central52 Posted November 24, 2015 Report Posted November 24, 2015 Silly question, I know. But can you clean the top of a piston thru the spark plug hole? I'm replacing my plugs, and it seemed like a good idea. Ed Quote
casper50 Posted November 24, 2015 Report Posted November 24, 2015 Sparkplugs aren't directly over the piston. Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 24, 2015 Report Posted November 24, 2015 Easier to clean the top of the piston through the top of the carburetor. With the engine running at full operating temperature around 1500 RPM's introduce a few drops of water down the top of the carburetor. This will effectively steam clean the combustion chambers. 1 Quote
central52 Posted November 24, 2015 Author Report Posted November 24, 2015 OK, Thanks guys for the info. Live and learn. Will try that water in the carburator. Ed Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 24, 2015 Report Posted November 24, 2015 the water in the carb is best done not in drops but a a higher RPM and pouring the water in at the rate that it sounds like the engine is going to choke out about any second...this will blast the head and piston top/valves clean...fastest decoking process on the market and is most cost effective..on the average about 10-12 ounces will do the trick... 1 Quote
greg g Posted November 24, 2015 Report Posted November 24, 2015 Ed, is your car running well? Does it smoke, does it have spark knock (pre ignition, pinging) Can you drive it where you want to go and then return to home when you want to? It seems that you are looking for solutions to problems that don't exist. If you want/need to tinker with the car, give it a grease job, lubricate the door hinges, rotate the windshield wipers, clean the glass or something. Detail the floormats, put winter air in the tires, snug up the hose clamps, etc. 3 Quote
Niel Hoback Posted November 24, 2015 Report Posted November 24, 2015 Geez, Greg, you just kept me busy for the rest of the week! Lighten up, eh? 1 Quote
austinsailor Posted November 24, 2015 Report Posted November 24, 2015 Do it like they did it in the 20's and 30's. Blow pure oxygen in the cylinder, light. Must have been exciting! Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted November 25, 2015 Report Posted November 25, 2015 I worry about idle hands.... In my line of work, "idle hands are the Devil's playthings". And I'm not talking about the bad guys. Inactivity leads to boredom, boredom leads to thinking of things to do, not coming up with anything leads to inventing problems, or rather solutions to problems - usually that don't exist. Viola - analogy complete on all fronts, not just work. Now...if I could just find something to fiddle with out in the garage... Quote
dodgeguy Posted November 25, 2015 Report Posted November 25, 2015 you guys are ruthless s.i.c. ? towards this ed guy I feel sorry for him! Quote

greg g Posted November 25, 2015 Report Posted November 25, 2015 I hope Ed is taking it in the manner in which it is offered. Tongue in cheek with a nudge and wink. 1 Quote
central52 Posted November 25, 2015 Author Report Posted November 25, 2015 Greg is right. Car runs well, no smoking, pinging, etc. But I always seem to want to tweak things to make it better. I guess the old adage is true, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Ed Quote
