Engine assembly lubrication

Looks like we're getting close, looking for recommendations on what Lube to use for engine assembly?

 

Locally we have Napa, Advanced and AutoZone, and of course there's eBay and Amazon.

Hi Bill, I'll ask him but like you heard, he doesn't do assembly so I figured I would ask around here first.

 

Was nice to meet you today. Maybe one of these days we'll be together at a show, but that'll be a few years off for me I think.

There are many types out there, but I’ve always used this stuff. According to Napaonline.com my local store has it in stock.

Same stuff I've used for years.  There's other assembly lubes available but for an engine that may get installed and not started immediately after assembly, I find that the Lubriplate stays in place better than the more liquid types. I even put a swipe of it in cylinder bores before installing oil soaked pistons.  I think it helps retain that oil in the cylinders before initial startup.  By the time the initial break-in time is done, it's all melted out and you haven't scored up the cyl walls with dry starts.  That's my theory, anyway, for what it's worth.

This stuff:on bearings and cam. Used to use Lubriplate until this became available.  Engine oil on pistons/rings/cylinder walls.  And a fresh shot of oil in each spark plug hole, followed by turning it over to spread it around, just before starting.

 

And, most important in my mind, fill the oil pump with vaseline to assure it starts pumping immediately.
