  1. The bad thing is that Osama has people already chosen to replace him in case of his death who could be even more ruthless. I'm sure Obama "the ham" will take full credit for this since it happened during his term in office.
  2. Now, that is not only scary to see, but also gut-wrenching. Ply38, what happened to your car is a tragedy and an eye opener, since I've never carried an extinguisher in my car...that is until tomorrow. I can truly say I feel for you and good to hear that you didn't get injured physically, but can't say much for your pride, I'm sure.
  3. Anyone aware of where a complete ignition switch, that for the P15's, can be purchased? I don't mean an original, but a reproduction like the one I have in now, which came with the harness kit. I don't remember the name of the company that I bought the kit from, so I obviously can't contact them. I did a search on here and all I came up with is info about replacing the cylinder and tumbler. All the 3-positioned ones they sell at Napa, Auto Zone and Pep Boys are all too small for the round opening that the switch slides into. (Attached are pics of the one I have on now).
  4. Day 2 of driving the P15 with the new fuel cap and hasn't stalled yet. I believe the problem has been solved. Blucardn, thanks again for making that point. It's saved a lot of time and headaches.
  5. Blucardn...I was reading your post and it made me think about the gas cap. About a year and few months ago, I remember driving off without putting my gas cap back on after filling the car with gas. I went and got an equivilent one at Napa, that looked like the original, but wasn't chrome. I just remembered that it was after I put that cap on I started having the problems with the stalling, but never gave it much thought until after I saw your post. Anyway, I took it off and it looked vented, but took it back to Napa anyway to make sure. After looking in the book for all the similar caps they had available, the counter person showed me another cap that looked just the same, but looked different underneath compared to the other one I had taken in. Come to find out, the one I had taken in was for a car with emmision controls. So I bought the other one, put it on, and it hasn't stalled yet. In fact it seemed like it was running better. I can't say that this was the source of the problem just yet, but so far it hasn't stalled on me. I didn't think a gas cap could make a big difference. BTW...both caps are vented, but the one for emission controls had some extra stuff. Man, the things you learn on here. Thanks, again for your input
  6. Ok, gentlemen...I'm going to take all of your advice that's been given here and go to work on this thing, hopefully solving the problem this time. Yeah, it may seem like I'm looking for a quick fix, and sometimes I am, but I'm also looking for a permanent one as well, and as I come across all these problems, I educate myself and learn something new and how to fix it, should it happen again. Thanks again for your advice and help. And for you, Forum Patrolman Don, I will check with Tom Stovebolt again (he wasn't in today when I called) and let him know you sent me. How's that for recognition?
  7. Sorry, Merle...too many names to remember, especially if they aren't given at the end of a post sometimes.
  8. Thanks for those thar vittles of advice thar, Merle. Actually, I have "cracked it open" and it is very interesting, from what I have seen so far.
  9. Thanks, Tim...and as I told your buddy, Don, when I know for certain it's the electronic ignition I will call Tom, just like you have mentioned, but I'm not sure it is yet.
  10. Dude, you crack me up! Tennessee life must be really slow if you seem to have the time to go through what I've posted, when I posted and how many times I posted. I call that keeping track of my postings, even though you say you don't, but if that wet's your whistle, then go at it my friend. Since you have such a little stiffy for me calling Tom Langston...I will call him today...just for you, but only if you promise to refrain from your lame remarks. Deal?
  11. Don, life here in California is pretty fast paced. We don't always have the time to sit and research everything that has been posted on here, as apparently you do, which is fine. I wish I had that kind of time do that, though. So I envy you, but if the same questions I ask on the multiple threads bother you, as it appears they do, then as I have mentioned before, ignore me. No one else here seems to be having the same problem with my questions except you. Most of the time I don't remember half of the questions I ask, so again...don't stress yourself out over it. I don't.
  12. Greg, I do have a 1953 Motor's book covering back to 1946. You said that has a troubleshooting check off list in it?
  13. No, it cuts out instantly, without warning. I have noticed that since I changed the air filter to oil bath that the carb has been looking a little dirtier. Are those oil bath air cleaners really as good as the filtered ones? I notice that a lot of silt and dirt get caught in the oil reserve when I check to change it.
  14. Carl, I have a 3 speed manual trans w/overdrive. Greg, I don't have the old distributor anymore. I sold it when I got the HEI. BTW...was that last post of yours to me or Carl?
  15. Okay, guys...I see a few more things you have mentioned about checking that I haven't, yet, and that helps a lot...thanks! We did adjust the float on the carb a few months back, and that seemed to clear up the problem for a while. What I don't understand is why it would stall only when I was slowing down to a stop. Yesterday, upon acceleration, it cut out briefly, but then kept on going after.
  16. Wow, Don...thank goodness you keep track of my postings because God knows I couldn't have. Yes, I still have this problem, as you can see. No, I didn't contact Tom until I was sure that his HEI was causing the problem. It's one of these problems that goes away, making you think that it's fixed, only to come back again. I changed to the HEI because I was recommended to on this site. No, the engine wasn't stalling from what I can remember, but I was convinced by some on here that it was a better conversion to switch over to. I would say, roughly, that I have put on 25K since the engine was installed
  17. Still having issues with the car stalling, which has boiled down to ignition system. The ignition switch is fine, so we figured that it was something to do with the Stovebolt electronic ignition. I've taken it to two mechanics already, and even a friend and I have tried to dick around with it and neither of us can find out why it's stalling. And as usual...it's never known when it's going to stall. I've replaced the chip with a new one already, and it seemed to stop it for a while, but now that occasional stalling keeps coming back. I'm ready to rip out the electronic ignition system and put the points back in. It seems to stall most at an idle or when I slow down to stop. Anyone have this problem?
  18. I was looking at some pics of 1946-48 Dodges and noticed that some of them had stainless window trim around the outside of the front and back side windows. Do you think that this same trim would work on the P15's, as well? I think that would look real nice on them.
  19. Man, I hate when they do this to the old downtown main street. Meaning, making it one way traffic, adding curbs that protrude into the street, creating planter boxes...etc. I think the downtown district loses it's old charm when they try to modenize it.
  20. Yeah, it was me. Thanks for posting that one anyway.
  21. Real cool! I love watching old home 8mm movies.
  22. Wow, Jon....the trailer is cool! I recently bought, and am currently restoring, a 1948 Crown 12' travel trailer. Looks to be about the same size as yours. How does the car do pulling it? Do you have electric brakes on the trailer or are the car brakes sufficient enough to stop it? Also, I noticed how low the car is in the back...is that natural for the car to do that or do you need stronger shocks?
  23. Thanks for posting that, Bob. I had never seen the original one before, since mine was missing when I got the car. The one in the pic below is the aftermarket one that I was trying to replace. I finally had to order it and now I have a nice, three-speed working blower, once again.
  24. Well, considering that the other ones that were being popped out by a guy on here a few years back were going for $35 a piece, I don't think $20 is too bad.
  25. No problem, Wayne. The good thing is that he has them guarenteed for a year.
