Neat story, wish I still had my first car!

Me to. I was often given crap for my first car a 48 Plymouth Business Coupe. As far as my friends were concerned in the mid 70's it was just an old car. They were all driving their late 60's Camaros, Novas, Mustangs etc.

Now my 48 Club Coupe gets the waves and thumbs up even from the kids and it is not as nice as my first one was.

Dad still has pretty much his first car. He had a 54 ford and chevy first. I think both were before he even got his lisense. Then his 51 plymouth conv which he still has to this day. My first car ever was a 89 buick century-I wonder if I will ever actually miss that thing? Now on the other hand my first collector car was my 46 dodge pickup which I have no intention of selling. Also the first car I regularly drove to work was my dads 54 plymouth that we call the toad. I might end up with that car someday too.

Wow Ed, your dad must have a mighty big garage there,,,hope he lives in the country!!

Mighty fine story there Eric!! Guess MY first car never won a race. The families old buggy a 51 2 door coupe, light green plymouth. After a year or so of contantly having to find and change my own tires and wheels with the aid of a bumper jack and a hand pump up air tube thing,, because the front end was so out of line it squealed going straight down the highway!!,,,I found a white more door(hunting purposes dictates more doors),,,hard to road hunt with a 2 door.. This car had a broken frame and flexed like crazy on washboard roads, you could feel it inside. I drug it out of a tree grove, scraped 6" of mud and leaves off the floors,,,drug it around till it started and drove it home,,,for $25.

Then an OLDER guy had no more use for his 50 Dodge fluid drive more door(we used it primarily for hunting, night and day)(us kids amused ourselves pretty cheap back then). THAT car hooked me on the Mopars,,,toughest thing on four wheels,,,was slick with new snow on a curved drive in the park. Like MOST kids of the day was driving too fast and slid off the road and whammed a BIG tree about 3' diameter trunk. Hit REAL hard,,,thought Oh crap, just wrecked the car, could see in my MIND water running out of radiator front end crushed and wrapped around tree. Hit windsheild HARD!!Knee hit and bent the key. Got out to see the license plate bracket WAS bent before,,,total damage was license bracket NOW straight,,,not a scratch otherwise.

When we were hunting some underage newbie driver always wanted to drive,,,I prefered to 'shoot' so we were on one side of a HUGE tree grove and the car was on the other side,,guy driving says hold on I will be right over,,,I thought he meant he was going to drive around to get us. "HE" instead drove straight thru. he avoided the BIG trees and drove over a thousand 6-8-10' volunteer trees. Ever hear what a car coming thru the grove sounds like in the calm dark and dead of night?? I swear he was driving over trees that were big enough to bring one side up then the other. The fluid drive just powered thru it all.

After we got done laughing our fool heads off on that one,,, the guy driving was backing on a sand road and promptly backed right into the ditch,,,said he couldnt see where he was going!! Darn YOUNG drivers!! Other 4-5 guys got out and pushed it right out!! We had huge big knobby mud grips on the back shaped in a V and taller tires on front so it cleared MORE brush and there wasnt ANYWHERE we could NOT drive with it,,,and did regularly!! It rode like a cadilac on the highway at 30mph in the roughest of pastures,,,all night long!! MUD and snow NEVER stopped us,,,a deep ravine we fell into once did. Had a friend that still doesnt know how strong he is,,,used our jack to pick up the front as much as we could and both of us finished picking the front end up and over the edge of that ravine,,while same young driver backed it up for us!! Talk about a "sudden" stop from 40 to 0 in 1 foot space. I thought the stop killed us all,,,opened the door and rolled out and layed on the snow for a 'long' time, guy in back seat thought both of us in the front were dead for sure!! Must be AWFUL tough windsheild glass to take THAT hard of hit from the inside!! I wish I had THAT car back,,,yes I do!!!

Well there is the 6 holer at the cabin. The parts cars sit behind that 1/2 in the woods. He's got 2 car garage at home with a 2 car driveway. He and I share my grandmas 2 car garage and he has 1 more that he trades basic car maintenence on the owners car for the garage use. Dang I knew I was forgetting one from the list too.

There is a 54 international R110 too.

It was about a used car dealership that claimed to have a mile of cars if I remember correctly. It seems that Ed and his father are well on their way to this accomplishment and I can only encourage them both to continue. Todd B.

I have that movie on DVD. Kurt Russel as a used car salesman. If any of you haven't seen it I recommend it.

I see you made it home OK. You should be here in Longview, Wa this week end. We are having our local car show and should be 400 or more cars. They close the main street down for the cruise, which they are issuing 600 premits. If they come out with a article in the paper on Monday, I will send it to you.

Wow! I have not seen a six holer sence I was in the army.

Ma was in the kitchen fiddling around when she hollers out.... "Pa! You need to go out and fix the outhouse!"

Pa replies, "There ain't nuthin wrong with the outhouse."

Ma yells back, "Yes there is, now git out there and fix it."

So......Pa mosies out to the outhouse, looks around and yells back, "Ma! There ain't nuthin wrong with the outhouse! "

Ma replies, "Stick yur head in the hole!"

Pa yells back, "I ain't stickin my head in that hole!"

Ma says, "Ya have to stick yur head in the hole to see what to fix."

So with that, Pa sticks his head in the hole, looks around and yells back, "Ma! There ain't nuthin wrong with this outhouse!"

Ma hollers back, "Now take your head out of the hole!"

Pa proceeds to pull his head out of the hole, then starts yelling, "Ma! Help! My beard is stuck in the cracks in the toilet seat!"

To which Ma replies, "Hurt's, don't it ?!"

Bill and Tom are two Irishmen working at the local sawmill. One day Bill slips and his arm gets caught and severed by the big bench saw. Tom quickly puts the limb in a plastic bag and rushes it and Bill to the local hospital.

Next day, Tom goes to the hospital and asks after Bill. The nurse says, 'Oh he's out in Rehab exercising'. Tom couldn't believe it, but here's Bill out the back exercising his now reattached arm. The very next day he's back at work in the saw mill.

Couple of days go by, and then Bill slips and severs his leg on another bloody big saw thing. So Tom puts the limb in a plastic bag and rushes it and Bill off to hospital.

Next day he calls in to see him and asks the nurse how he is.

The nurse replies, 'He's out in the Rehab again exercising. And sure enough, here's Bill out there doing some serious work on the treadmill.

And Bill comes back to work.

But, as usual, within a couple of days he has another accident and severs his head. Wearily Tom puts the head in a plastic bag and transports it and Bill to hospital.

Next day he goes in and asks the nurse how Bill is. The nurse breaks down and cries and says, 'He's dead.'

Tom is shocked, but not surprised. 'I suppose the saw finally did him in.'

'No,' says the nurse, 'Some dopey bastard put his head in a plastic bag and he suffocated.'

Yes....very neat story. I wish I still had my first car too. All I have now is a photo of it and lots of fond memories. Some of which were made in the back seat.;)

Reg, what is the car? My first car was 1951 Studebaker Champ. Best memories were in the front seat with one door open. The car was very narrow. It did have the deep compartments in the back under the elbow rests. I had the car for over a month when I found them. Even had built in drain holes, ice, liquid refreshments and we were set. Eric

Eric, mine was a 33 Plymouth. I too had a secret compartment for refreshments. The car had a battery box lid on the back seat floor so I made a small ice chest and hung it under the lid. The coppers never did catch us. Bad Boys,Bad Boys.:D

My 48 Plymouth coupe is the damnedest chick magnet I have ever seen. I have had women in their 30's just out of their Honda Accords and similar new cars at red lights to run over and tell me how pretty it is,and ask me what it is.

Wish to hell I had known this 30 years ago.

If that is a 33 Dodge,I can fix you up if you are looking for a really solid project car. About all that is missing is the grille shell and the radiator. I even have the original engine and transmission, and the body has already been off the chassis and the chassis and brakes have been restored.

I bought this car to hot rod,but the truth is it is too nice and complete to hot rod. It should be restored.

Believe it or not, I bought my first car within the last 6 months. I've been loaned and gifted cars before, but this is the first car that is truly mine. Its a 1981 AMC Spirit which I picked up for $180.

Yeah,it is. I bought it to put a 318 and auto trans in,but after looking it over I decided it was too nice and too complete to hot rod,so I am now looking for a restorer to sell it to.

Check out this photo of the front seat. Now,consider this. This car was the rough parts car. The guy I bought it from kept the "good one". I don't know about you,but I sure never started out with a project car this "rough". It is something I suspect it would be easy to get used to,though.
