Wondering if there are any other good reference books available for the rebuilding of the Dodge L engines? I have the 1948-1949 Dodge Truck B-1 Series Shop Manual, The 1941-1947 Dodge WC Truck Engine and Clutch Rebuild Manual (3/4 ton and 1 1/2 ton military manual) and the Dodge B-Series Trucks-Restorer's & Collector's Reference Guide & History. If anyone has any other items they would like to share or point me in the direction of it would be appreciated. Block is in the shop getting hot tanked and magnafluxed, so hopefully in a month or two will be getting on the rebuild. Thanks

OH, learn something new everyday. Well we'll see what they say in Colorado, in X number of years when this project is finally roseworthy. LOL

Mine from what I can tell is original, and Clear

Got to thinking, I had no place for my 'modern' Month and Year tags..... Problem solved. Was an older Yellow on Blue plate, glad I have a box of older plates. I hope the local LEO's APPROVE, ?

Engine Machine Work Questions
billrigsby replied to billrigsby's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
Well I called and scheduled to bring my block down to be hot tanked and magnafluxed on Friday, found out any machine work would be 2 months out...? Would not feel right using his services for those two items and then taking it somewhere else, I guess it is what it is. I thought everyone was supposed to be staying home and being safe LOL. I'll talk to him, and see if he can recommend someone to get it done quicker, but I'd really like to have these guys do it they come so highly recommended. Well, we'll see what happens I guess if the block is crap it really doesn't matter, dilemmas dilemmas ? -
Actually that is what I used but mine is half-inch drive, I had it in my impact screwdriver the kind you hold with your hand and hit with a hammer and it's supposed to jar it loose, well one of them it just rounded out the second one it just started cracking because it was above grade so to speak. I drilled them out to about as much as I felt comfortable, 1/2 inch, then used an easy out, just barely tapped it in so it didn't spread too much and got both of them out with the threads unscathed. Hot tanking and magnafluxing next Friday, and I'm going to leave the broken rear main seal bolt for the machine shop, I tried but I can't get it, don't want to bung it up to much.

Restoring a Mopar Deluxe Model 31 Heater

That's a lot better than pretty good, I have to say you have the touch, beautiful. ? -
Thanks, nice to know it is standard pipe thread, drill and easy-(hopefully)-out. ?

Sorry, but this will be the first of 'probably' many questions as I go through this re-build. If it were a Yamaha 2-Stroke Twin of the 80's, could do it blindfolded, had the whole series from 79 Daytona Special to 85 RZV 500 V-Twin (Canadian, Not Japanese with the aluminum frame ?). But I digress..... Got the price sheet from Rocky Mountain Machine, these guys come highly recommended, even recommended from a shop that was recommended, if that makes sense. Some of my needs are obvious, starting with hot tanking and magnafluxing. Bore and hone, cam bearings, valve seats, valve guides, wrist pin bushings. (Missing anything)? Mill the block and head? I am using a NOS crank and head, any need to magnaflux? Would think not, crank - Grinding? Polishing? Like I said, if this were an 80's motorcycle engine! Will need some guidance on a flathead, helped with a few small blocks, but still very different. Wanna do it ONCE and RIGHT. THANKS!

Getting the T306 block ready to be cleaned and magnafluxed, got all the freeze plugs out, have one threaded plug that will not budge. Another like it on the front of the block (have not tried that one, still soaking) Wondering if this is a standard plug, will need to drill it out. Two other blocks have one and I may be able to salvage one of them? Also got a snapped bolt in the rear main seal to drill out, then I think I am good.

I have had similar problems with Krylon and others, not sure what the 'answer' is, just glad it is done.

Decided to give the clear coat a try, No Disaster, an even sheen across the plates, time to put them up for display til needed.

I found NOS for my B1D, do not know of aftermarket? ?

A number of setbacks, when I applied the clear coat, I had several reactions so started over, The second go was even worse. Decided to just go base color coat and try hand painting characters. Finally after two trys got a nice looking base coat. Got some good quality brushes and made a bridge for my hand to rest on. Not as good as as @lostviking, but acceptable, I said if mine came out half as good I would be happy. Not sure, but would like a clear coat, but that may be a disaster waiting to happen? I guess at worst, I get more practice, at best they have a nice even sheen to them. I'll sleep on that one. ?

A freebie on the side of the road, Electro Magic Grime Fighter Model 2500, no idea of year (like I need another project) Maybe a basket case, who knows, definitely missing the coil assembly for heating. Fan/Fuel (kerosene) pump works then binds, Water Pump Motor/Pump seems to work. Not sure why there was a compressor air line with it, but I can always use another. Longshot, can not find a manual, wonder if anyone has one?

Humid, HA, this is high desert Colorado This is just 'killin time' stuff, won't need these for years. I don't have a lot of patients if I see it, need to stash them away a while. Outa sight Outa mind., I will learn from the master!
