  1. Thanks, did not know that, I stand corrected and more knowledgeable! ?
  2. One is definitely a Synchro transmission....... .......the other not so much
  3. Got the Stromberg, freed up and cleaned up a bit, it is the correct BXV-3 Model, also grabbed another from EBay, between the two should be able to have a good working carb. Rebuild Kits? Best brand / source? I see NOS ones on EBay in the $50 range but wondering if advancements in gaskets and such would make a newer set more worthwhile. What about rebuild instructions, any out there/ come in the kits? Could not find much on the web for this one, it has been kind of been a fuel injection world for me as long as I can remember. ?
  4. Yes that's the way I'm looking at it, it will fly outside of California, I highly doubt the truck will ever be in California ever again so I think I'll be okay. But that doesn't change the fact that when I first registered it with the YOM plates, they were not giving out the metal well, they didn't even give instructions they just handed me an envelope with registration and a sticker in it, Ahh, the good old days LOL

  9. Fortunately, I have already jumped through these hoops…. YOM License Plates are officially manufactured California license plates issued in: — 1972 or prior, for commercial vehicles. · DMV must determine that the YOM license plates are legible and serviceable prior to assignment to a vehicle. · YOM license plates must be supplied by the vehicle owner and authenticated by DMV personnel. · Base year license plates must have the appropriate year validation sticker attached to the plate to be authenticated as other than the base year. The plates must be: — original (legible and unaltered characters). — a configuration authorized for the year of the vehicle entered on the application. · Legitimate YOM specifications may be determined by verifying the license plate(s) against the license plate information contained in Appendix 1E. · The YOM plates must be acceptable by DMV and may be rejected by DMV if the configuration carries any connotations offensive to good taste or have been restricted or removed from regular series license plates. · Two license plates are required for every qualifying vehicle. · Because DMV does not have year model information for all historical vehicles, the YOM applicant may have to prove that the year model of the vehicle described in the application is correct Original Plate Application—the following must be submitted: In addition to the usual registration and/or transfer requirements, the application must include: · A Year of Manufacture (YOM) License Plate Application. · Authentication of the license plates by DMV which requires taking the plates to a DMV field office. — DMV will also verify that the configuration is not duplicated and already in use on another vehicle. · Original YOM license plate fee I am taking some liberties ie. ‘entirely flexible’ to the part below…. Displaying YOM sticker The applicant will be issued a PYR (partial year) sticker showing the month and year of expiration, along with a metal permanent sticker well for displaying the PYR sticker. I do have the original PYR (partial year sticker) issued in 1988, Technically, the newer and smaller CALIFORNIA plate, was issued by CALIFORNIA and contains a well….. · The well must be placed behind the license plate, extending above the upper right hand corner, or, if not possible, placed on the right side of the plate. …..and is mounted behind the YOM Plate. · The original sticker(s) on the license plate must not be removed from the license plate, or the validation will be void. This is from the 09/2004 version; Handbook of Registration Procedures (cannot find an earlier one), Went from one paragraph to two pages! Not sure what version would have been in use when I originally registered the truck in 1988. I know I was not provided a metal sticker well or any instructions. I am considering my self ‘grandfathered’ in to the 1980’s. 14.100 Year of Manufacture Model Year Date Plates (VC §5004.1) Year of Manufacture (YOM) license plates are any officially manufactured California license plates issued prior to 1963 that are determined to be legible and serviceable by the DMV. YOM plates may be assigned in lieu of regular license plates to any currently registered 1962 or older year model motor vehicle or trailer of a corresponding model year. Kit cars of vintage automobiles (a replica of a 1928 vehicle for example) do not qualify for YOM plates. Vehicles with YOM plates have full operating privileges and are not restricted to participation in historical vehicle activities. The plates must be supplied by the vehicle owner and authenticated by DMV personnel. Base year plates must have the appropriate year validation sticker attached to the plate to be authenticated as other than the base year (for example, a 1956 plate with a 1958 sticker equals a 1958 plate). This should be all OK outside of California (we will see), in California, maybe not so much! ?
  10. Doing more looking, from the 'Dodge B-Series Trucks Restorer's & Collector's Reference Guide and History' it would seem the Stromberg is the way to go, if it is the correct model. Gong to get it soaking and see if I can get it moving. Also need to determine exact model.
  11. Just can not leave well enough alone, made a pack plate for extra strength and to protect the back side of the plate.
  12. Added '48' tag for the front plate, time to put this to bed! DONE
  13. While I have read about the failures, stalling, diluted fuel, etc. Wondering, (always thinking) - I like the look of the glass bowl on the Mechanical Pump. Is it possible to 'disable and seal' it, use an electric pump and just pass through, and still use the screen filter and glass bowl? Ever been done, or will I be the First? ?
  14. Well the unknown 'should' have a number here I would think..... The Carter is a DTE2, kits are available..... The Stromberg, which I will get soaking! Only has these numbers, not sure just what it is..... I was wondering about those old mechanical pumps, I do like the look but not (from what I have read), the reliability. Is it possible to have a frame mounted pump and 'push' fuel through a non-operative engine mounted pump? Remove the rocker arm and WA-LA? The best of both worlds, reliable electric pump and the looks of the glass bowl!! BTW, I did confirm, the 'unknown' was on the original engine, so YES, the linkage issue using a different one, not unsurmountable just a pain.
  15. Going through parts to determine which carburetor I should be using with the B1D rebuild, according to the parts book the 1317-261 is used on my series/model, and I think that is what this is, Not sure who makes it, there is no markings whatsoever (except Made In USA). I am also not sure what engine this may have com off, since there have been about four. Probably the stock engine. I also have this Carter Carburetor, which look like it is the 1317-256,58,59 and this Stromberg which came off the Dodge Car engine These are the associated pumps and a stand-alone filter which is listed for use on my series/model, but only shown on the dual carb setup. The pumps, again only show Made In USA, no manufacturer? Does anyone know the manufacturer and model of the 1317-261 carburetor shown above, would like to start to rebuild it, same question for the associated pump? The first two appear to be identical the third seems to be a bit different. Any reason to use one of the other carburetors shown as opposed to the one the book calls for? Has anyone seen the use of this filter on a single carb setup? The lower butterfly valve on the Stromberg is rusted solid, any suggestions on loosening it with doing damage to the shaft, butterfly or body? I also see serious differences in the linkage setup, not really sure what to do? ? Thanks
  16. Well other than Yamaha 2-Stroke Twins, we are in the same boat, I am just sending off about 260 slides to be scanned from when I started this in the late 80's (don't ask, I don't have a good reason), so I can start a thread of my own. ?
  17. Just wondering if you have a build thread going, my block is at the shop for hot tanking and magnafluxing, would like to follow along with a current engine build.
  18. I will definitely grab one of these $15.99 !! CENTRAL PNEUMATIC - 20 Oz. HVLP Gravity Feed Air Spray Gun I am guessing you are talking the Quart cans?
  19. Thanks for all the comments and leads, I have not found either a A Chilton motor manual for my year or the Motors Manual of the right year span, Will keep looking. I did compile a good bit of information from here and other sources and posted it in the download section....... Assembly of Engine

  24. Wondering if there are any other good reference books available for the rebuilding of the Dodge L engines? I have the 1948-1949 Dodge Truck B-1 Series Shop Manual, The 1941-1947 Dodge WC Truck Engine and Clutch Rebuild Manual (3/4 ton and 1 1/2 ton military manual) and the Dodge B-Series Trucks-Restorer's & Collector's Reference Guide & History. If anyone has any other items they would like to share or point me in the direction of it would be appreciated. Block is in the shop getting hot tanked and magnafluxed, so hopefully in a month or two will be getting on the rebuild. Thanks
