I looked up inmy Hollander Interchnage manual Plymouth 1941 is part number 905336 and Ply 42-48 is # 947450 So since they do not state that these could intechange i would not think the 42-48 will be a direct matchup. But as someone else stated you can take measurements and it might be close or it also could just be the mounting holes might be in a different spot onthe flange. BUT 41-48 Dodge will interchange between the dodges only Part # 973695. I have a 39 Desoto so this is the best that I can provide for you. Rich Hartung

The picture that you have for the forglight bracket is an after market bracket. The correct style is currently on ebay search NOS Mopar foglight bracket. the cost is 99.99. The unity is smaller in size in the parts. the True Mopar and correct style have the bigger rounded sections. If you want period correct than the ebay is what you want. If you have a driver thenthe unity is ok. I have a 39 Desoto and have the bigger brakets that were given to me by a MoPar collector and was very knowledgeable on the vintage MoPar items. Ok: There was a question this morning about the correct color of the spark plug wires that we should have on the old cars and trucks. According to my catalog from Mopar that covers from 1928 - 1940 here is the information: Spark Plugw wire Black Now for the cloro combinatiions on the cloth covered wires There is a specific pattern for strickrs in the wires 12 gauge wire had 3 stickers 14 Guage 1 sticker 16 gauge 2 stricker 10 gauge had 4 strickers Basic colors used were Red, Blue and Green with the various strickers. The catalog does not indicate hat the color of the stirckers should be for each wire size. The Plymouth club might have this info. My catalog also has pictures of the various connectors and proper ends that were used and the corresponding mopar part numbers. This catalof also lists the appropriate lengths for the spark plug wires Also has the size for each fuse combination used on the cars and trucks. The proper spark plug end was the exposed metal L shaped end and not the rubber boot style I have this catalog on CD. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com

I really like those jack stands under the jeep with the extra rims just ready for it to roll right out from underneath someone working on the vehilce. Hope you had some realy study jack stands under the car when you took the rear end out of the jeep. That scares the HxLL out of me when I saw that picture. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com

1939 Plymouth Service Manual Recomendations
desoto1939 replied to Randy L Peterson's topic in P15-D24 Forum
I just did a search on ebay for 1939 Plymouth Service manual and there are 13 listing which include paper copy and also cd version. Irv Bishko does a lot reproduction manuals. If the owner just wants information then get a reprint and save some money instead of an original. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com -
If the 40 Dodge is similar to the 39 Desoto then you willhave three wires. Each wire is a different color. On my 39 Desoto wiper swith the connectors are labeled as A,B,C and onthe motor there are the same three corresponding Letters. Just match the appropriate wire to the appropriate letter on each item. If you do a search on the Ebay under fender welting than you will see numerous sellers. I like the plastic over the old style cloth. Refer to my posting about getting wax on the welting if it is cloth and also the part about water. Rich HArtung

I purcahsed from NAPA a Radio Static Condensor and have it on my generator. I forget which bolt this is hooked to on the gen. I also have the suppressor that is on the center hole on the distributor lead that comes from the Coil. Rich HArtung Desoto1939@aol.com

From what I have heard other members that have used Tennesee Clutch they also include the alignment tool when they return your rebuild pressure plate and clutch disk. This company come very highly recomended by several members of the forum. Rich HArtung

Yes you are correct that the left hand threaded lug nuts should be onthe driver side of the vehicle. Looks as if the prior owner chnaged the drive axle with a left hand treaded one. rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com

37-39 ford head lights on a mopar
desoto1939 replied to RobertHickey's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
The 39 fenders had the headlights in the fender and they had the old bulb style and were mostly rectangular in shape. The 40 and up then converted to the totally round sealed beam bulb so the configuation is totally different. I have a 39 Desoto and know a lot about the 39 cars. The picture you show with the ford lights is a street rod that had a lot of customizations done to it and I would suspect that they have fiberglass fenders on it and not metal fenders. Contact me regarding what interchnages. I have an early Hollander book. Rich HArtung Desoto1939@aol.com -
I looked at the pictures and the end housing is not the same as what was used with the old Detroint Pin and tunion housing. Not sure what year your plymouth is. The drive shaft length might be the same but you will also need to know the length from the center of the of each pin hole. These old drive shaft had different lengths, but the hosuing would fit on these drive shafts. I have several catalogs on driveshafts and u joints. Send me the year of your car and I might beable to find the information if my catalog covers your year and model of plymouth. Alsonote that some sellers on ebay say that the housing and u joint will fit Chyrlers vehicles but you need to know the measurements on the housing to be sure. There was recent listing for Dodge/Ply/Desoto and Chrysler U Joint for 30-40 on the Ebay. I contacted the seller and we determined that the housing would only fit the Willys becase the flange was only 3 3/8 wide and most of the flanges we need are 3 5/8 inches wide. So buyer beware some people do not know what they are selling. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com Rich HArtung desoto1939@aol.com

The second picture is a 39 Dodge coupe that had the sealed beam conversion kit on the fender. Does he have any 39 Chrysler or Desotos is the yard and or 38 Desoto/Chryslers. I am always looking for some parts for my 39 Desoto. Looking for the front seat brakets that attach to the floor and control. 39 dodge/Chry and Desoto 4 dooor would all be the same units. When i did my 39 Desoto i did not go back to the original cloth covered style. I found that if you got any wax on the material cloth then it left a white mark. Also this cloth style then has a tendency to soak up water and this is what caused the fenders to rust in this area on the car. I when witht he plastic black style becasue if you get wax on it you can just wipe it off and it willnot leave a white mark. Also the plastic is more of an anti squeek since the fender can move as the ody twist and then then paint is not removed. ANother point it that since it is plasti it will not soakup any water. The cars that used the black anti squeek did not have the anti squeek painted the color of the body. This was done when the car was painted a second time and the painter was lazy and did not remove the welting. This is a big judgin point deduction if painted. Rich HArtung

WHEN YOU SAY CLUTCH KIT, WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR? Do you currently have the pressure plate and clutch disk? are you looking for a new throwout bearing and assembly? If you have the current pressure plate and clutch disk then you can have them rebuilt/ See Tennessee Clutch. Rich HArtung Desoto1939@aol.com

37-39 ford head lights on a mopar
desoto1939 replied to RobertHickey's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
The 37-39 Ford had the teardrop headlight bucket and refelector and glass lens. The 40 dodge used round sealed beam headlights and inner bucket. This is going to take some major modifications on your car or truck. As you goign for a custom look to just want to see if this can be done. Seems to be alot of work and money to get this look. At least with the 40 Dodge and selaed beam you could convert to halogen or evey 12v system and still be alot chaper inthe long run. Figues on needed inner bucket, refelectors, glass and headlight trim just for starters. Then the fabrication into what ever you are looking for. Also since the from on the fender is more flat then would not have the correct contour onthe fender. I would stay with the original look. Just my two cents. Rich HArtung desoto1939@aol.com -
Still do not understand. Did you have the car insured for 20K or 14K. If you had it insured for 20K then that should have been the max that they would pay if the car would have been totalled out beyounf repair. Since the 14K was below the insured valued then they were responsible to repair the car. I have insuracne with Grundy and when I talked to them during your issue with Haggerty they told me that if insured with them if the car is insureded for 20K then they will fix the car upto 20K. There is no prorating on the value of the car. I would look into another carrier and then let the state Insurace commisioner know of what they pulled on you. Something is very fisshy in the fish market if you know what I mean. Rich Hartung

To Members and their immediate and extenterd family. Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving Holiday. Please share some quality time with your loved ones. Time is a very special item that we really have such little time in our life. Enjoy each others company and if you are currently having an issue with someone in your family now is the time to forgive each other. When a loved one has passed on you can not bring them back to so your are sorry. Family is the most important thing that we all have in our short lifetime on this earth. Please drive safe and watch out for the other driver. Eat a lot of turkey and the other great food that will be placed upon our tables and thanks to all of our armed forces personnel that are currently overseas that cannot spend this precious time with their families. God Speed to all. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com

It sounds as if you want to spray on the old rust protection under the fenders. First questions is WHY??? They found out that this really casued more rustout then it prevented. Whena small stone chpped the undercoating and small pin hole was made. Then when running inthe rain and snow and wet weather the water would get into the hole and then run down behind the rustproofing. After time has gone by then you would start to see rust out coming from the inside of the fender. Since we do not drive our cars in bad weather and I am assuming this is what you are going to do then I would not coat the inner fenders. When they just have the paint you can wash the mud a grime off and make sure they are clean. Just my two cents. The newer cars are now made with galvanized fender and also plastic inner fender to help prevent rust out. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com

1935 Desoto head retoration.
desoto1939 replied to Fernando Mendes's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
Fernando, The 30 Desoto had the flat inlkine straight 8 and not a V8 like what Ford had in 32. The Desoto's did not go to the V8 until around 53-54 with the early version of the Hemi V8 engine. Yes the 30 Desoto stick had the floor stick shift. They went to the 3 on the column in 1939. Carl Bier who was one of the designers for Desoto and a major player with Chrysler designed the Airflow. He had a 36 Desoto airflow. His 36 Desoto Aiflow was on ebay for sale several years ago and there was a major design chnaged that happened with this car. It was documented by the current owner that Carl wanted the car to have the shift on the column so this car was chnaged over to use the 39 transmission with the column on the tree. 1935 Desoto head retoration.
desoto1939 replied to Fernando Mendes's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
The nosie from the engine running was very loud for a mopar flat head engine. These are very quiet. And yes this is a flat head 6. DeSoto had the 6 and Chrysler had the 8. In 30 Desoto had a flat head 8 but then did not go to an 8 until the 50's when they introduced the Hemi. Also in 1934 deSoto only had the Airflow model and no other sedan model. Then the next year they had the Airflow and then the regular sedan. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com -
1935 Desoto head retoration.
desoto1939 replied to Fernando Mendes's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
Correct, The temp housing comes out the side of the head and not on top of the head. This is also done because of the curved hoods and grill onthe airflows. This mechinest is very talented in what he does with his engines and other machining. Very interesting to see how this is all done. Also note that he is doing this free hand and does not have any guide lines drawn on the head to help him cutting out the rotted or broken area. The Airflow engines where different as compared to the later flat heads that we all know. Rich HArtung
