Howdy folks,

I'm in search of the part number for my 1947 WHA-48 2 ton Dodge truck, but I cannot seem to find it online or in the service manual.  Would anyone be able to pass along a part number as I want to make certain I buy the correct rebuild kit or master cylinder?  I need to replace as the fluid leaks out and the brake pedal goes to the floor.

Thanks,

Roman

I would check out DCM Classics, I see they have the kit or a new MC for 1947 1.5 ton - 2.5 ton

Might want to disassemble yours and check the bore, see how much it will need to be honed to be able to seal again.

My 1/2 ton truck looked pretty good so I honed it good and installed a kit .... bled the brakes and felt good, then stomped on it and went straight to the floor.

Just honed it to much and bore was too large.

I did the Toyota MC swap, I believe it has a 1" bore in it which is the same as my 1/2 ton.

There was a guy a few years ago that had a larger truck 1 ton or larger and he said it worked fine and had great brakes with it.

Looks like yours may have a 1.25 bore so a 1" would be a bad idea ..... I would want to open it up and see.

Others that want to do the very best they can, will send the original MC out to be sleeved and professionally rebuilt.

A new one looks like $250 .... same money you may be able to get yours rebuilt with a new Stainless steel sleeve.... some think that would be better.

Your truck has a 1-1/2" M/cyl. bore.

It looks pretty ugly.

I doubt it you can safely hone the deep pitting in it.

I say sleeve it if new is not available...especially on a heavy truck.

I plan to take it apart this weekend and take a look inside.  I will post a few pics here afterwards.

The MC on Rockauto is 1.25", so I will look to see if they have a larger one.  Just glancing at the webpage, I can't find any Dodge truck with a 251cid engine which is what I have in my 2 ton.  I'll keep searching though.

Thanks for the knowledge, it's much appreciated.

Check for a casting number.  Often that number correlates directly to a Wagner number.  Some of the box stores may  have the old illustrated parts books as well a section in it that may list rebuild cups by size.

I looked in my W-series parts list book. and the 2ton, 1.500” bore, 3 bolt master cylinder is 696383. That crosses to a Raybestos MC785. The best price that I saw was @RockAuto.com, $192. VPW has a 1.500”bore, but I think it’s a 4 bolt. I have a 47 that I bought for parts. It has a 251 with sodium exhaust valves, six bolt wheels and five speed transmission. It was a grain truck from Lind,WA. It had a straight stack exhaust with a box collector. The box filled with dust that ended up mostly in the rear cylinders. It’s a T120 block. Rick D.

Here's a couple of photos.  It doesn't seem pitted at all, so even though I have a new one ready to install, I think I will rebuild this one as a spare.

Installed the MC per your recommended part number and my truck now stops on a dime.  Gonna have the old one sleeved and rebuilt as a spare.  Now on to installing new 8.25x20's.

Thanks!

It’s nice to know that it worked out for you, for your MC.
