Guest spartain@verizon.net Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 I have a 38 chrysler roya 2dr sedan the guy I bought it from says it is the only one left in the US. He also told me that they were sent to Germany in 38 but when they got there they didn't want them because they were two doors. and that this is the only serviver. How can I find out if any of this is true? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Hi and welcome. Perhaps someone who participates in the Post War Heavy Metal forum might have some info on this. They specialize in 46-48 models, but surely some of them know about others. Here's a link: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/46-48Chryslers/ Also the WPC (walter p chrysler club). http://www.chryslerclub.org/links.htm Quote
claybill Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 that sounds unbelievable.....so it probably is. but you can get in touch with chrysler inc. or some gurus from the chrysler club to really find out. look in hemmings for some club addresses.. its always fun! bill Quote
builtfercomfort Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 From the ply33.com site: Build Cards Build card thumbnail DaimlerChrylser has kept on file the “build cards” for most of automobiles Chrysler Corporation built in the US from 1930 through 1967. These are available from: Walter P. Chrysler Museum One Chrysler Drive CIMS 488-00-00 Auburn Hills, Michigan 48326-2778 Attn: Historical Collection historicalinformation@chryslerheritage.com http://www.chryslerheritage.com As of August 2002, the fee was $45.00. Decoding is not available for trucks and therefore the cost for trucks is only $25. Build records are only available for US built cars from 1930 to 1967 and trucks from 1930 to 1954. No Jeep or AMC cards are currently available. They will, of course, need your car's serial number. For most of the 1930s, the serial number is found on the front passenger door post. The engine number (on the block above/behind the generator) and the body number (on the firewall) are all different from the serial number. The build card shows what the original engine number and body number were. Quote
Normspeed Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Post a photo if you can. Sounds interesting. Quote

claybill Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 anybody would know...a 2 door staff car is about as good as a 2 door taxi..! get some records, . the story however is interesting and must have some fact or history in it.....someplace.. bill Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 staff car stories get around a lot...when I bought my first Town Sedan, 1941 Dodge D19..owner rumored it to be built specifically for the military due to the non-suicide doors...then the 1925 Fiat GT I had, I personally referred to that as Mousilini's staff car as it was Italian made and came straight from north Africa (Ethiopia) making it highly plausable...genuine war relic... rearview Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 That car is mighty close to ideal in my little world... I like the look/style a whole lot. Nice find no matter what. You could roll that back up on the trailer and head it over towards me. Christmas is coming you know... Bob Quote
Guest spartain@verizon.net Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 Does anyone have or know anyone who has a 1938 Chrysler royal 2dr sedan? Quote
TodFitch Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 Heres a picture of my 38chrysler Nice looking car. According to the Standard Catalog of American Cars the Royal is a C-18. The body style naming convention in the table for that series looks a bit different than I am used to, but if I have the correct body style name ("2-dr. Tr. Brgm.-5P") then 3802 of them were built, that is about 1/10th of the number of C-18 four door touring sedans built. So it probably is fairly rare. But not as rare as the fast back version of the two door which only had 88 built. Quote
greg g Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 I know of a 40 royal 2dr sedan, locally. Quote
RobertKB Posted November 16, 2007 Report Posted November 16, 2007 I don't own a 2 door '38 Chrysler but do own a 4 door one same colour as yours - black. They are great cars and a little more unusual than a Plymouth or Dodge. I have met people with a coupe, convertible, and other four doors but have not seen a '38 two door sedan except on the internet. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 Your car is outstanding! I think that story of the 2dr sedan being sent back is true, 1938 the Germans were gearing up. If they did not want something they would send it back in a heart beat. Quote
HughForrest Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 I'm a 38 Chrysler guy too. They also said mine was rare. Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 I'm a 38 Chrysler guy too. They also said mine was rare] Hugh; Good to hear from you. It has been a while. Read your HAMB posts on occasion. Hope thing are going well for you and your fleet of old Mopars. The dual point conversion kit you sent me is doing well. I have about ten thousand miles on it now. HughForrest Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 Hi Don- I've been looking in on the forum occasionally, but my life got awful busy for quite a while. That photo of the Chrysler is pretty old: I actually got to drive it some this summer. Right now it is back in dry dock while I pull out the P.O.'s hacked up dashboard and put in a proper 1938 one. I'll be trying out the temp gauge fix (new line and bulb with old gauge) shortly, and will be shopping for a single-wire fuel gauge sender if anyone has an extra. Cheers, Hugh Quote
Reg Evans Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 WOW !!! Love dat 38 vert. too ! Quote
