Did the 48 Plymouth come with electric wipers as standard or as option  ?  Looking to convert mine to electric.

no, but the Dodge did and they are easy to adapt to the slightly smaller Plymouth.  The problem with the electric wipers of that era is that they are relatively slow and mostly single speed.

On my own car, I added a vacuum storage  tank  (57 Olds brake reservoir) which worked very well. We get a lot of rain where I am and lots of hills too.

I added a 48 Chrysler 2 speed set to my 47 Dodge.  Straight bolt in.  Plymouth is a smaller car though.

Isn't a 47 Dodge body the same as a P-15 body?  I was considering the Newport Engineering 12 volt, with a seperate power suppy.https://newportwipers.com/product/1946-48-dodge-and-plymouth-wiper-motor-clears-stock-radio/#wiper-motor

I take it the wiper motor from Newport is 12 volt.

No but I think the extra width is all at the outside. For instance the fresh air heater box fits from a dodge. I believe the one in my car came out of a chrysler.

6 volt electric wiper motor was standard on Australian built plymouths but the linkage is different and set up for RHD . very slow on 6 volt

And that after the splined washer on the stock electric wiper stripped for the last time I decided to install electric cable operated wipers from an English BMC of some sort, they work great and in theory you can mount the motor anywhere so long as the cable is long enough, I inverted one of the cable gearboxes so I could have "clap your hands" wipers......the car was already 12 volts, so that wasn't an issue, but I used to run a resister to drop the voltage down to 6 volts when Iran the original Oz wiper........I mounted the BMC motor between the cowl and the glove box.........works fine, haven't seen it in probably 20 yrs, I think its still there, at least the wipers still work so it must be there........lol..........andyd

I purchased and installed a Newport Engrg. unit in my P15.  It's a quality unit and their customer service is very good if you have any questions.  I'm very pleased and positively recommend it.

Start with their website, several are avail. somehow different? Call them. They have a lot of more local companies selling their stuff and they can tell you who is local.

Last I checked buying direct did not give you any deal on price- they support the sellers.

I think you'll like the Newport Engineering electric wipers. I installed them in my 48, p15 coupe this winter and they work great.
