trim and grills. These were sold as DeSoto in the Middle east, South America, Turkey and other areas. Follow the link for some information on the Export Desoto http://www.allpar.com/world/1950s.html
  12. You makin yer own squeezens??? Usta dable in some home made stuff, grapes for one, and hard cider for another. Seems like we didn't need lables. Drive In Red is cool. How about Notel Motel Rose", and Shot Gun Weddin white???? For a complete suite on the theme.
  13. Can you post some pictures??
  14. Very nice!!!! I think the first time I looked at the truck side of GTK's sites, you had just brought the cab home from the paint shop. Congratulations.
  15. You have a pic posted on your profile so you know the procedure. If the pic is on a server, click on the little picture icon on the tool bar. place the cursor over it and it says insert image. Click on it and copy the picture's url and paste it in the box. When copying the url leave off the http;// as it is already in the drop down. The url can be had by right clicking on the opend image you want to post, or if you recognize the correct option on the server which will open the pic from thumbnail size. If the pic is on your computer use the manage attachments option to browse you files and find the pic. Either way the pic should show up. If you are not sure you have it, preview your post to make sure it is there and the one you want, before completing the post.
  16. That coupe is beginning to look better n better........
  17. That is slicker than whale snot. But in all my 50 + years, I have never figured out how to use a dial indicator. I have had it explained several times but it kinda like splainin the Infield Fly Rule. I know it exists, and I know it works but makes no sense.
  18. Color sanding is a wet sanding process used after the top coat is put on. It is usually done in stages using very fine sand paper usually finishing with 3200 or 3600 grit paper and lots of water. It is the process by which any airborn contaminents, booth dust, are removed, and the surface is leveled again. It is followed by coumpound buffing to bring back the shine.
  19. To each his own I guess. http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2351443650037142585ssbguf
  20. I agree, with at least a friendly Hello, here is what I got here is what I'd like to find. If you've ever been over on the HAMB you get the snot knocked outaya if you don't do the manditory introduction post. there seem t be several self appointed into police there that act like you had personnaly pi$$ed in thier Wheaties if you don't follow the rulz. Certainly don't have a problem helping somebody out, but be damned if somebody wants to pick up something for peanuts and then resell it. Besides we have noted before the fotuitious coincidence where a parts rewuest on these forums leads to the pieces magically appearing on EPAY. On the other hand there does seem to be a lot of new faces popping up on the new forums, and we don't wanna be such big a$$es that we scare em off with our cliquiness. But it always pays to be cautious but open to new neighbors, after all, they may have something we may need.
  21. There were a couple fenders on ebay, both rears and one front. That was Friday late, might not be there still. However I do a "194* Plymouth" search in vintage parts. This brings up all parts listed in the 40's. by the way I believe 41 and 42 rears will fit as well. they have the full half circle wheel arch cut out but the body shape is the same. http://motors.search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&catref=C6&from=R10&fcl=3&satitle=194*++Plymouth&sacat=10073%26catref%3DC6&bs=Search&fmmk=&fmmd=&fylo=&fyhi=&mppfqy=194*++Plymouth&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=2%26fsoo%3D2&fgtp=

    E-Brake

You might be able to keep the armour and replace the cable from Hardware stock. Just cut to lenght and have the hardware swedge on some of those compression cable stop thingies.
  23. Works for me!!
  24. Hope you didn't trade the old one in!!!! In the US the new model is called the "Caliber" is it the same name in the Netherlands??? Are you the fellow that road rallyes in the old one? Hope you have good luck with the new one, is it an R/T (all wheel drive)? I work at a Dodge Dealership and they have sold about 12 Calibers, they seem to be back in for repairs a little too regularly to suit me. Could be nit picky stuff related to new models.
  25. Whatsa matter???? just screw it into the manifold port for the windshield wipers, and hook it up to the radio, then you can set your idle by listening to WHOX, 020 on yer AM dial. Set the Speaker to Classic...........
