  1. So I opened up the paint booth today. Was a balmy 55 degrees out. There were no bugs injured in the process Actually came out OK, the fenders were total junk. A before pic of the passenger fender, the best one of the two. They are still rough, they are stronger now then when they were new ... I love them. I will work them over before I put final paint on them .... I see a few dents already that I classify as character and will be left alone.

  3. With 6v bulbs and relays you should be ready to start installation. Get a good ratcheting crimper, a bunch of butt splices and a spool of 12g wire so you can modify the harness as needed. Yes, getting high current off the ignition and headlight switch is a prime reason to do the upgrade. https://tinyurl.com/558cus9s

  4. Think it depends on which fitting we are talking about. The vacuum advance technically has 3 fittings and 3 different threads. The middle adapter I believe is NPT threads like @Plymouthy Adams suggest, then standard lines will thread to that .... the carburetor has the same adapter and believe a good hardware store would have them.

  5. No clip on any of the dozen that I’ve rebuilt. I believe that the arms rigidity within the vacuum advance makes it hard to jump off.

  6. Sure, but he didn't mention doing that when putting it to bed, and I am of the mindset that it is better late than never. The oil that spashes up on cylinder walls is mostly scraped off by the rings, so the remaining film is (relatively) quick to evaporate off. The only downside is that it can be a little messy, smokey and, in theory, an etra cost ( but who here doesnt have an odd quart or two of sacrificial oil, you know, that 0w20 you have nothing to run in?)

  8. Our D24 sits for at least 6 months here for the winter. I do the same as all the responses so far. In addition, just before I park the car for the winter, I add fuel stabilizer and make sure it has run throughout the system. And already knowing I'll have to crank it a bit before it starts, I'll do that until I see oil pressure. If it hasn't started by the time the oil pressure shows up, I'll put some gas down the carb that has some Marvel Mystery Oil added. I don't just pour it in with abandon, though, I kind of tease the engine until the fuel pump catches up and it starts on its own. My thought is that putting too much "raw" gas down the carb cleans too much oil from the cylinders. That could probably be debunked, but that's just how I've always done it.

  9. UPDATE; Installation of 6v H4 bulbs in the ridiculously cheap Toyota headlights In posts earlier in this thread I detailed installation of 6v headlight relays in my '48 P15. The Toyota headlight upgrade kit arrived and I swapped out the included 12v H4 bulbs for 6v H4 bulbs I sourced on Amazon. I installed the right headlight so comparison can be made to the 6006 halogen sealed beam currently in the car. Installation was straightforward but some may not like how the new lens protrudes from the chrome trim ring. The lenses are "European" style and look great on my TR6 and '69 Beetle but are more obvious on the Plymouth. I think I will like the better lighting enough to tolerate the new look(new light on left side of photo). I haven't fine-tuned aiming but here are some side-by-side comparisons, new light on right side of photos. The modern beam cutoff pattern is very evident on low beam when compared to the old "round" pattern. It throws more light on the road in front of the car and also up and to the right for road signs while keeping the beam away from oncoming traffic. It actually extends coverage low and to the left of the original sealed beam. The H4 bulb is higher wattage (55w/60w) than the old 6006, this photo gives some indication of the greater output. The car is driven at night so this is a good upgrade at a very attractive price. I'll have a more complete impression after the other new reflector is installed and aiming is refined.
