BobT-47P15 Posted August 17, 2015 Report Posted August 17, 2015 But, I thought I would post a pic or two anyway. Apparently the owner drives this lovely wherever he wants to go, and told me he is always looking to buy more of them. 1 Quote
DonaldSmith Posted August 17, 2015 Report Posted August 17, 2015 Checker, made in Kalamazoo, mostly for the taxi industry, but they sold some to private buyers. The standard body was a sedan with a full rear seat and two jump seats, like a limo. And they made multi-door airport buses, etc. They also made a station wagon version. Quote
Ulu Posted August 17, 2015 Report Posted August 17, 2015 I've been in quite a few Checkers, but never wanted to own one. But now, what with Uber, it might be fun. Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 17, 2015 Report Posted August 17, 2015 Looks like a fare ride. Geez this incredible pun went over everyone's head. Quote
Ulu Posted August 17, 2015 Report Posted August 17, 2015 Then why did it make me think of My Fare Lady? Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 17, 2015 Report Posted August 17, 2015 Then why did it make me think of My Fare Lady? Dreamer, be practical. Quote
Ulu Posted August 17, 2015 Report Posted August 17, 2015 Having a woman pay you to drive her around? Yes, I'm dreaming.... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 17, 2015 Report Posted August 17, 2015 not all the Checkers were GM powered...only the later ones..... Quote
JerseyHarold Posted August 17, 2015 Report Posted August 17, 2015 They had Continental engines in the fifties. Quote
Ulu Posted August 18, 2015 Report Posted August 18, 2015 Continental Flatties? I've never seen under the hood of a flathead Checker. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted August 18, 2015 Report Posted August 18, 2015 I'm not sure, but I think there was a diesel option also. Quote
Dave72dt Posted August 18, 2015 Report Posted August 18, 2015 Geez this incredible pun went over everyone's head. I got it. Just didn't feel the need to respond to it. 1 Quote
DonaldSmith Posted August 18, 2015 Report Posted August 18, 2015 Don, we were just ignoring your pun. It was a conspiracy of silence, like a practical joke in the dugout, where the rookie hits a grand slam and the teammates ignore him when he gets back off the field. Although I wouldn't call your pun a grand slam. I would give it a 6 point 7. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 18, 2015 Report Posted August 18, 2015 (edited) Don caught the fare right off.....just giving the other guys a chance to shine...if you had left the meter running you would have quite the sum of money.....won't happen again... BobT-47P15 Posted August 20, 2015 Author Report Posted August 20, 2015 A fellow I know who owns a former filling station, now just a repair shop, has an older Checker with four doors on the right side sitting in front of his place. Don't know what year it is. Quote
