Don Jordan Posted October 15, 2015 Report Posted October 15, 2015 I've been looking on line for trim rings. I never realized there were so many places that sod them. The problem is I'm scared that what they call 15" isn't going to fit my wheel. Is there another measurement that I need to be aware of? Some places say something about 1 3/4" but I'm not sure what that refers to. I've seen prices from $39 to $69 for either stainless or chrome. I just don't want to get stuck with something that doesn't fit. thanks Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 15, 2015 Report Posted October 15, 2015 some of the other dimensions say like the 1 3/4 is usually the depth of the trim ring... Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 15, 2015 Report Posted October 15, 2015 Don, you want a trim ring the same size as your wheel............if your rims are 15 inch, then you want a 15 inch trim ring. After that........it gets down to style. There are some a bit wider, some thinner. Some with a groove or two, and some with a smooth surface. If you prefer those big wide ones that go under the hubcap to make it appear you have a full wheel cover, you have to make sure to get a set described as specifically fitting your model car / wheel. There are some like these............plus many others............. I have some like this........ These are the big ones that cover the wheel......... Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 15, 2015 Report Posted October 15, 2015 Many of the hot rod parts dealers have some new trim rings they sell. The above pictures all came from eBay. Quote
Don Jordan Posted October 16, 2015 Author Report Posted October 16, 2015 Thanks for the leads - I'm going to order tomorrow. I'm sure they will make the car go faster Quote
Robin (UK) Posted October 16, 2015 Report Posted October 16, 2015 (edited) Hi Don, Here's an original promo picture and a great photo from 'back in the day', both showing smooth beauty rings. The ones I have on my Plymouth are similar so I've attached positive proof that they made my car go faster!!! They are widely available for 15" or 16" wheels, so worth shopping around for the best price. Here are some currently listed on eBay... http://www.ebay.com/itm/15-Smooth-Chrome-Stainless-SS-Hot-Rod-Style-Trim-Beauty-Wheel-Rings-Vintage-/121786773433?hash=item1c5b0eafb9:g:1PYAAMXQyY1TTVv-&vxp=mtr or with ribs... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Stainless-Steel-Wheel-Rings-Beauty-Rings-New-15-/360308160119 Edited October 16, 2015 by Robin (UK) Quote
Desotodav Posted October 16, 2015 Report Posted October 16, 2015 (edited) I went with stainless steel 'ribbed' trim rings on my blue truck. I looked at adding a silver triple pin-stripe, but I think that the trim rings just gave it that sharper look. I guess that it all depends on what look you are wanting to achieve. Don Jordan Posted October 17, 2015 Author Report Posted October 17, 2015 Great pix - thanks. Robin you are right. I can see they make the car go faster. The rings should be here Monday and then I will show off. I truly to enjoy this forum - it's all warm and fuzzy. 1 Quote
deathbound Posted October 17, 2015 Report Posted October 17, 2015 Thanks for the leads - I'm going to order tomorrow. I'm sure they will make the car go faster If you drill "speed holes" in them, it will go REALLY fast. I went with stainless steel 'ribbed' trim rings on my blue truck. And those bias ply tires make all the difference in the world, perfect look. Quote
46Ply Posted October 17, 2015 Report Posted October 17, 2015 Here's one with the pinstriping just for comparison. 1 Quote
Don Jordan Posted October 31, 2015 Author Report Posted October 31, 2015 This has been sort of a merry go round ride. I had no idea such a simple task could turn out so wrong. I bought some rings on line, got them and they were beautiful (pix 1). They were too deep 1 3/4". Sent them back - they didn't have anything smaller. Searched around and found a set 1 1/2" - too deep by 1/4" - they just almost fit (pix 2). I don't know where to go to find the rings 1 1/4". This is getting silly. and I've already scratched up my power coated rims. I guess I'll keep looking. Quote
ptwothree Posted November 1, 2015 Report Posted November 1, 2015 Something like this? Mine look like these...I'm talking depth, not dents. Or try the Vet's Stadium swap meet on Nov. 8th or Pomona on Dec.6th. Quote
Don Jordan Posted November 1, 2015 Author Report Posted November 1, 2015 I worry because they don't tell what the depth is. I found a place that says they have 1 1/4". I'll call Monday. thanks for the info - it's what I'm looking for Quote
deathbound Posted November 1, 2015 Report Posted November 1, 2015 Don't you already have a thread on beauty rings? Why not just add to that thread? 1 Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted November 1, 2015 Report Posted November 1, 2015 If the beauty rims make the car go faster...then one can only assume the scratches in the powder coat will cause disturbance in the air and tend to slow the car down....it is too bad that the detail about depth was overlooked when ordering and prior to trying to install the wrong rings...powder coating is costly. RobertKB Posted November 1, 2015 Report Posted November 1, 2015 I had beauty rings on my car for years but I found them kind of noisy as they tended to work a bit in the wheels. When I repainted the car about 4 years ago, I also repainted the rims and had them pinstriped as well. I was not prepared to put beauty rings back on and mark up the paint so I sold them on ebay as they were a decent vintage set and not badly beaten up. Pictures show the car with beauty rings and without. With decent pinstriping, I prefer the car without but it's all a matter of personal choice. 1 Quote
Don Jordan Posted November 8, 2015 Author Report Posted November 8, 2015 the picture without the rings is very attractive with the WWW but I don't have that. I'm looking for rings with a depth of 1". So far no luck. Quote

blucarsdn Posted November 8, 2015 Report Posted November 8, 2015 The common beauty trim eim will be stainless steel, 15" or 16" and approximately 1-1/8" ro 1-1/4" wide. Wider rings in the 1-3/8" range are for the wider 6.5"- 7" wheels that are more commom on the larger cars, Buick, Cad, etc. Of course one mist keep in mind that we are talking about trim rings for vintage cars, like prior to the '60's In 1941 Ford came out with a stainless trim ring that has five ribs, this type of trim ring is very commom on street rods, and is available from many vendors in the 1-1/8" width and wider. I have 15 x 7 inch wheels on my '39, I have the standard 15" stainless trim ring because I wanted the stock look with the '39 hub caps. If you look close you can see a 1/4" gap between the ring edge and the wheel. If I ever find a set of Buick trim rings which are 1-3/8", (I have two) I'll buy them for my Plymouth. Bill. Quote
