Andre05471 Posted July 4 Report Posted July 4 two questions what oil are folks running in a stock 1950 218? any recommendations for electric fuel pump (6v posted) and best location for it? Quote
Cannuck Posted July 4 Report Posted July 4 So I use SAE 10 motor oil my understanding is if your engine has been rebuilt it is safe to use 10W30 detergent oil if not stay with the SAE 10 reason being your oil will stay cleaner longer . The problem being a detergent oil will break up all the crap in these old engines. I have a electric fuel pump close to the fuel tank and it is the type that can be used as a full time pump or as an occasional assistance pump to lets say to help start the car . Quote
plymouthcranbrook Posted July 5 Report Posted July 5 (edited) Regarding oil 10 seems to be an awfully light oil. Especially in warm weather. Did you miss write your answer. I use regular 10w-40 oil in my 52 Plymouth and have good pressure with no usage issues. Edited July 5 by plymouthcranbrook Quote
Sniper Posted July 5 Report Posted July 5 I use Regular old 10w30 detergent oil In my 51, Sae 10 is the wrong viscosity oil. If you are going to use a straight weight oil use 30 1 Quote
moparfun Posted July 5 Report Posted July 5 On the 54 Plaza wagon I placed the electric fuel pump inside the frame rail on the left side. Quote

desoto1939 Posted July 5 Report Posted July 5 I currently use Castrol GTX Classic 20/50 in my 39 Desoto. The engine has been rebuilt. I use this because this il has a very high amt of ZINC and phosphorus and Boron for our older cars. It CAN NOT again IT CAN NOT be used in modern cars that have catalytic convertor, it will run the convertor. I did a posting on this oil awhile back and received the amounts from Castrol's Tech services department. You can get this oil from Amazon and sometime WalMart. Attached is the information from Castrol and also EGGE regarding ZDDP for your reading a files.
