knuckleharley Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 My daily driver for the time being in a 07 Altima. Since I have to make a 60 mile round trip to buy a sparkplug and drive 165 miles to see the docs at the VA hospital,I have to pay homage to the gas mileage Gawds. My real daily driver has been and will once again be my 48 Plymouth Club Coupe. Assuming of course that I ever manage to throw enough 100 bills at it to finish the rebuild and get it both reliable and looking good. Have a little better than 7 grand in the rebuild so far,and not a nickel for bodywork, paint, engine,or transmission. Started with all new brake lines and hoses, new gas line, new wheel bearings, etc, etc, etc. Car has a 78 Camaro frame clip and a 350/350. It will look just like this on the outside when it when it is done, but without the rust, cracked glasses, bad chrome, etc, etc, etc. I like the way it looks including the color, and see no reason to change it. Here is my 37 Dodge truck that I use to haul trash with and pull my car trailer. It has a 390 Ford engine in it and burns so much gas I don't drive it all that much. Here is my current project and future daily driver. I'm keeping the flat 6 in it but changing the transmission for a 3 speed manual floor shift from a 48 Dodge pu. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 Hello Jim (48mirage). That looks like the picture I took the day I stopped by your place of work. Looks like my Caravan in the background. Bob Quote

PatS.... Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 1988 Dodge Ram half ton pick me up. $400 4 years ago, only some fuel system troubles. (Thanks Tim) Most people around here pay $400+ a month in payments so gas prices are still cheap to me. Trouble free in winter and if anyone hits it, I don't care. Quote
knuckleharley Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 My DD is my 48 dodge business coupe Man,that thing sure is pretty! Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Hey Pat...nice truck for the money...I went out to the barn and started my Ramcharger up and drove it to the backyard...(this is referred to as "doing a Norm") anyway...that ole truck keeps p[urring right along..shame I let it sit as long as I do between driving it..it stays licensed and insured..and parked most of the time..but what a smoothie on the road... Quote
PatS.... Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Thanks Tim, it was an older couples tow vehicle for the travel trailer. Sat in the backyard all year. Only 75,000 miles on it when I got it. The paint peeling bums me out a bit but they all did it. Even has working A/C. Other than the saga with the fuel last year that you helped with, it hasn't missed a beat. Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 Knuckle......is looks like you just need a few more old cars in your fleet. You don't see many Ramblers around here.....that wagon doesn't look too bad. Quote
Guest 51plymouthod Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 DD is 1996 V-6 Camry bought new. 220,000 current miles. The '51 Cambridge is on jack-stands as I find the time to complete the transition to disc brakes using the Scarebird adapter. When you're an overweight 62 year old who works full-time, you're (or I'm) too tired or not motivated enough to become an old-car mechanic except on Saturdays. The B-1-C is driven at least once weekly and we'll take the Plymouth on several extended-length picnics with our grandson this summer. Quote
knuckleharley Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 Knuckle......is looks like you just need a few more old cars in your fleet. You don't see many Ramblers around here.....that wagon doesn't look too bad. I may have a fleet, but I ain't so fleet myself these days. Getting old and need to thin the herd down to the stuff I want to work on and keep for myself. I bought the Rambler and rebuilt the original OHV 6,and only put about 300 miles on it before I found a 32 Ford coupe sitting in a garage 25 miles from me. Guess what? The Rambler ended up sitting and not getting repainted and the other stuff I had planned because all my money went into my 32. Then I found the 33 Dodge 4dr,the 34 Ford pu,the 38 ford humpback tudor, the 48 Plymouth coupe, the 42 Dodge business coupe, the 37 Dodge 1 ton,the 33 Plymouth coupe, etc, etc, etc, and the poor old Rambler is still sitting. Hell,I even stopped working on the 32 coupe to be able to spend money fixing my 48 Plymouth coupe. It's easier for me to get in and out of,and the trunk is big enough I can take my walker with me when I go somewhere. Getting old ain't for sissies. Quote
greg g Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 Well over the weekend and today I had my 78 Kawasaki KZ 650 out and about. Cost me 12.50 for a tank of mid grade gas. So if it still gets 44 MPG, thats 11 better than its nearest rival the Jetta Wagon. If this keeps up, I gonna have to drag the Bug Eye Sprite out of the shed and get it's little 1275 heart beating. I hear you can put a Nissan 5 speed OD in there and get nearly 55 MPG with that setup. Transmission is going off to have a refresh kit put into it, then I will get all the mechanical stuff done on the Studebaker truck project. The wife's Subaru is now getting about 25 MPH running around town and our Jeep is now utility duty only with it's 17 to 18 mpg. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 Greg..years ago I repainted a 68 Spitfire for a young girl...the car had the Datsun 510 setup installed. It was a real nice install..very smooth... Quote
