This is a Sisson Automatic Choke as has been stated from above. Becareful on which sisson choke you are looking at on ebay. There are two different styles. The 49 Plymouth and up willnopt work on your car becasue of the position that the control lever is on that model. The 49 and up are costly as you can see and the early one that you use are also not cheap. Contact me I have a couple. Rich HArtung Desoto1939@aol.com

This morning I led a group from the Chester county antique car club to the 3Dog Gage in Boyertown, PA. They had an openhouse this morning. This museum/restoration is run by the Myers family out of Worchester PA. In this collection he has he 1932 Ford Hottrod that has won several major awards. Classic race cars, Classic hot rods from the 50 and is currently working on a Ford Cobra body. The tour was free and they have a very nice collection of cars. There is a car that is part of the Paul Newman racing cars. Also they had several Chrysler Hemi engines and a hotrod with a Chrysler Hemi that has a supercharger that is chain driven and not belt drive. The body of the cobra was on a rack and you could see the internal framework and how the aluminum body is attached by hammering the ends of the body around the steel frame work. All of local PA members missed a great museum. I have attached some pictures for your viewing please. if anyone want to see other photos I can send them to you

I have seen similar hood hinges for the early plymouths that are made of stailess steel. The seller is on Ebay so you might seqarch there and be able to find the seller and see if he has a long enough section that might work on your car. The hood center strip on my 39 Desoto is Chromed plated all the beltmolding on my car is stainless. thry this link on ebay 1949-50 MOPAR PLYMOUTH HOOD CENTER MOULDING (NOS) PT# 1298932 selling for arounf 30 dollars Rich HArtung Desoto1939@aol.com

How to determine if car has original paint?
desoto1939 replied to central52's topic in P15-D24 Forum
Also look arounf any molding to see where it might have been taped and the new paint if it was repainted is on some of the trim or rubber gaskets. ususeally you will find a tell tale sign of this areound the windsheild modlings or rear window modings and some times the vent windows. If you can also loosen upa taillight assembly and then pull in out of the fender alittle you might see a difference in the paint. Rich HArtung desoto1939@aol.com -
Did you pullthe venturi tube out of the carb body and if you did, did you use the correct carter tool to do this. This is a very very thin brass tube and if it is not removed and install correctly can also cause issues.. Most home rebuilder do not take this tube out becasue they do not have the proper tools and just spray Carb cleaner up the tube hole to clean it out. Just another thought. Here is another option to help when driving on high speed access roads. I have a 39 Desoto also still stock engine. My car drives and handles the best around 50 MPH becasue it is a 3 speed and has the 4.11 rear end. I have attache a couple of clipon red bicycle flashing light to the license plate that sits inthe middle of the trunk lid. I hae the flashing at a moderate speed of flashing pattenr. I have noticed that when I have th eunit on the peopel seem to give me some more space in the rear and generally do not climb up my buttend. We willnot bebale to stop all of the people that travel like bats out of HxLL and also the people that want to lok at the car when passing you but thais has help and worked for me. I live outside of Philadlephia with all major access roads being 2-3 lane highways. Also you can get some magnitised strip and then add refelective red tape to it and then stick this on your truck lid or some where on the back of the car to warn people. Why did you start the car to build up vacuum pressure. The original car and MC would not have been a power assist braking system. To me it sould as if you have something still install incorrectly in the MC. How did you bleed the brakes at each wheel cylinder? Did you use a hand vacuum mighty kit to bleed or did you have someone sit inthe car and push the brake pedal to bleed each wheel cylinder? Where did you statrt the bleeding process, which wheel. SHould start at the furthest wheel from the MC which would be the Right rear, then left rear then right front then left fron to get an even flow of fluid tothe wheels. The instruction should have been in the MC rebuild kit I will look to see if I have some instructions this same rebuild would be the same for my 39 Desoto with the same MC. rich HArtung desoto1939@aol.com

Hope everyone in the Northeastern pasrt of the coutry is ok this morning. In the Philadelphia we were sparred the snow fall. They had anticipated 6-12 but we only got about 2-4. I know New Jersey along the coast and New York and up towards Boston got hit real hard. You cannot drive on the roads in NJ becasue of a State of emergency. Roads in Pa are open. Hope no one loses electricity or heat. You all take care and try to stay warm and do not over do it when shoveling snow. Take your time its not worth a heart attack. what is the model number on the motor? how many wires are the wires hooked to a letered or number post on the motor? Is it an autolite motor or who made the motor would also help. I know onmy 39 Desoto I use an Auolite Ew4001 motor and it has three wires that connect toa labeled A, b and c post of the wiper motor and these then attach to the appropriate contacts on the wiper switch. so any info would be helpful and do you have the switch to go with the motor? Can Anybody Identify This Desoto '46, '47, '48 Part?
desoto1939 replied to Bingster's topic in P15-D24 Forum
could it be used the support the rear fender and bolt to the frame and then to the bottom of the fender so that the fender can not be pushed in near the back of the wheel opening. Just a thought. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com -
Also have the seller verify in writing that the head is level and is not warped and is not cracked or repaired and that all thread are good and there are not messed up threads? Also that all head bolt holes are not out of round. Also have him run a flat edge on the manifold to verify that the manifold is not warped. If warped then it will need to be planed to get it perfectly flat across the entire unit also the same with the head. So buyer be ware of any potential issues. So you have $2000 in parts and what is this going to do for the car? It might go a little faster make it look like a supped up engine but you still have the 40 suspension and braking system, unless that has already been updated. I am not trying to be sarcastic but think about the first outlay of cash and then the additional funds needed to install the parts and the additional setup costs versus just running with what you have now on the car. You could use these funds maybe for an upgrade to interior or chrome of other issues. These are just my 50 cents worth of input. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com

here are some pictures of the 4200 series Detroit Housing and Kit and then pin and the pin with the end caps and springs on them insterted into the housing with measurements. The housing at the flange diameter is 3 5/8 by 3 inches tall. 1. The first picture show the pin with the end caps and flat spring washer installed. I just pressed the pins and the unit into the hosuing with no effort at all It slide right in without any effort and any lubricant. 2. 3rd picture show the distance from side to side of the inside 3 1/32 3. 4th picture is the pin length 2 21/32 4. 5 th picture is the pin with the end caps and spring washers in the micrometer without any real pressure on the ends 3 3/64 5. 6th picture is of the repair kit that the components were taken from These are the measurements that you should have on your unit. There were three series of U joint bodies: 4100 the body flange diam is 3 3/8 inches 4200 body flange diam is 3 5/8 inches You use the 4200 Detroit metal housing. 4400 body diam is 4 inches so the pin will be a different length based on the series that you are using. Universal Joint re-build . Roller bearing - trunion type
desoto1939 replied to Conn47D24's topic in P15-D24 Forum
Ok I just miced a current pin in a spare drive shaft for my 39 Desoto that also used the Detroit pin and trunion 114-52 which also would be the same for the Dodge for the 47. The pin length is 2 21/32 from end to end without the end pins. Also the body diameter for metal housing your car should be 3 5/8 which is the 4200 series for your car. Rich Hartung -

Converting Reflector head light to Halogen 6v bulbs

I have heard of this gentleman in Oregon it is an oxide coating I think Aluminum. This is the coating that they are using in our modern cars to get the bright reflective headlight beam. Yes this is another option and this might be the best way to go. Thanks for your input. At least with your Ply you can find the reflectors but for the 39 Desoto these are so hard to find that is why I have some real reservations about drilling out the hole. Once it is done you can not go back to original look. Rich HArtung Desoto1939@aol.com -
Universal Joint re-build . Roller bearing - trunion type
desoto1939 replied to Conn47D24's topic in P15-D24 Forum
What rear car is these u joints for I have several kits and I can check my kits and also my U joint catalog. But need to know the year and model of your car or truck. Rich HArtung Desoto1939@aol.com -
And even Desoto used the same MC and Kit. So the piston should not have changed if you are using the correct kit. Again it could have been rebuild incorrectly and also did he check to make sure the relief holes are open and the relief check valvue is installed inthe correct way. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com

Someone elase in the club had a similar issue and the pin was to long they cut it down a little and then the end tabs fit. There are specific Detroit Pin And Trunion housings and repair kits that fit your car. Do you know the kit number that you used. I have a U joint book and I might have a lisiting for your car. Will need to know your car make and year. Some housing are smaller in size so might have gotten the wrong housing. Can you measure the distance from side to side on the flange of the unit and also the total height onthe housing. Rich HArtung Desoto1939@aol.com -
Did you put the releif value in the correct way. Sounds as if you may have it in the MC incorrectly. Also check the two holes inthe reservior to make sure that they are both open. Freview the install instruction with the master cyclinder kit or refer to your service manual. I use the same MC in my 39 Desoto as in you Plymouth. Thes MC are getting harder to find and are around the $300 range. If you can not get a New one then have you oldone resleeved. Rich HArtung Desoto1939@aol.com
