Hey, anybody recall the thread that had some pics of a grey airport tug in it? I thought I had it in my subscription list, but I don't see my thread subscription list anymore, and the "Content I follow" is blank.

And an exhaustive search just now turned up "null"...

I had a recent encounter with a tug in Tahoe and would like to post pics, preferably in that appropriate thread (and delete this one).

Thanks,

JT

I don't recall the thread, but I've seen several of these vehicles and we had several at work years ago.  They all appeared to be WWII or Korean era surplus. Rugged heavy vehicles.

A resourcefull guy for sure..so we are talking about boats? Pretty Grey Marine had Mopar Flatheads weren't they used in those beautiful Chris Craft speedboat hulls back in the day ?

Also Horace Dodge jr became obsessed with boats and started manufacturing them in the 20's into the late 30's. Under the name Dodge Boat Works. Some really beautiful Mahogany there.

A friend bought one years ago from McChord AFB at the surplus auction. It was a 230 with an automatic.

I suspect this is an airport tug he's talking about. But you guys knew that! :<)

I had a Chris Craft with a 6 cylinder Gray Marine years ago. Fun boat. Hope to never have another.

A boat is a hole in the water you throw money into......

I remember seeing that truck too. Not where unfortunately. Did you try searching "Go Navy"?

Best I could find was this Worthington Cheif

I dont think this is what you were looking for. Here is an airport tug with a 218. This is where my spare running engine came from.

Ok well let's make this the official (airport) tug thread then.

Here are pics of an old Clark Tug used by Sierra Boat Company in Tahoe for towing boat trailers around. They were very surprised with my inquiry to check out the tug, while they had a bunch of fully restored Chris Crafts, Gar Woods, and other wood boats parked and docked all over the place. And here's a dude only interested in an old beat up tug. lol...

Check out the full-flow oil filter mod they did on the block. Also of interest is the radiator - it looks like an old style tube and fin core...?

The other tug parked next to this one was powered by a straight six ford. An OHV motor, though...otherwise I might have taken pics

kinda wonder what alternator is in that Tug looks like its got a fairly simple way of mounting it vs using an adapter mount.

Here is how I did it.

Cant tell for sure but it looks a lot like the Alt thats in the '84 chevy i just picked up so im assuming its an older GM 3 wire alt.

It looks like they just used the genny brackets and used a pipe sleeve as a spacer. Don's setup looks a little more customized as it appears he had to get the alternator farther out from the block.

This little flathead looks good in "Hank Blue" in combo with the yellow body B) !
