Jeff, since you hijacked my thread, lol, I'm looking for one labeled "afterburner"!!!

Paul......you should be looking for one marked Halon!!!

Jeff

Actually I think the Air, Defrost and Heat knobs are hardest to find.

actually to be true to Pauls built, the patina over the years would have rendered the knob unreadable..

CHOKE...those ALWAYS got used and damaged over the years.  I've found plenty of the others over the years, but the CHOKE was either missing or replaced with something else (FEF had a Chebby knob stuck on!)  HEAD, PANEL and THROTTLE generally are in trucks I pick, Sometimes even DEFROST, HEAT and AIR as well, ASH are hard to find because they were an optional accessory so not in all the trucks.  That's why I say CHOKE for the "standard" knobs.

I am inclined to agree with you.Mark.....a near mint condition or NOS choke knob is probably the Holy Grail of all these knobs

There may be some out there? but I have never seen one.

well, don't look to close at mine then!  :D

PP has the answer...slightly melt your knobs in a shop fire, clean and prep a bit and clear coat to preserve that worn/used/abused look and patina finish...put sport team logos everywhere to draw the observers eye from the dash mayhem

I think we may visit the Caterpiller plant in Peoria, IL. Maybe they have some that say 'cat' on them?  My ASH knob went to Australia, my choke knob is indented. Maybe I can pull that out, haven't tried yet.

Sprayed gloss back the letters show so for now will stay with that.  Working on the steering wheel cracks today.

You might be able to fill the steering wheel cracks with cat gut.

actually along those lines Don in an earlier conversation with PP I mentioned that I had used boiled cat hide as a good suitable steering wheel wrap...

 Don't worry of the many things I am....a thief isn't one of them. Besides mine is worn but legible. And I did manage to snag a NOS Panel switch and knob so it is all good. There is still a few "goodies" out there if one is patient. One of these days I will have to post some photos of the "as new".Carter carb I got. Boy is it nice to finally have correct one.....without any wear. Makes a world of difference to how well the truck runs. This engine is not nearly as cold blooded (as it always has been) since swapping this out..

When I was in high school my buddies snapped Miller Lite Shorty bottle caps over all my dash knobs.  They remained on there until my son started the very long journey of restoring it.
