Last weekend I went and saw a friend of mine down in Hunnington Beach who has a 1947 Dodge business coupe. He hadn't seen my car since how it first looked when I had gotten it. We took turns driving each other's cars because he wanted to see what the overdrive was like and I got to try out his fluid drive. I have to admit...that fluid drive is a trip...especially when you can stop and not have to put the clutch in. What was the purpose of fluid drive anyway?

You answered your own question . . . ".. you can stop and not have to put the clutch in."

That was the main theme in Chrysler's advertising and the main idea behind it. It was meant to reduce some of the pain in city driving with its stop-and-go traffic.

We will be caravaning from Riverside that morning and coming home thge next day. You don't have to be a member. For more details go to goldenstate.ply33.com and look under events. Tony C

Fluid drive was Mopar's way of countering the introduction of GM's Hydromatic, dynaflo and packard's ultramatic. It was also touted as being easier for women to drive, and saving stress on the drive train. I learned to drive on a fluid drive dodge. you could just put it in gear and side step the clutch and drive off.

Hi Tony...Norm mentioned to me about a regional club party last Dec. 15th that I was going to go to...that was until the freeze plug popped out later that day. Anyway, the car was in the still in the shop on the day of the shindig, so I missed it. The Lake Havasu event sound s pretty cool. I'll ask Gabe about it, and if he can't go, I will go most likely. Thanks for the invite.

Bill...hmmm, okay, I wasn't sure if had or not. Wasn't too sure if there was more to it. Thanks

Dodgeboy...I don't hit any shows in Orange County because I never know of any. Gabe might, but I know for sure he goes out to some place there in Riverside that's kind of a place where a lot of rockabilly's gather. It's like a bar/nightclub, so to speak. Yeah, I'm sure we can get together because you are local. Nice ride by the way...I like the color. ;)

Tim...check you IM box

Greg...okay, now that makes more sense. I which there was a way to get fluid drive and ovrdrive into one...or is that called automatic transmission?...lol

I believe James Douglas has converted his DeSoto (fluid drive) to three speed plus OD but he is having some difficulties with his OD but they are not related to being mounted behind the fluid drive.

Shouldn't be any reason why a plymouth OD would not fit behind the Dodge fluid drive bellhousing.

I don't know...it sounds great, but too confusing to me...but if it works.

interesting set of speed lines on the front fender of the Dodge...

Yes it is Tim. Reminds me of a Chrysler with those extra spears. You know how you look at a car/truck and picture it with a certain color or theme to paint it? The business coupe here is one way I had thought of possibly trying and am really glad to see it. Don't think I'll go that route after seeing it. Not saying it's bad, just not my cup of tea. To each his own.

Dad and I helped a fellow POC member here but an OD behind his fluid drive 51 dodge.
