Normspeed Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 This one would be a long download for anyone on dial up, I know because it took forever to upload on my dialup. But for a faster connection, hop in, buckle up and let's get all nascar on some poor Winnebago! http://s95.photobucket.com/albums/l144/nhcarter1/Videos/?action=view¤t=e6ceac54.pbr No pedestrians were harmed in the making of this documentary. Tony Cipponeri Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 Norm, Your car still sounds real good. Tony C Quote
Normspeed Posted April 14, 2008 Author Report Posted April 14, 2008 Good gosh, that thing takes forever to load! I guess I need to work on my videos a bit more. Here's a link to the segment I like best: Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 Those are neat videos. Your rig sounds great. Dennis Quote
steveplym Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 Neat video Norm. Going 70 in an old car is "fun, fun, fun!" Quote
greg g Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 According to the timer on your 0 to 70 run is just about 15 seconds. Not to shabby......sounds great. Quote
TodFitch Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 Your car sure accelerates faster than my 1933. Your video looks very smooth. How did you mount the camera so that the video would not bounce around as you drove over the typical bumps and imperfections in the pavement? Quote
Normspeed Posted April 14, 2008 Author Report Posted April 14, 2008 Thanks. I put the camera on a regular tripod, behind the passenger seat, legs apart for stability, and secured it to the seat with a couple of bungee cords. Had to close the right side windows, the wind noise was causing the noise canceling mike to turn itself down. Quote
thedahmer Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 Is that a RADAR detector on the dash??? Quote
mackster Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Nice going Normspeed! glad to see you terrorizing the neighborhood! You can be the next Ron Howard with your camera skills! Quote
John Mulders Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 normally not a back seat driver Thanks for the ride ! John Quote
martybose Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Norm,I am curious about two things. 1. Where is the switch located that I'm assuming you must have pushed to disengage the OD when going from 2nd OD to 3rd direct? 2. Does your tranny have the standard or the "high speed" second gear? Marty Quote
Normspeed Posted April 15, 2008 Author Report Posted April 15, 2008 Thedahmer, no radar detector, it's the antenna for my XM boombox. Marty, the OD thumb switch is ugly but it works great. The wiring is simple, I used a heavy duty switch and the wiring is inline between the rail lockout switch and the governor. When flipped inwards (OD in) it acts as a normal OD. When flipped outwards (OD out) the OD will not engage. I have, as far as I know, the standard second gear. Rear gear is a 4.10. Quote
blueskies Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Norm- Tell us more about your exhaust... maybe you have already and I missed it? Sounds great. Pete Quote
knuckleharley Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Damn! I have GOT to get my 42 Dodge in my shop and get it running! I can't wait to hear that sweet sound in person. Quote
knuckleharley Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 BTW,what kind of mufflers are you using? Quote
Normspeed Posted April 15, 2008 Author Report Posted April 15, 2008 It's a split stock exhaust manifold, two downpipes, they go into a collector, then 2 1/4" pipe all the way back with a single Flowmaster muffler just in front of the rear axle. I love it. It's loud though. One of the guys recently went with something similar and found it too loud for his liking. Maybe Shel? I think it will mellow out a little inside when (if) I get carpet, pad, headliner and door gaskets installed. The Flowaster is supposed to have a scavenging effect on the exhaust gases. Quote

Thanks. I have been planning on running split cast iron manifolds too,but I was planning on running a dual exhaust Quote
Normspeed Posted April 16, 2008 Author Report Posted April 16, 2008 I was planning on duals too, until I heard this setup in a GMC 6 pickup truck at a local cruise. I'd never heard a 6 sound like that one. I flagged the guy down as he was leaving and got the name of the local shop that did his setup. Another trick I've heard of if you like duals is to run one pipe through a glasspack and one straight pipe. All depends on how much racket you like to make. I like a lot. Quote

I'm going for a 50's hot rod look with my Dodge coupe, and want the twin chrome tailpipe extensions coming out from under the bumper. Quote
