Probey53
Was wondering if anyone has put a stant 6 dodge engine in a 1953 dodge pickup or around the year ?
SteveR
I have not but The NSRA brought the Street Rod Nationals to St. Paul State Fair Grounds back in the 80s I did see one in a 40s Dodge car there and it looked great.
greg g
Slant 6 is a long engine. I would do some serious measuring before proceeding. The /6 forum might be a good spot to do some lo9king for similar swaps. Also the Inliners website might also provide insight.
Plymouthy Adams
while the /6 was a formidable engine, it is not without issues due to length. Secondly, you still dating your upgrade with an engine out of productions for 3+ decades. For the time trouble and cost, would not consider it these days, but then that is my opinion only. Got to look at OTC if you on the road. Tows and awaiting parts at a hotel can add up.
P15-D24
Some of the factory export Power Wagons used the /6 so it can be done. But I have to agree with PA, why? I had a Dart with the 225 and it was decent, performance so-so with the auto 3 speed and mileage not much better than the flathead. If you going to do all the work a 318 V8 seems like a better choice.
SteveR
I had a 65 Barracuda with a stock Slant 6. I used to get 27-29mpg with a 3-speed auto. I wonder what will happen with the engine's weight on the right wheel. It always seemed to have more weight there and the suspension was torsion bars compared to leaf springs. My car would go around L.H. corners flatter than R.H. My question is, Why a Slant 6 and not as P-15 said a 318?
Merle Coggins
There was a guy on the forums here many years ago that has a Pilot-House truck with a slant 6. He was in northern IL, so I went down to meet him and check out his truck. It was well done. He didn't have any info on the swap as he bought it that way. It didn't look out of place in the engine compartment. I don't recall if the firewall was notched to allow for the extra length.
QEC
If you really want to keep a 6 then I would look at the 4.0 Jeep. Very reliable, certainly durable and, plenty of them in the bone yards, many with the AX15 5-speed.
