John-T-53 Posted August 20, 2015 Report Posted August 20, 2015 Hey, anybody recall the thread that had some pics of a grey airport tug in it? I thought I had it in my subscription list, but I don't see my thread subscription list anymore, and the "Content I follow" is blank. And an exhaustive search just now turned up "null"... I had a recent encounter with a tug in Tahoe and would like to post pics, preferably in that appropriate thread (and delete this one). Thanks, JT Quote
MBF Posted August 20, 2015 Report Posted August 20, 2015 I don't recall the thread, but I've seen several of these vehicles and we had several at work years ago. They all appeared to be WWII or Korean era surplus. Rugged heavy vehicles. Quote

HanksB3B Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 A resourcefull guy for sure..so we are talking about boats? Pretty Grey Marine had Mopar Flatheads weren't they used in those beautiful Chris Craft speedboat hulls back in the day ? Hank Quote
Phntm48 Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 Also Horace Dodge jr became obsessed with boats and started manufacturing them in the 20's into the late 30's. Under the name Dodge Boat Works. Some really beautiful Mahogany there. Quote
austinsailor Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 I suspect this is an airport tug he's talking about. But you guys knew that! :<) I had a Chris Craft with a 6 cylinder Gray Marine years ago. Fun boat. Hope to never have another. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 A friend bought one years ago from McChord AFB at the surplus auction. It was a 230 with an automatic. 1 Quote

Don Coatney Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 Most boats do nothing but take up a parking space in the third year of ownership. Quote
TrampSteer Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 (edited) I remember seeing that truck too. Not where unfortunately. Did you try searching "Go Navy"? Best I could find was this Worthington Cheif Edited August 24, 2015 by TrampSteer Quote
59bisquik Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 I dont think this is what you were looking for. Here is an airport tug with a 218. This is where my spare running engine came from. Quote

Airport Tug, that's right Maybe this was the one I was thinking about..Greg G posted a pic of the elusive Grey Tug he checked out a few years back: http://p15-d24.com/topic/15900-automatic-trans-coupled-to-flat-head/page-2?hl=airport%2Btug#entry147808 Edited August 25, 2015 by John-T-53 1 Quote
John-T-53 Posted August 26, 2015 Author Report Posted August 26, 2015 (edited) Ok well let's make this the official (airport) tug thread then. Here are pics of an old Clark Tug used by Sierra Boat Company in Tahoe for towing boat trailers around. They were very surprised with my inquiry to check out the tug, while they had a bunch of fully restored Chris Crafts, Gar Woods, and other wood boats parked and docked all over the place. And here's a dude only interested in an old beat up tug. lol... Edited August 26, 2015 by John-T-53 Quote
John-T-53 Posted August 26, 2015 Author Report Posted August 26, 2015 Check out the full-flow oil filter mod they did on the block. Also of interest is the radiator - it looks like an old style tube and fin core...? The other tug parked next to this one was powered by a straight six ford. An OHV motor, though...otherwise I might have taken pics 1 Quote
Darkrider Posted September 16, 2015 Report Posted September 16, 2015 kinda wonder what alternator is in that Tug looks like its got a fairly simple way of mounting it vs using an adapter mount. Quote

Darkrider Posted September 17, 2015 Report Posted September 17, 2015 Here is how I did it. Cant tell for sure but it looks a lot like the Alt thats in the '84 chevy i just picked up so im assuming its an older GM 3 wire alt. Quote
John-T-53 Posted September 18, 2015 Author Report Posted September 18, 2015 (edited) kinda wonder what alternator is in that Tug looks like its got a fairly simple way of mounting it vs using an adapter mount. It looks like they just used the genny brackets and used a pipe sleeve as a spacer. Don's setup looks a little more customized as it appears he had to get the alternator farther out from the block. This little flathead looks good in "Hank Blue" in combo with the yellow body ! Edited September 19, 2015 by John-T-53 Quote
