  1. The two tone blue one in the background looks nice, as well. Can't figure out what it is though.
  2. And because it's very close to original stock...just how I like them.
  3. Was on the freeway two days ago going about 70 mph when all of a sudden the engine cut out on me. It sounded like the engine was still running, but no power. So I coasted to the side and tried starting the car again, but the motor wouldn't kick in. So I turned off the ignition, waited 10 seconds, turned on the ignition, pushed the starter and it started, and it didn't stall anymore after that. Any speculations or ideas what this could be a sign of or cause? Again, I'm running a Stovebolt 12v electronic ignition on my car.
  4. So, that black "thing" used to be a '49 Dodge? As they say...what a way to %$#& up a nice car. I have seen some hideous customs posted on here, but that definately takes the prize. That blue Chrysler took me from a disturbed mood to a good one.
  5. You are correct.
  6. Is that all, Tim? I was thinking of something more "ready to go."
  7. Ok...went there and found the page on extension springs. So how do I know which one is for mine? A lot of technical stuff there that doesn't make sense to me. http://www.mcmaster.com/#extension-springs/=80z8nl
  8. Just wondering if anyone knows what modern day springs would work as hood springs for the P15 hoods? I have a couple extra springs, but they are old, and so far two others have busted on me since I have owned the car. Has anybody found or know of any other types of new springs that will work instead of replacing with old ones?
  9. Take mine to work? NOT! Actually, I would like to take it to work, but since I work at a high school that is in the middle of "the ghetto," I don't think it would be a good idea, especially since a lot of the students here are into "bombs" and lowriders.
  10. Oh yeah, I remember. There was a guy there with a '47 DeSoto parked in front, as well, correct? Didn't you tell me that you had gone to Upland High? Anyway, I kind of stayed behind the crowd this year because I just didn't see a lot of stock vintage cars to ride along with. I kind of like to see one in front of me and behind me when I'm driving because I like to have the feeling that I'm driving the old highway with a more "back in time" feeling and being sandwiched between a custom '57 Chevy and a new Corvette just doesn't do it for me. I do remember passing your car on the way to Oatman, and wish I could have gotten there earlier to get some pics with your car. How does your car look, by the way?
  11. Well, cut my legs off and call me shorty! That is great news.
  12. Well, in my opinion, not that it matters, but if the car wasn't originally meant to be two-toned, don't force it because then it tends to look that way. Don't get me wrong...I like a two tone paint job, and I wish our P15s were made to have had one, but unfortunatly 1946-48 P15s don't have the natural chrome trim to allow it to look factory. Now, if you are doing a custom anything goes, but that's in a whole different class all by itself. Chevrolet, Pontiac and Oldsmobile had some nice, two tone combo paint jobs in the late 40's. Just my two cents.
  13. It's okay, Don...you are forgiven. Your post has really made me think a lot about what I has been happening, and a lot of it makes sense. The backfife seemed to happen more towards the engine compartment as the engine seemed to be sputtering and I was giving it a little gas to keep it alive. I have noticed the smell of raw gas, especially when the engine is at about 180 and has been running a while. I mainly smell it after the car has been sitting for about 10 minutes, while I go in the store. When I go to start it, that's when I really smell the gas. I hold the gas pedle down and then turn the ignition. The car starts right up, but sputters a little, as if it's burning off extra gas. I have had this percolating issue before, but I thought the heat shield I had made would put a stop to it. What is causing the percolation? Would using a carburator cleaner in the gas help or would it be better just to go through the whole carburator? It's only been on for about 2 years, and I don't know if the oil bath cleaner I put on there is doing it's job or not.
  14. Wow, 54 hits on this, and no one, besides Rockwood, knows what the problem might be.
  15. Charlie, I was waiting to run into you there at Hackberry, so I decided to take a lunch break and opened my trunk lid to gives some shade while I ate. A little while later a gentleman walked up and we started talking about the car and next thing I knew, you started your car and off you went. I guess I'll meet up with you next time.
  16. That's what I thought, at first. I have a Stovebolt electronic ignition and just recently had the car tuned up. The problem is that it's a "come and go" thing, and when I take it in to be looked at, it runs fine...go figure.
  17. While driving last night I had the car cut out on me for a moment, then continued to run again for another hundred feet then cut out again. I pulled over and started the car up again, with a little hesitation, but as the engine was sputtering, I smelled raw gas and then it let out a tremendous backfire. After that, it started to run normal and I got it back into the garage. Is this an adjustment issue or something a little more extreme?
  18. Here are some links that give very detailed information about old Highway 99 through the Grapevine and what still exists. http://www.gbcnet.com/ushighways/US99/US99g.html http://www.gbcnet.com/ushighways/US99/US99f.html
  19. Thanks, guys! Yeah, Arizona and California still have some of the longest, existing stretches of old Highway 66.
  20. This last weekend I took to the road and joined in on the 2010 Arizona Route 66 Fun Run. Of course, I kind of took my time driving it because I didn't want to be caught up in the array of '55-'57 Chevys, T-Birds, mid-60's muscle cars and Corvettes. I did see another P15, but it was a woody wagon. Nonetheless, you couldn't have asked for better weather. I even dressed up in vintage late-40's clothes for the trip. It really felt like I had gone back in time on some of the parts of the road.
  21. The first one in this film I have heard of before, but the other two may have been experimental models. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=e5b_1272568676
  22. Wow...has that thing been stuck in a time capsule or what?
  23. Cool! Really enjoyed the original, stock-looking cars. Some of the others....mmm, I don't know
