keithb7 Posted May 18, 2021 Report Posted May 18, 2021 Thought you folks might really enjoy this one. I keep my mouth shut and let the car say it all. 11 Quote
knuckleharley Posted May 18, 2021 Report Posted May 18, 2021 The first car I ever bought that was complete that I was able to get running was a 38 Chyrsler Royal 4dr. Paid 40 bucks for it,and once a cousin helping me/showing me what to do got the engine free,it ran so smooth you could watch the fan turn and not hear the engine. Had a little surface rust, but no dents, the interior was perfect, and the radio even played. I was 14 years old,and the plan was to work summer jobs to have enough money to get it on the road when I turned 16,so I would have a car to drive. Since at that time I lived about 7 miles from the closest telephone and 26 miles from the nearest movie and there was no public transportation at all in the county, having wheels was a VERY big deal for a teen boy wanting to get up with girls. The closest female to me that was under 40 and not related lived about 10 miles away, and there was no way in HELL she was going to waste her time with a boy that didn't even have a car to drive. And NO,he would not let me drive his car. Hitchiked to Virginia to visit friends one weekend, and that was the weekend the Ash Wednesday Storm hit the Outer Banks of NC,and a LOT of scrap lumber washed up on the beach. So my father cut the body of the Chrysler off right behind the windshield, but a wooden frame over the chassis, and used it to haul wood off the beach. I was told "MY yard,MY car, shut up!" I do believe that was the first time I ever told him off and threatened to kick his ass if he EVER tried something like that again. I was stuck that far from civilization, and he wouldn't even drive me to a movie or a school dance. Told me I was on my own and had to arrange my own transportation. Which is why I bought the Chrysler in the first place. So I usually hitchhiked in the summer, and slept on beach that night and hitch-hiked home the next morning. As you can imagine,I didn't have much luck with what few girls were available. IIRC,the county high school on had around 250 students for grades 8 to 12. 5 Quote

keithb7 Posted May 18, 2021 Author Report Posted May 18, 2021 (edited) There is some camera magic going on. All Speeds were not as high as they appear in the video. I mostly took my time to avoid kicking up many rocks, preventing any gravel damage. I made a couple quick passes for effect. There was not a ton of loose rocks on my entire trip as the road was quite packed down. The road has not seen a grader for quite some time. My car will mainly live on the pavement. Once in a while it is nice to get out and drive an old car on a quiet country road. Edited May 18, 2021 by keithb7 1 Quote
Booger Posted May 18, 2021 Report Posted May 18, 2021 I see you had the air conditioning on.. look at that dashboard! You sir are one happy camper. How much is gas a liter? Do you put corn gas in that thing? Quote

The gas I run is Chevron Supreme plus 94 octane, non ethanol. The price for that gas here works out to $1.28/L US funds. Or $4.84 US funds per US gallon. 1 Quote
