MarkAubuchon Posted January 24, 2016 Report Posted January 24, 2016 I should know but I forgot. Getting ready for Mopars to Maine in September, going to shed the 16 inch wheels with coker radials ans going to 15 original wheels. What size tires will fit on original 15 " inch rims Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 24, 2016 Report Posted January 24, 2016 (edited) this chart may help you decide the actual size and base your brand on cost and availability TIRE CHART http://www.teufert.net/speedo/tires.htm Edited January 24, 2016 by Plymouthy Adams Quote
dpollo Posted January 24, 2016 Report Posted January 24, 2016 The chart above is a good reference. Thanks, PA. I have had good luck and great tread life with the 205/75/R15 on both 5 1/2 and 4 1/2 rim widths. on my 51 convertible (which originally used 6-70 x15s on a 4 1/2 rim) I got over 30 000 miles from P205 R 75 R 15s mounted on 15x5 1/2 wheels. better by far than what I used to get with bias plys. BobT-47P15 Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Mark.....many sizes will fit on those rims.......I just put 215-75R-15 wide white radials on my skinny 55 Chrysler wire wheels. Have also had 205-15s on them in the past. Just recently took off the bias ply 6:70x15 Firestones from those wheels. I think the original tires may have been 600 x 15. With my rims, no matter what type tire I use, I have always run inner tubes just to be sure there are no leaks. Eventually, I plan to clean up the rust on my original 15" P15 rims and install a set of 16" radials removed from my 2013 Caravan. Think I will try them tubeless just for fun. Don't know if this info helps anything or not.....just putting it out there -- in case. Quote
greg g Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 (edited) If you are going with modern radial sizes assuming 75 % aspect ratio, 205 isn't tall enough gives too much speedo / odo error. 215.s are also a bit short (about 5 % error) 225 are about equal to 600/670 15's in diameter but are much wider in section. I run 225's , and get a bit of fender rub on hard cornering but I usually have a lot bit of stuff in the trunk. Your car rides about an inch or so higher than mine so it may not be an issue on your application. Edited January 25, 2016 by greg g Quote

MarkAubuchon Posted January 26, 2016 Author Report Posted January 26, 2016 Mopars to Maine, I'm planning another cross country run. St. Louis to Belfast Maine for the fall Walter P Chrysler show in September. Most likely will go thru New York State, thru western MA. I know several other members are planning on attending. Quote
greg g Posted January 27, 2016 Report Posted January 27, 2016 Mopars to Maine? The WPC club national meet is in Belfast in early September. We hope to have a good group of forum folks going. Check out their website for dates and details. Would be great if you could join in. Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted January 31, 2016 Report Posted January 31, 2016 Excellent, that's only three hours down the road (a drop in the bucket compared to what you'uns would be driving). It's on my calendar. Barring intervention from work, we'll plan on being there! Quote
pflaming Posted January 31, 2016 Report Posted January 31, 2016 Been pondering our annual Maine vacation with our kids in Bath, Maine. Usually go in June/July maybe time to see the fall colors this year, Belfast only 90 minute drive. TKS for the information Quote
greg g Posted January 31, 2016 Report Posted January 31, 2016 Perhaps Mr. Duggan might have a couple of rental vehicles from his stable in Mass available for folks who can't drive their own cars that distance. His area also makes a good rally point for folks to meet up at. Quote
dale Posted January 31, 2016 Report Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) I went with the original 15 inch 1948 Plymouth rims and bought 670-15 radial 2 3/4 whitewalls Coker from Summit racing.. They had the original looking treads and looked like bias type.. VERY satisfied. Just got the Plymouth dog dish hub caps from Bernbaums. They are not right for the 46 thru 48 models but are the 41-42 type.. Red ship with slanted Plymouth letters. Look great on the reddish maroon wheel paint and chrome beauty rims. traveller816 Posted February 28, 2016 Report Posted February 28, 2016 Can anyone help me with tyre conversion chart to does anyone know of the equivalent of the 6.50 X 16 tyres? I've come across the tyre chart in previous searches but have yet to find a chart that includes 16 tyres. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 28, 2016 Report Posted February 28, 2016 you may have to two step this..covert first from bias of the era to modern 15..the do a direct swap for height and rotational count per mile for a 16 inch tire based on the previously converted 15 modern aspect.....Bob's your uncle Quote
rb1949 Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 Traveller...... is this Coker page of any use for 16's? http://www.widewhitetires.com/coker.html Quote
