I would give anything to get my hands on anything with speed racer on it. I had speed racer pajama wall clock cereal bowl everything! When I was going up I would run home to see speed racer and his brother racer X. pops and chim chim, don't know what his mother's name was, Sprital could build a car out of anything and it usually was a model A. Those cars fasinated me so much. I one episode I remember that gave me nightmares was the one with the motor buried at the grave yard it had a number on it does anybody remeber what that number was? It would make the donor car run so fast that you had to drink a potion to help you handle it however it made you very thursty, if you drank water it would make you loose your nerve and you could never drive fast again. Here he comes here comes speed racer........ YEAH!! The Mach 5

I never even heard of Speed Racer until this thread. I am guessing it was a cartoon show on tv? When was it on?

Tim, The early Betty Boop cartoons are really wild. They had to make her skirt longer and tone down content too. Hard to get away with anything risque for very long!! Eric

Speed Racer was in the 70s. Hey Rodney, it was one of my favorites too. I had a Hot Wheels car I used to pretend was the Mach Five. It was Japanese animation and we used to make fun of the way the characters talked. One of the cheapest cartoons ever but for some reason we really liked it.

Wow, you never heard of the mach 5, man that's tough. It's like trying to tell a guy about Rock & Roll. Hey Greg and Joe You can't remember the name of the motor can you! They went to the grave yard and dug it up. You could see on the valve cover The "GRX" They were all shaking. They built a car espcially for that motor. Pop's racer remembered The motor and told speed "not to go near" The motor had killed the builder and was buried with him. Oh and who could forget "Kaballa of Kapetapeck" the great racer that came down from the hills and mountains of Kapettapeck for the big race every 10 years with his spcial car. This is why I and many others have such a love for cars, it was this huge support group of cartoons movies and the like, they stimulate the hobby in all of us, do they have this now sort of, not like the kids in my generation had it:D

Rodney I've never seen a speed racer cartoon either although I have heard of it. Your last part about having a love for cars because of it made me think of something. Now granted growing up there were always old cars around. Mostly flathead powered mopars with a few others in the mix. But also growing up I loved transformers. And most of them were 1/2 robot 1/2 car. So maybe that had an influence too

Let's see I am 48, so if you are not 49 or 50 you would not have seen Speed racer or the 8 man "tobor" the number 8 because number 6 and 7 were not totally successfull. I do remember the transformers and such however by then I was in college and was not looking at much TV. When I did look at tv it was in the form of the new Game "Intellivision" by Mattel I still have my game hooked up to my tv. My mopar was parked outside then and I was living my dream. "Oh the times they are a changing":)

Rodney, did the GRX have something to do with Racer X? I don't remember Kaballa of Kapetapeck. You must have been a hardcore fan. Did you ever watch Johnny Quest? That was my all time favorite, hands down. Also, there was a movie with Humphrey Bogart in it and I think it was called "Lost Patrol" or something like that. It takes place in North Africa in WWII. One of the vehicles in their convoy is a military van like thing. It might have been British. I really loved it as a kid because it was all beat up but it kept running and running and it had everything they needed inside it like cookware and tools. I don't know, it's funny the kinds of stuff that makes you get interested in the old car thing.

Ah, so that's what the C stands for..."Canadian".

You'd have yourself a deal there if you had a 53-54 Plymouth driver side door latch to spare..:)

Normspeed you better send it to me, its got both Canadian and American temps on it, C and F............LOL

Nope, C stands for metric, and Fstands for the right way hehehehehe. I will look for the latch for you first thing in the spring, think I know where one might be...............Fred ps will look for you if you don't find one, you of course don't have to give me your thermometer..............LOL

I am so embarrassed I can't remember what happened last month but I can remember 36 years ago. Racer X was speed racer's older brother, their father kicked him out because he did not want racer X to be a racer when he was young, he did not have anything to do with the "GRX" episode However It turned out that "Kaballa" in that epiosode was played by racer X because Kaballa was killed in a car crash. Kaballa taught Racer X how to race cars many years before on the mountain terrain. He showed up (racerX) and raced in the Kapetakpeck race that not only was a competion but also was used to protected the gold in the Kapetapeck montains. I loved Johhy Quest, Haji was my man, remember that music when it came on. I did remember that Bogart movie. Wow wish I could see it this morning with my fruit loops:p

I never heard of speedracer. In the 70's I was recovering from the 60's. I was much more into hardcore than cartoons:D
I can see that Don

onetime when they played movie clips from woodstock, I thought I saw you in one of those frames, 169 pounds driving a VW bug! :D
