  1. Okay, I just saw Fred's posting of how it goes on. I didn't realize that he had already posted it. Anyway, I'll leave this up so others can see how it loks and what comes with it, etc., in case they are interested in buying one.
  2. Alright, as some of you may recall my gas tank was having issues about six months ago with the protetive coating coming apart inside the tank. Anyway, due to a long, hot summer and other expenses that had to come first, I finally went ahead and ordered the aftermarket fuel tank from Tank Inc. a couple weeks ago through Ebay and it finally arrived today. Took it out of the box and inspected it to make sure everything was there, which it looks like it is. I'm planning to have a buddy come over and install it this weekend. The only problem I see is that there is a small hole at the top of the tank that seems to be where a brass elbow fitting goes for some kind of gas pressure release? Since the original tank didn't have this, and it mounted flush to the botton side of the trunk, I see this somehow getting in the way of a flush mount. Also, the mounting straps seemed to formed on one side and not the other. Do the straps need to be bent to fit on the unformed side? I don't know...just taking a guess here. Anyway, who else has picked one of these up and has, or is presently mounting one up in their car now? Since there were no installation instructions that came with it, it kind of seems like a trail and error type of situation, but I'm not really up for making errors since it's important that the installation is done right. Any advice on tips on installation? Thanks!
  3. Yes, I converted the old gauge over already. New gauge, old face plate over it.
  4. Well, I still have my straps, and they seem to be in pretty good shape. Are saying that the original ones will work on the new tank? I do have the one-wire fuel sending unit I got from JC Whitney. That should work in there, right?
  5. You mean the straps they send you don't fit correctly?
  6. Thanks, Dave. It's good to know that I have some more variety to chose from.
  7. Wanted to know if anyone on here with a 1941-48 Dodge or Plymouth has purchased this particular fuel tank. My original is such a mess from the bad inside coating job that it will cost more to repair it than it would just to get this aftermarket tank. The rocks and paint remover idea didn't work that well. All the shops around here, that are willing to fix it, have to cut a square in it to be able to sandblast and remove the old coating from inside. When all is said and done....$270-$300, and that is without a new coating. So this new tank from Tanks Inc. claims to fit right up in where the old one was, but hold two gallons less than the original. It's only $230. Has anyone purchased one of these? How do you like it? http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=226/category_id=-1/home_id=-1/mode=prod/prd226.htm
  8. You can do it yourself, but unless you are skilled in the upholstery profession, your results will look like you did it yourself. The cheaper you pay for the work, the cheaper it looks, I have found. Like they say...you get what you pay for.
  9. He had his brother do that, who has a chrome shop. My guy just prepped everything that needed chroming.
  10. I know you do, Tim. You always have. BTW..it's Seacrest Green (a 1946-48 Chrysler color). Blue is a nice color, and that particular blue looks good an the cars it was meant for when it was developed, but not on a 40's or 50's era car
  11. Was I right about the era of that color?
  12. I noticed what I was prepping my car for paint that it had been painted that ugly blue color. Looks like the blue that was popular on a lot of the Mopar muscle cars of the late-60's and early-70's
  13. Mine was polished so bright that people actually thought it was chrome. The polisher I know does it all the old-fashioned way and is a miracle worker when it comes to straightening and smoothing out dents in stainless and chrome. The option is yours...you can do it yourself or have a experienced person do it. It just depends how nice you want it to look.
  14. Yes, but sometimes doing it yourself, when you don't have the experience, can make you later wish that you had taken it to a professional or to someone who had better knowledge, especially when you've added more damage than what was there originally. Also, having to replace parts that you've "attempted" on your own can become more costly to replace than just having it done by the more experienced person, and replacement stainless isn't actually falling off of trees. Another thing, not all of us are "miracle workers" nor do we have the proper tools, working space or knowledge to work with stainless. Fortunately, I have a friend who polishes and works with metals of all kinds, so I didn't have to shell out that much cash all.
  15. Dale...this is what I'm running in my P15, and have been for over five years. Darin http://stoveboltengineco.com/catalog/store/#ecwid:category=361515&mode=product&product=1222043
  16. Larry....unless you have experience in stainless steel repair and polishing, I suggest you leave it to those who do, if you want professional results. Just my take. Also, be careful with those clips that are attached to the interior trim because they are only meant to be bent back and forth so many times before they will break off, which I have found from experience.
  17. Call it what you want, but it was total sarcasm on your part, and it's been that way for the past couple of years. Maybe some may find your digs and so-called humor funny and entertaining, but I see no more than trying to be an attention whore. One more time...if my posts bother you then go to someone else's. Maybe if you stop trying to belittle people so much you may actually have more than just a small handful of people on here who would think that you're a pretty cool person. Anyway, I'm ready to move on.
  18. First, Greg, if Don doesn't need your support then why are you going to bat for him? He was out of line and I was out of line right back at him...and I was being nice. His remarks were uncalled for, and he knows it, and I didn't see it as "ribbing or long distant noogies." He likes to push buttons and he pushed mine on the wrong day. His kind of "advice" was totally irrelevant to what I asked about. For some reason he likes to make people feel like they are inferior to him, and don't say he doesn't because I have seen him do it to others. Plain and simple, if he has nothing nice to say he needs to keep his comments to himself. Is his version of "chiming" being nothing more than facetious just to humor you guys? Well, whatever smokes his corn pipe. If he can't say something nice, then, as I said before, he needs to shut his pie hole. I don't come here looking for confrontation with anybody, but I will not be belittled by someone publically just to provide entertainment for others. Now, getting back to your "advice"...I know the screen and bolt you are talking about. I was just going to go ahead and take the top of the pump off and get a better view of the inside of it to see just how much of that material may be inside it or should I not do that? I'm not sure exactly where the clog occured...could be in the fuel line, too. Either way I have to blow it out with a hose.
  19. Thanks, Ed. I forgot about that.
  20. Bob, I'm dropping the tank today. I have a buddy who says he can take the tank and clean it out completely back to how it was originally. If it's beyond salvaging, then I'll see what can be done from there. Thanks for the info on what other tanks I can swap...I wasn't aware of that. Now, I am. That's why I come here with questions. Thanks, again. Darin P.S. What other ways are there to keep the tank from rusting, other than putting a sealer on it, which doesn't seem to do well with today's gas?
  21. Thanks, Rockwood. That was a good idea, which is why I come here. Thanks, again.
  22. Looks like you're having a bad day, again, Don. Sorry to hear that. What's wrong..hemorrhoids flaring up again? Out of Milk of Magnesia? Prostate acting up? You know...you must be a very unhappy man, and it's that unhappiness and pessimism you bring here that drives others off this board, and I know a few who have left because of you and your uncalled for, facetious remarks. One more time (and I have said this before), if you don't like what I post about (as you make quite obvious), then simply ignore me and keep your pie hole shut. In fact, I would greatly appreciate it from now on if you would refrain from replying to anything else I say on here because all you spew out of your mouth is pessimistic garbage that I really don't need to hear, and I don't think I stand alone when I say that.
  23. You may be right, Darren, but at that time I had just bought the car and it was suggested by a friend that it was I needed to do. The guy who coated the tank should've known better too.
  24. Yeah, but when you say an original are you talking an NOS one? Those are virtually non-existant. Or did you mean something like this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-1941-1948-Dodge-Plymouth-Car-Steel-Gas-Tank-16-gallon-Tanks-Inc?item=320897868587&cmd=ViewItem&_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D4%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8561483411252156789
