  1. No, Fred...not ignoring it, but don't have time to work on the car until the weekend. I definately will try out the leverage thing this Saturday and see if I can get these boogers on once and for all.
  2. Wow....sorry I have been away for a few days. Yes, looking at those pics really makes me appreciate that we here in California are spared such cold. Thanks for posting the pics, Rockwood. BTW...I did get the correct switch, finally, and now I have three speeds of blowing heat.
  3. Are talking about when you install the already used springs?
  4. Dezeldoc, you must be one strong guy because Mando and I both tried pulling the spring up, as well as down without any luck. The new springs have a lot of tension.
  5. Close, but mine is longer because it has an extension at the end of it. It also has two connectors instead of four. Also, it's only a push-pull with three positions (off-on 1-on 2), which controls the fan speed.
  6. J.C Whitney doesn't have it either.
  7. Ha ha. So where do you get those pliers and do you pull from the bottom up or from the top down?
  8. I was just going to look them up. I'll see if they have it. Thanks!
  9. Have been to Auto Zone, Pep Boys, Car Quest and even Napa, and neither one had a replacement push-pull, three-way heater fan switch that looked like the long universal, extended switch I have on there now. Though the switch still works, only high speed can be used since the low speed has seem to have gone out. Not looking for an original because I am 12 volt now. Anyone know where I can find the correct switch that will fit my P15?
  10. Been searching all over on here and haven't found a thread on it, yet. So what is the trick to getting the hood springs on? Any suggestions? I did try inserting nickles in between each coil, but they don't fit (that was a trick I was told on here a few years back by someone).
  11. More like a godsend, if anything. Now we don't have to pay over $100 to have them made.
  12. Wow...well cut my legs off and call me shorty! Actually, Don, I didn't know where the car resided. I just did a google search for "Cars In The Boondocks" and it was one of the ones that came up. Go figure.
  13. Hey, you are right...you have the freedom to say what we want, but one must chose what he or says carefully or it can offend others, of course. I saw when you said, "not my cup of tea," which was clearly your opinion of your dislike for lowriders, and I didn't include that in what I quoted. No, your comment wasn't directed to just one individual, but Mondo happens to be into lowriders and it apparently rubbed him the wrong way and found it offensive, just like it would have rubbed us the wrong way had someone posted something making fun of people who own Plymouths. That's all I'm saying. God knows I have stated my opinion of what I think of old man hot rods (rodded out Chevy's and Ford coupes, as well as rat rods and chops), and I have gotten slack for it as well, oh well. Like you said, our opinions are our opinions, but some opinions are better left unposted publically. I have no more italics but I do raise you all quotes.
  14. Not sure if this has been posted already of not, but there is a gentleman up in Oregon that has reproduced new P15 hood springs to match the original ones. He currently has two sets up for bid on Ebay, but also will sell them direct for $45 per set, plus shipping and handling. Here's the Ebay auction. Contact him from there. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1946-1947-1948-Plymouth-Hood-Hinge-Springs-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQfitsZMakeQ3aPlymouthQQhashZitem45f6bbc0d9QQitemZ300492243161QQptZVintageQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
  15. Sorry to be the Devil's advocate here, guys, but actually, Greg, what you said... "It's lowered, its got skirts and spots, fogs and headlight visors. I got my Fulton, and my wires!! Check it out man. They all look the same, though it look like pontoon fnedered Pontiacs have found a home" is what I would consider "throwing stones," in a sense, and could be somewhat offensive to someone who has built and owned lowriders. Actually, I'm surprised to hear such a comment come from you. Now, coming from Don and Tim, yes, but I always thought that you were a little more open-minded on other car styles.Don, I don't see what you missed. Apparently, others, including myself, saw his point. And Tim, before you start calling certain cars "hokey," take a look at some of the cars out in your neck of the woods.
  16. Thanks, Greg! That will be very useful when I have the trailer.
  17. Last week, I purchased a 1948-49 Crown travel trailer so I could do some highway traveling and camping. It's in poor shape, but restoreable, just as the Plymouth was when I bought it. Fortunately, the person I bought it from rebuilds and restores these little gems to whatever condition I want it. I chose the "all original, like when it was new" condition. I noticed some of the trailers he was working on from the 50's era were getting the 50's malt shop makeover (made me want to hurl), but to each his own, I guess. I'm going to have the exterior aluminum replaced and whatever wood damage inside will be replaced as well. New electrical wiring, tires, rebuilt axel and she should be ready for me to do the rest of it inside (painting and detail work). I'm just having him do the professional stuff that I have no knowledge in. It still even has the original stove and ice box, as well as light fixtures. He will have the new floor put in (original 9" composite linoleum squares) and I will have the seat reupholstered and the formice cabinets replaced...etc. Should be pretty sweet when it's done, and how many of these kind of trailers do you actually see pulled by a car of the same vintage? Should be a rare site on the highway. BTW...it's pretty light to pull, so thats good. Anyone else on here have a trailer similar to this or had one? Would be great to hear some of your experiences with it. Darin
  18. Cool car! You guys ever thinking of ever tinkering it back to more of a stock look or leave it custom?
  19. Ok, it appeared to look like a two tone blue from a distance, as the photo depicted.
  20. Wow...both cars look great! That is the only way I would own a 1948 Chevy...all stock original.
  21. Fred- The cut out is just that...cut out...as in the engine stops running. No sputtering or car shaking...just dead engine. This happened again today, but this time after it did it, I coasted in motion, took it out of gear, turned the ignition off and on and then pushed the starter and it started back up and ran. I drove into the parking lot and went into a store for 20 min. Came back out, started the car and let it idle. After a min. it died again. With the ignition still in on position, I tried to start it and nothing. Turned it off for two seconds and then back on and it started back up. The fuel filter was replaced 2 months ago. Is it ready to replace again, you think? The gas tank has been recoated and have new gas lines, so I can't imagine too much junk getting in there, but you never know. I just don'tunder stand that after restarting the ignition it runs fine. Tim, I don't know how populated and congested it is or isn't where you live, but where I live, one just can't pull over and start doing diagnostic tests in the middle of the road or freeway, where this mostly occurs, especially when I don't know what tests to perform. Thanks for advice anyway.
  22. Bill...if I were to hook up an electric fuel pump, I would take out the old-style one and just run a straight line through and have it turn on when the ignition is turned on or would that be too much fuel pressure to the carburator?
  23. I did click on it, but couldn't find that exact car.
  24. So, Bill...what you're saying is an electric fuel pump should solve this problem? When the stalling out was more common, a few months ago, we tweeked the needle on the float up a little and it seemed to go away. Only very seldom does it happen. But because of this, I tend to stay in the slow lane in case I have to pull over, like this last time. Also, I wasn't going up a hill nor was I at a high elevation...just on a level freeway.
  25. Bob...it's the one two cars behind this. The one behind the black 46-48 Dodge.
