rallyace Posted August 12, 2019 Report Posted August 12, 2019 I have a 51 P23 with an overdrive transmission. Has anyone flat towed or dolly towed one with the drive wheels on the ground? Can it be done without damaging the OD? If so, should the OD be engaged or disengaged? Mike Quote
John Fleming Posted August 12, 2019 Report Posted August 12, 2019 If car is to be towed a good distance remove the drive shaft. Shaft out will save movement of U joints shaft and transmission . Quote

Just undo the driveshaft at the differential and use some wire to hang that end of the driveshaft to the underside of the car. Be positive it is secure. Easy to reinstall. Quote
rallyace Posted August 13, 2019 Author Report Posted August 13, 2019 I was trying to avoid unbolting the driveshaft if possible. The trip is only 75 miles one way. Quote
rallyace Posted August 13, 2019 Author Report Posted August 13, 2019 Watkins Glen for Vintage Weekend in September. Looking into renting an RV and towing the Plymouth. I am done with camping in a tent and sleeping on the ground. Quote
tom'sB2B Posted August 13, 2019 Report Posted August 13, 2019 Unbolt the drive shaft. It's a 10 minute job and will save you the worry about damage. IMHO Quote
Reg Evans Posted August 13, 2019 Report Posted August 13, 2019 (edited) I towed this 47 P15 120 miles about 10 years ago without damaging anything. It didn't have an overdrive. Edited August 13, 2019 by Reg Evans Quote
laynrubber Posted August 13, 2019 Report Posted August 13, 2019 You wouldn’t do harm by undoing the drive shaft but it’s extra work for I don’t think a concern. The gear box is all splash lube. Quote
Sam Buchanan Posted August 13, 2019 Report Posted August 13, 2019 UHaul has a really nice trailer...... Quote
