Frank Gooz Posted June 20, 2022 Report Posted June 20, 2022 When i take off the line from the gas tank Shouldn't gas be coming out sort of fast? I think there is a wire mess strainer in the tank, correct? it does not look like it is in the fitting. Can this be replaced? The tank looks great inside from the sending unit access. I think my fuel should be dripping very fast almost a steady steam, free flowing? What has everyone else seen? Frank Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 20, 2022 Report Posted June 20, 2022 if original, the filter is a sintered bronze....(oilite) if you suspect major clog here, many report they were able to knock this off the outlet pipe with a flexible cable and place an inline external of the tank for filtration. Quote
Frank Gooz Posted June 21, 2022 Author Report Posted June 21, 2022 I will take another look and may do the same. This trouble would put a kink in my dual carb plans. Thank you Quote

Thank you Will have nothing to do with a dual carb setup .... either you have a clean fuel source or you create one .... the gas tank does not care how many carbs it is feeding. Quote
Sniper Posted June 21, 2022 Report Posted June 21, 2022 How full is your tank? If it's below the level of the fitting nothing will come out. Quote
Frank Gooz Posted June 21, 2022 Author Report Posted June 21, 2022 I am working on the root of why i only get a dribble of gas before trying to feed two carburetors. The gauge read around 3/4 full. I look at the tank from my 48 Desoto and it looks like it HAD a screen? I will check this tank. (1950 Dodge Coronet) Quote
Sniper Posted June 21, 2022 Report Posted June 21, 2022 While you are verifying the screen compare the fuel level to what the gauge reads. Quote
Tired iron Posted June 22, 2022 Report Posted June 22, 2022 My oilite brass filter in the tank was plugged as well. To fix, I unsoldered the small rectangular patch where the outlet tube enters the tank. Then removed the filter and resoldered the patch back on. And run an external filter. Quote
Frank Gooz Posted June 22, 2022 Author Report Posted June 22, 2022 Tired iron, I thank you for your in put this sounds like a very straight forward fix and not be a problem an longer. Quote
MarcDeSoto Posted June 24, 2022 Report Posted June 24, 2022 My radiator shop cut a 5"X5" square off the top of the gas tank so they could look at the internal Oilite filter. The original bronze filter was rusted away and definitely no good anymore. So they removed it. Quote
