NICE, I don't see the switch, but I get what you are doing. Always wondered about that WISH site, prices seem too good to be true sometimes. Looks like you scored.

Response from Terrill, all piece meal, so hard to compare at this point. Need to get a list together before any decision is made...... We have everything needed to rebuild your engine and we sell each item individually . We don't sell it in a kit form. If you can let us know which parts you require , we can tell you price and availability. We will need to know what size you need on the main bearings, rod bearings and pistons. THANKS, Feltz Terrill

Need Machine Shop Recommendations Colo.
billrigsby replied to billrigsby's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
Do you have contact information, my girlfriend is in Pueblo so I am there a lot, might be convenient. -
Did the character color (black) today, hoping one of the local H/W stores got clear in today, there is a shortage of everything, even rattle can paint? Have one small area that had some kind of reaction, it will eventually be the base color (yellow), so I am not too worried yet. May try some wet sanding before the clear. ?

I received a response to my email surprisingly quickly,, see below. It doesn't look like I'll be getting a build sheet anytime soon oh well. Hello Bill, Thank you for contacting the FCA Historical Archives. At this time, we are unable to do the research needed to answer your request, due to corporate guidelines, and have limited physical access to the archival records. We are able to answer requests where we can remotely access the materials. While we cannot provide a timeframe as to when we will be able to assist you, I would expect that it will be towards the end of the year, but there is no target date at this time. Thank you for your understanding on this matter. We look forward to being able to help our customers in the future. Regards, Danielle Szostak-Viers Danielle, thank you for the quick reply. I appreciate the information you were able to provide, is it a fair assumption that my request will be kept on file and fulfilled at a later date? Thanks again and have a wonderful day, Bill Hello Bill, I have about 700 requests that have come in during this time, so I may not be able to save this request and return a response when I return. It would be best if you could contact me at the beginning of the year to see if we have returned to the office full time. I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. Please let me know if you have any questions. Danielle Szostak-Viers FCA Historical Services CIMS 410-11-21 12501 Chrysler Freeway Detroit, MI 48288

Need Machine Shop Recommendations Colo.
billrigsby replied to billrigsby's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
Thanks guys, I guess I should not 'discount' Denver so quick, for a machine shop you are not going into the rioting and decrepit downtown area. Fort Collins is a haul, but Is New Belgium open? That may make it worthwhile. LOL -
Should have mentioned, but in this context may not matter, going with the T306 23" 218ci Dodge Truck B-3-B, B-4-B 1951-1953 with 230ci innards. Speed parts are OK 'as long as they are inside', engine from the outside must be stock vehicle is too original to have 'headers and dual carbs' no matter how COOL it would look. Not opposed to maxing out the block, shaving the head, etc. May get both 23"ers magnafluxed, so I know if I have a spare, but the engine will probably outlast me. ?

While I am waiting on machine costs and deciding where to take the block(s). Suggestion for rebuild kit suppliers? Sent Terrill Machine an email just now for price and availability. Egge Pistons? DO230M49-52 Dodge 230 6cyl 1949-52 $1991.68 Egge Clegg Engine? CR230MK Chrysler L-6 230-CID Master Engine Rebuild Kit, 1933-1960 $752.10 Clegg Others? edit.... Egge Pistons $1991.68 Clegg Engine $752.10 What a price difference? We'll see what Terrill comes in at!

Yeah, I don't trust my hands and a thinner, I think sanding will be safer. I have seen several websites doing the thinner and hand painting. Just not the sanding method, which seems safer (to me). Again, time will tell.

Thanks, that is what I thought about the clear, one was near perfect, except for the paint, one had dings and dents, we'll see how it all comes out.

YOM plate restoration odyssey
billrigsby replied to lostviking's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
I found the old post interesting and some good info and links. Not sure about the solvent vs wet sanding methods. Also not sure still about the 'clear' layers, but as posted in my plate thread that is the route I will go. Do not trust my hand/solvent. ? Ready for character color this week. ? -
A bit of spot putty and sanding, ready for the character color (black), still not sure about the clear. Going with 5-6 light black coats and then 5-6 light clear coats. My guess is, the clear will give you that extra buffer, before you go through the character color and into the primer?

I have read this over a few times, Just started mine. Wondering a couple of things..... Where did you find this technique, seems so simple and foolproof vs. masking or hand painting? Do you know the reasoning for the clear and is it "white, clear, white, clear, etc or white, white, clear, clear? I am thinking white, white, clear, clear My base will have to be black, ready to start just want to be clear of the order. Hope they come out half as good as yours. -

Worked on the 1948 Tag tonight, new plates were not issued in 1948 due to steel shortages from WWII. I understand what lostviking was talking about 'painting the letters', may enlist the kid to redo this, she's the artist. ?

Got them primered, no need to worry about rust, NOW the imperfections show ? need to find a good paint match for the yellow. (Pantone 116C)

Well, finally got up the nerve and cojones to take the bead blaster to my 1947 License plates. Went through all my parts, got them all reorganized and waiting for engine machining quotes, needed something to do. Here are the steps so far.....

I could not find a form on their website, just a fax and mailing address. "Historical Services: Due to the high volume of requests, Historical Services requests that all inquiries be submitted by mail or fax. With all requests, please provide your name, contact information and specific request. A confirmation email or letter will not be sent." A fax would no go (no answer), so I mailed it. Just sent her an email though, with all the information requested on that form you provided. Time will tell.
