randy riley Posted September 1, 2021 Report Posted September 1, 2021 I have a 51 3/4 ton that I have had for almost 50 years. It had a fresh light blue paint job when I bought it that is now due for a refresh. Interior is a dark blue and appears original. was the exterior the same? the truck came out with a flat bed but has a pickup box now. I have seen some with a black box, is that correct? Quote

My dad's 53 had a red cab & black box. My Grandpa's 51 was the same. Seems that red has been a Dodge color a long time before the Ram came out. Quote
Los_Control Posted September 2, 2021 Report Posted September 2, 2021 I would imagine the cabs were painted a single color. Meaning firewall, door jambs interior etc ... most likely the original color. Same time anyone with a spray can could have painted the interior to freshen it up. Most likely they would not paint the firewall. And yes it was common to paint the beds black and the rest a color of choice. I also believe if you ordered your truck, you could choose your color and also if you wanted the bed black or same color as cab. Sooo, black is correct, but same color as truck is also correct. Quote
Dave72dt Posted September 2, 2021 Report Posted September 2, 2021 The black box was standard. Having the box painted the same as the cab color was optional and cost extra. Quote

Since my truck was originally black I've always wondered if the original buyer of my 51 B3B had to pay extra to have the bed painted the same color as the cab ? 2 Quote
ggdad1951 Posted September 2, 2021 Report Posted September 2, 2021 Cab would be all one color interior and exterior. Beds were black unless you paid the $5 to make it the same color as the cab. Quote
