A lady told me today that on her recent trip to Chicago, she saw a bunch

ol nice looking old cars at a place very near Staunton, Ill. She said they

were near exit 41 off Hwy 55. Is a building with a show room and lots

of cars sitting around. Sounds interesting....an antique car dealership I

suppose. Anyone familiar with it???

I've seen their ads online. They have a website with all the cars displayed. Of course I can't remember it at the moment.

on the average this place has a good selection in various stages of roadability...would be a nice stip over if in the area for sure..they advertise in the Round Up or should I say used to..I have not subscribed in years..

I would CAREFULLY check the car condition - make sure someone looks at the car before you buy. Just hearsay, but I have heard their descriptions can be a good bit optimistic when it comes to things like rust.

You may be very well correct but I wouldn't probably look at this place for something to fix up as much as I would look at it as a place to source something almost done and then push it over the edge without spending a lot of money. Nothing like having a solid project to start with right?

Check this one out. I've been watching it.... too much for my wallet but sure would make a nice daily driver.

I drove right by the place last fall on the way home from Branson, MO and didn't even slow down. Wife ask if I wanted to stop and look at the cars. There were lots of cars sitting on the lot. However, I was in my non stop mode. Had left Branson that morning and wanted to make it home without spending another night in a motel. Five or six nights in a hotel/motel are enough for me. So........kept on moving.

Anyway, I had seen their website before and they also sell on ebay. Figured they didn't have anything I was interested in.

When homeward bound, I always go by this song. Even if it's from the eastern seaboard area.

“Six Days on the Road”

Well, I pulled out of Pittsburgh,

Well, I pulled out of Pittsburgh,

Rollin' down the Eastern Seaboard.

I've got my diesel wound up,

And she's running like never before.

There's a speed zone ahead, all right,

I don't see a cop in sight.

Six days on the road and I'm gonna make it home tonight.

I got ten forward gears,

And a Georgia overdrive.

I'm taking little white pills,

And my eyes are open wide.

I just passed a 'Jimmy' and a 'White':

I've been passin' everything in sight.

Six days on the road and I'm gonna make it home tonight.

Well, it seems like a month,

Since I kissed my baby good-bye.

I could have a lot of women,

But I'm not like some other guys.

I could find one to hold me tight,

But I could never believe that it's right.

Six days on the road and I'm gonna make it home tonight.

I.C.C. is checking on down the line.

I'm a little overweight and my log's three days behind.

But nothing bothers me tonight.

I can dodge all the scales all right,

Six days on the road and I'm gonna make it home tonight.

Well my rig's a little old,

But that don't mean she's slow.

There's a flame from her stack,

And the smoke's rolling black as coal.

My hometown's coming in sight,

If you think I'm happy your right.

Six days on the road and I'm gonna make it home tonight.

Six days on the road and I'm gonna make it home tonight.

Six days on the road and I'm gonna make it home tonight.

Interesting additions to that 51. Never seen one with chrome around the wheels or those chrome pieces at the back of the fender. Car is possibly from a warmer climate since it has the cheapy heater.

For sure Tim. The exterior ones look good. The dash not good at all. Stick with a color!

Bob Just noticed an additional thing. Has weird front door/fender trim. Not supposed to be any trim on the door.

That door and fender trim looks like it might be a bumper strip like they put on 70's and 80's cars. You can buy that by the roll at JC Whitney and various other places. It's chrome plated on the outer edges and the center part comes in various colors to match the car. Just peel off the backing tape and stick it on. Protects the side body of the car when someone opens their door and hits your car, or at least its supposed to protect it. Also comes in various widths.

I understand they charge an admission fee to look around. It is "cheerfully refunded" or creditied to your purchase should make one.

Wonder if t hey charge for pictures? jeez, is it just me or does it seem weird that they charge? Around here we have some places and you can just walk around and see what you want. No pressure. BTW if you plan to go anywhere PLEASE do not buy without seing the car personally and test driving it. I heard some horror stories before...

I was also going to say that side trim on front fender and door is probably

the stick-on stuff. Also note the silver trim along the fender openings...

that would be stick-on. And the silver strip down the middle of the hood.

One person's idea of what makes a car look good......

They have quite variety in their lot for sure, and many many cars are there for sale (I forgot the particular word for this action) by third party, these guys don't own everything. This means they are not that familiar with all the cars, and are anxious only making quick profit in between.

I bought my D-24 from them, and due to distance between continentals I trusted on photos and phone conversation. I shouldn't have. I wasn't totally fooled, but definately the car was not near what I was told.

BUT surprisingly they were willing to settle a bit when I called back nearly an year after, and sent the original emails and then photos of the true condition "underneath" when I tore it down. That really was an nice gesture, to even take my reclamation into account. They didn't refund serious money, but still enough for new floor pans. Any $ is better than nothing, and for me as an foreign customer the most important thing was their attitude, trying to make things right and both parties happy.

So by the end of the day I would do business again, but like somebody said above, carefully examine yourself or by some impartial what you are buying.

Their reputation is not that great at forums, but at least Clint there is a stand up guy.

And before anybody starts to hallelujah that "why did you buy without seeing thats stupidness blame yourself...etc." I welcome you to live where I do and then try to find your sweetheart, car I mean :P , one has to take risks, sometimes it benefits and sometimes it does not. With taking this risk I now own the only D-24 business coupe in our country. That wouldn't be the case if I acted reasonable.

Risky is my middlename:D

Bought my Pilot House truck there, my first old car/truck purchase. Worked with a guy over the phone a couple of times befor going down there, they were very helpful. I had a good buying experience. It pays to do your homework no matter who you buy from. They have a lot of cars from junkers to nicely done cars, a neat place. It would pay to check with forum members to see who might be close by if you wanted someone to look at something there. Turns out somebody from the Pilot House forum lives in St Louis, MO only about 20 mile from this place and would have been willing to go and look for me.

I bought my 50 Plymouth there, The price was ok and after some horse trading it was a bargain. It needs some work but was complete and running. They will not part out any of the cars, even the junk, so if you need some parts you must buy the whole car. The folks are very "down home" they have over the hill junk all the way up to showroom clean. You could spend a day looking and not see it all. :)
