Arthur1947 Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 [/img] Here's mine. A 63 Falcon Futura with a 260 v8. Three on the tree. Had it for about nine years and put about 5 miles a day. Best. ARTHUR Quote
greg g Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 Sharp lookin little Furd. Our next door neighbor had one like that in dark blue. He then traded it for a 65 sprint hardtop with the 289 hipo and a 4 speed, in yellow with black trim. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 Our DD's are pretty mundane...'01 Taurus, '98 Lumina sedan, and a '94 Villager. All with well over 100,000 miles. Coming home from work today (I got a job, yahoo!) I saw a fully and nicely restored Renault Dauphine in heavy rush hour traffic. A 'substantial' old car is one thing, but I think its foolish to expose something as small and fragile as the Renault to the hazards of commuter traffic. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 I have to admit. When I first saw this thread posted by Alaska48 my first thought was, "Who cares?". After all the responses though I've found it both interesting and encouraging. Because I'm not on the road all the time anymore and my wife is retired, we really don't need two cars, much less two newer ones. What interesting and encouraging is the fact that so many are driving their old cars as daily drivers. Over the past year, I've mentioned to the wife that since I only put a few thousand miles on the van each year maybe I should just get rid of it and drive the coupe for myself. Then when she needs another car we buy her a new one instead of me. Have since decided though to keep my 95 Lumina Van and do a little updating on it. Then at the same time drive the coupe more as a daily driver. The van is nice to keep around, especially if you need to haul something that won't fit in a car. By doing so it will also keep money free that I would have spent buying another newer modern car, which can go into the van and coupe. You can buy a lot of parts for the cost of a new car. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 Norm..just the cost saving in insurance and property taxes compared to a new car will go a long way maintaining an older car. My 13 tags I buy are on the average less than one for a new car in this area..property tax is a killer ..then if you consider that the state collects 7% sales tax from a sales (dealer) that is quite a bit also..SC, my former state collected 7% not to exceed 300.00 per transaction..but collected every time it changed ownership..here in Georgia..no slaes tax on private party slaes...each state has its pros and cons Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 Tim, Georgia sounds like Kentucky. They have what they call an annual road tax down there and is based on the value of the car registered, plus the cost of their license plates each year. However, here in Wisconsin its just a flat $65 license fee each year (for now anyway). They are talking about an additional $10 per year for Milwaukee county to help pay for the cost of public transportation. So really, it's not that much of a savings for plates each year. But.........its a big savings when you consider what even a cheap new car cost today, plus the sales taxes on it. There is a savings also on the insurance as you mentioned. By the way. Up here you even have to pay sales tax when you buy the car from an individual when you apply for your plates and title. If the state feels you didn't pay the going rate for the car, they come back with a letter and ask for the sales tax on the average selling price, even though you may not have paid that much. In order to get around that you then need to get a sworn statement from the seller explaining why he sold the car so cheap. If it was due to the car being in bad shape they will ask for pictures. If the state accepts that, then you don't have to pay the extra sales tax. Can be a real headache. Quote

Alaska48 Posted May 9, 2008 Author Report Posted May 9, 2008 I have to admit. When I first saw this thread posted by Alaska48 my first thought was' date=' "Who cares?"....[/quote']Its funny, I will be the first to admit I do tend to do a lot of "who cares/ go-look-it -up threads" but I truley believe in massive forum user interaction. In the past several years with whatever car/truck I've owned, I've always found an online forum to talk with other people with the same vehicle. Its an automatic bond that you and the other users already share.... A forced friendship because we hold something in common. I feel the threads created don't always have to be about the forum cars... Its threads like this that make the forum both more active and more fun... Everybody's favorite thing is to talk about themselves... all they need is some encouragement with a topic they can respond to and whammo, instant thread success. It could be a funny situation like the "wifely duties" thread posted by Ed last week, or just everyone posting a thread on their current gas prices or their tank fill up prices.... its really just fun stuff to talk about, make the day go by and gives everyone an opportunity to respond to. but thats just my opinion on it. Some people have the feeling of this being straight P15/D24 talk only. I think it just takes the fun out of being in an interactive forum to not go out of the scope of the normal talk. Quote
Alaska48 Posted May 9, 2008 Author Report Posted May 9, 2008 Pete- I'm in love with that FJC, are you on the cruiser forum too? Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 I truley believe in massive forum user interaction. Some people have the feeling of this being straight P15/D24 talk only. Believe me I go off topic more than most. I also do a search to see if a subject has been brought up before in recent history. Follow this link. http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=7316 Quote
blueskies Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 Pete you still own both those beauties? Yup... No hurry to sell, but if the right deal comes along... I found a couple of nice Willys wagons that I'd love to have ... Pete-I'm in love with that FJC, are you on the cruiser forum too? Yes, same user name, but I mostly read there. Not much to contribute really. My FJC is just like everyone else's other than being a TRD SE. And I have not done any mods other than a Lucrum winch mount and Warn M8000 winch. New car forums lose their luster pretty quickly for me because there really isn't anything going on other than what aftermarket trinkets you can buy to bling out the rig. Believe me I go off topic more than most. I also do a search to see if a subject has been brought up before in recent history. Follow this link. Funny, I don't even remember that thread... and I posted the same pics... Must be getting CRS. Pete Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 The "off topic" subject has been discussed here a time or two before. Some wanted to stick strictly to the cars and closely related stuff. Many said they didn't mind (and even enjoyed) the off topic items....that they felt it keeps things more interesting and lively. I've noticed that they do off topic posts of various kinds on the HAMB also.....like "what's in your driveway?", or "what's the stupidest thing you ever pulled while working in your garage/shop"? I like off topic stuff, and am guilty of posting them myself.....so let's carry on and enjoy the forum, which IS the best around. Even my cat likes this place. Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 One other quick note. When an off topic thread is started most folks prefer to see the letters "OT" in the subject or title line. That way if they are not interested in off topic stuff they can skip over that thread. Quote
Young Ed Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 We did have our own thread of stupid garage antics. I was a big contributor! http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=7831&highlight=exacto+knife Quote
Alaska48 Posted May 9, 2008 Author Report Posted May 9, 2008 Two fatal flaws... I will ensure correcting them, I did do it right last night, I was going to start a frappr map, but found out that someone did, so I bumped the thread up. I will keep in mind the (OT) notation on my threads. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 I really don't see where it matters if one starts a new thread, or roots through the archives and boots it up front again. After all, we see all kinds of posts, both Off Topic and On Topic being posted over and over again. Bottom line. It takes too long to search almost 7,000 Posts and over 60,000 threads. That said, I do think more people should use the reference section. If their answer is in there, they'll get it quicker. Quote

Don, Thats easily done. I just got the numbers reversed. Was also just using the numbers from the P15-D24 section of the forum in the index. Wasn't counting the other sections. Quote
BeBop138 Posted May 10, 2008 Report Posted May 10, 2008 I have a 94 Honda Accord for going to work and a 72 Poncho Wagon as a parts hauler when I go to the junk yards, it also is used for back up when one of the others breaks down---the wife likes our 02 Avalanche. On occasion I will drive the 52 Windsor or the 37 Chev streetrod to work. My old cars are my new cars!!! Quote
