Frank Gooz Posted December 7, 2020 Report Posted December 7, 2020 To replace the hard oil line can we use 3/16 Brake line? Quote

That's what I did when the spin-on bypass filter was installed. You can also see the flex hose for the oil pressure gauge. Edited December 7, 2020 by Sam Buchanan Quote
Los_Control Posted December 7, 2020 Report Posted December 7, 2020 Not sure what size factory did for oil gauge lines ... 3/16 sound reasonable. Where it goes through the firewall to gauge, they did use a flexible rubber line to prevent motion & leaks. Other then that, was just standard size lines for basic oil gauge. Quote

You can,but it's best to use hydraulic hose. Hydraulic hoses flex, and they never crack. Most any big truck or tractor garage can make one up on the spot to fit your needs. Quote
Tooljunkie Posted December 7, 2020 Report Posted December 7, 2020 I have been considering this myself. The flex hose, in the event if it fails i think i will use a grease whip hose. Cheap, 1/8 npt will adapt to 3/16” inverted flare easily. will take the pressure and heat will be negligible. Quote
Andydodge Posted December 8, 2020 Report Posted December 8, 2020 If your oil filter is mounted on the engine then you can safely use hard lines, however ANY oil line that leaves the engine to go to an oil filter or oil gauge should have a flexible hose in the line either a rubber or stainless braided hose to absorbe the movement of the engine...............andyd 1 Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted December 8, 2020 Report Posted December 8, 2020 Properly installed steel oil filter lines as done by the factory will never fail .....block to oil filter. Hoses will and do fail no matter how good of quality and installation job. JMO.? Quote
Andydodge Posted December 9, 2020 Report Posted December 9, 2020 Excuse the crappy firewall as that was the next thing to tidy up but you can see the braided stainless oil lines I used when I installed the Beehive Oil filter on the stock 201 engine that was in the 41 Pymouth I had........a hopped up finned headed twin carbed 230 was slated to go in there but things changed & the car was sold........the oil system was the same whether a 201 or 230 was in there..............andyd Quote

It is obvious we are a bit confused about which oil lines you are asking about. If you can specify which lines and what they are connected to the group can provide more specific info. If the lines you want to replace are hard lines that are in the original standard locations you can replace them with brake line. The only flex line firewall forward in my P-15 is the short hose near the rear of the block for the oil pressure gauge. Edited December 9, 2020 by Sam Buchanan 1 Quote
Frank Gooz Posted December 10, 2020 Author Report Posted December 10, 2020 I am referring to the hard lines. I am sure the hose is there for flexibility and vibration and must stay this way. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted December 10, 2020 Report Posted December 10, 2020 3/16" steel lines are proper for the oil filter on the passenger car engine. No hose. Quote
