17th Annual Clements Tailgate, in Clements California BBQ

Recommended Posts

Re-reading my post I realize I’m giving the impression that I’m not satisfied with the Rusty Hope kit. Nothing could be further from the truth. I would recommend it to anyone. Just be aware it’s not a true bolt-on, no modification approach. For example, there is some machining to do.

I didn’t think it was too difficult when I did my Rusty Hope upgrade. If you have access to a good drill press you can drill and tap the spindles without much issue. If not you’ll have to rely on a shop to do that. I think the spindle nuts gave me the most grief, but I made it work.

I woke up from a dream that I was there but unfortunately I will not come true for me this year. I'm having some issues with my charging system and though it seems like a silly reason, this year we have no pet sitter for either Paco our African Grey, or Blanca's latest "Jasper" a baby squirell that fell out of the nest that she has been rehabilitating. In my dream I was there with everyone and all our trucks, and I got to give Tim a big Huggy Bear hug. It's going to have to wait. I am going to miss everyone for sure, but here's hoping it won't be the last and hope you all have the best time ever.

Missing everyone,

Hank

Still having fun with my truck :

Lol, and we have collectively solved the “ b-series” horn button removal scenario

Is it time yet?

Burning questions for the year:

“….2).will JT have any more cool camping stuff to show off”

JT was seen roughing it again this year

IMG_7929.jpeg.687d0d32c9f2ff754cb7b52530de9f74.jpegthe next day, I spotted some pranksters goofing around his truck. Using his truck as a comparison template 😁

Don’t worry John, I spotted them hightailing it out of there afterwards, 😂

Another great BBQ by looking at the pics. Any other weekend and the roads over the mountain would have been clear of snow. What rotten luck.

We always get at least one or two orphan makes at this event each year. Jim's brother's silver Kaiser showed up again, and below is Charlie's '55 Nash, with body design by Pininfarina of Torino. I really enjoyed this car.

AMC's thrifty 195-6. Note: no intake manifold.

The exhaust "manifold" is just a steel pipe with cutouts bolted to the block.

"OD" as he's known, about to head out in his '93 Cummins, back to Escalon.

There was also a similar or equal year truck that showed up, a dualie (no photo, unfortunately). The two owners connected, and an exchange of parts is planned in the near future.

Yup, between 65 and 70. When I had earplugs in, I tended to go faster, haha....

John-T-53, thanks for all the pictures. I’m sure a lot of us would like to make the tailgate and BBQ. Just not practical for most. However, your pictures really let those of us who can’t make it live vicariously through your pictures. The most and best of the bunch!

I would love to bring this old girl to the BBQ but it involves border crossing (not a problem with a passport) and a three, four, or possibly five day drive depending on weather and lack of problems.

It doesn’t have a tailgate but does have the next best thing…..a big butt trunk.

Nice bid'ness coupe! I saw an exact one like that years ago here in California - '52 or '53. It had a V-8 too, not sure if it was a hemi or poly.
